So sorry to hear that. It sounds like they’re doing the right thing, so hopefully it will be all above board. While the SLK was in for its successful MoT, I dropped (and you’ll see why the term is appropriate) the B Class off to have its wheels refurbished. Just had a phone call to tell me that it slipped off a stand and cracked the gearbox casing. They are most apologetic (I feel for the guy having to make the call) and are going to have a reconditioned box fitted. I hope I can trust the car again after this but don’t want his insurance to write it off. It’s just been MoT’ed and had four Continentals fitted.
Happened to me with a 2.0 ford Granada , changing the torque converter oil seal , gearbox fell off the stands . Game over . £500 for a recon box for a £10 oil seal. Not easy if you have a kite .New Airmatic compressor fitted to the E55 this afternoon, all seems fine and just need to return the old one. Took longer to get the trays and liners off and on, than it did to swap compressors..
Never heard of the pistons coming right out of the caliper during use on any car.....that would be a major design fault. Have you every removed a caliper piston?....surprisingly long. Of course you can not tell how worn your discs are from a photo like that as they don't wear right on the edges and leave a lip the same width as when they were new even when completely worn out.Did my front discs and pads this morning, just thought I'd share one reason why brembo has minimum thickness guides for the 4 pot calipers . It may well be the case for all cars tbh. But this is possibly the 2nd or 3rd set of pads fitted , before I bought the glc. But just imagine how far those pistons will be out when these pads get to the wear sensor. Rule of thumb is if the discs are around the min thickness point , do not fit another set of pads . Looking at those discs I'd imagine most people would say they had loads of life left , but it's not all about that ,as I found out ,doing a bit research. New discs and pads fitted and that gap is down to about 2mm.

I have yes . I understand your point also. Fully . It's also about fluid leaking past the seal. There are many factors. For example the piston is open to rust once past the rubber bellows if it's out to far , pedal travel . Factors outlined by clever people that design brake systemsNever heard of the pistons coming right out of the caliper during use on any car. Typical Brembo piston.

They will after 2 sets of pads ,going onto a 3rd plus disc wear. Its never past the bellows....one end of the bellow is attached to the outer most end of the piston, the other sits a ridge just inside the caliper where the piston slides......So the bellow expands as the pad wears and the piston travels out. No more piston is exposed to the elements when the pads are worn than when they are new.
I understand fully , but I don't think the bellows would still be attached to the piston end if you pumped the piston out fully. Yes back on topic ,They wont....I dont think you quite understand how they work..........anyway....back on topic.
That’s often said about professional car valeters or detailers. A professional will cost you more but the quality of work and materials will be better. We all pay our money and take our choices.Have been recommended a detailer and described as having OCD. Brilliant just what you want in my eyes.
