What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

I'm in Norway with work and my A207 is at Heathrow. Hubby's X218 at home wouldn't start (dead battery). He called the RAC and confirmed dead battery. Fitted a new (ouch) one and he then got going.

Took one to the main dealer to have a part replaced which I’ve been waiting for since May. I blooming hope it fixes the issue.

I rarely have a courtesy car but needed one today as Mrs D won’t be able to ferry me back and forth today, so driving a courtesy car is a rare treat.

It’s a GLC 300 4matic AMG Line. I know that because there’s a sticker on the back of the key - good job that the modern keys are big!

It’s jolly nice. It has a great big screen in the centre and another generous screen in the cluster, both of which are nice to use.

It’s incredibly smooth and very very quiet in the move, the engine mounts must do an incredible job of filtering out vibrations.

The engine is surprisingly intrusive at at low speeds, and really stands out because of it being at odds with actually driving.

Posh car for a courtesy car these days. I must be today’s VIP customer or a small perk for waiting 6 months for an active transmission mount!
My car wasn’t completed on Friday - i don’t think they even started it - but today I received a very late-in-the-day call to say that it was ready to collect, and I made it with a few minutes to spare.

Quite sad to see the courtesy car go back. I must have done 250 miles in it. It’s not really the sort of car I’d buy myself, but I was very impressed nonetheless - it was quick at times too.

Baby D rode shotgun, and it took us 1h 50m to get back instead of 30-35 minutes like it should have. Good news is here’s no more warning light, seven months after it first illuminated!

Because I did a deep clean of my block paving on Saturday, I really didn't want to wash a month's worth of brake dust off my wheels and watch the filthy water pooling......so I took it to the local jetwash at lunchtime and cleaned them there instead.

I'll do the rest of the car this weekend. On the drive.

On one of the really cold mornings last week, temp -1-2, car started fine, then this msg in yellow came up on the dash: STOP!! Leave engine running, do not drive.! I left it for a half hour or so, switched it off, then restarted it, no warnings etc. Drove away as normal. Fast forward to the next day, car started as usual, was driving it to the VW main dealership to pick up some parts, as I turned into the carpark up comes the msg. STOP Car! Check your surroundings to make sure its safe first. Park car, but leave the engine running. As it happened, there was an AA van parked in the park at the same time, so I asked the mechanic to have a look and see what did he think about it., First, off, he had not come across it before. but after consulting his computer, the solution he came up with was a new battery was needed. So, went to my local Tyre and Battery specialist and some €300 poorer, everything is fine again. I was there during the whole changeover process, and was impressed.. before removing (or even disconnecting the old battery) he hooked up a charger / small battery to the OBD socket in the car, and only then did the changeover take place.!! Anyone have the same experience re "Stop the car, leave the engine runnnng" ?

Yep, that happened to me too during the last cold snap. I expect it to happen this weekend when I drive it.
I guess I'll need to get a new battery when I get it serviced in January...

Nothing...... again! Not driven it since I went for a curry last week. Taking it to Devon on Saturday for a night at a posh hotel then Christmas lunch on the Sunday with my South West cobra buddies. First Christmas meal of the season......... 🥳

Sounds good, whereabouts are you of to in Devon?

Ilsington manor hotel. Staying on Saturday night with friends then Christmas lunch there with more friends on Sunday before drive back home.

Gave it to my daughter, her Qashqai was a bit the worse for wear. Slightly annoyingly, she’ll get to see it turn 100,000 miles today.
Replaced with a BMW X1.

Serviced our W211 E280 and ordered all season tyres for our W164 M350 That's quite enough merc expense for now I hear a couple of Alfas calling me......

Did you get the same warning msg on the dash?? To stop the car, and leave the engine running?

Washed it yesterday. It looks amazing again. But my wife just told me she's taking it on its monthly trip to Salisbury on Friday. Back to square one soon. Sigh.

The brake dust thing, FWIW, is the result of having Style IVs. As I can see right through them and access the inner rims I feel obliged to clean that bit too - hence huge amounts of filthy black water.

I think I'm normal. I'm sure my neighbours don't. This is why I come to this forum

I just posted this in the recent purchases thread but it’s probably better here.

Just booked a service for our W164 ML (M156) and with a Cyber discount it’s bought the cost down to £211.51 for a straight A-service, no age or mileage related additional items are due. Jolly reasonable I thought.

Changed out a control arm on my 447. Pain in the ****, found it so hard to locate on the bush for the vertical bolt, I nearly stripped the knuckle off to try make it easier. Tried jacking the arm up and all
Sorts, anyway an alley key in the bush located it in the end.
One side to go! Then tracking.
See how long they last!

Thinking on, I had the full front end jacked up maybe should have just done one side so sway bar would be higher

Yes, I did.
So same warning, same solution, new battery!! Well at least it was a comparably simple event...cold weather snap, battery not up to the job, warning on dash, replace battery, and off we go again...
