What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Washed the old girl, then took her for a nice drive out down the country lanes. Got a lovely wave from another Mercedes driver in a white stretch limo, looked like a 124. Then stopped to get some fuel and got chatting to a guy at the pump, complimenting me on the old girl. Drove home on a real high 😃

Get the wine open Sarah, yes that is two glasses. I will bring the waterless wash and wax and will have you looking all mint and shiny in no time at all.
🍷 🍷

Sounds like they were checking you out 👀😘

I do love chatting to people when about cars when I’m out and about. I completely understand what you mean, it peps you u for the day.

I had that kind of day last Saturday. Chatted to a lovely gent at Starbucks on the M40, who has an Aston Martin DB9 as his main car. He street parks it in London on weekdays and drives to Birmingham and Gloucester every weekend. It’s only washed when it’s serviced.

It needs a blooming good wash and a bit of a zhuzh but I loved it’s story, it’s battle scars, and it’s colour combination so I handed him my number to keep ready for the day he decides to move it on. I love chance meetings like that.

Both children have been with us on Saturday and Sunday this week - a rare thing as they grow up - so both days we went out in the car we used as our family car when they were children. A wonderful car, bringing back wonderful memories.

I took the E500 to London and back yesterday (round trip from Nottingham ~250 miles). Annoyingly I had a bit of a wheel wobble above about 65mph with my newly fitted winter wheels - first time I'd had them up to speed, and of course I'll be visiting the tyre fitters today to get them re-balanced. But it meant I chose to use the speed limiter to stay at about 63mph - just below the point where the wobble would start - and that, plus interminable stretches of the M1 being restricted to 50mph, meant that I got the best fuel economy I'm ever likely to get from this car.

33mpg on the way there, and 32 mpg on the way back. Check my working, but I make that 65mpg :)

Are you Rachel Reeves? 🤔🤣

Had 4x Hankook Winter i cept evo3 tyres fitted. 245/46/R17.
Seem noticeable quieter than the Conti Winter Contact 830s I had on before.

The new local tyre shop I used was in a rubbish, over populated, prehistoric trading estate, but they have great reviews on Google.

I'm pleased to report no obvious alloy damage, they used a torque wrench to do up the wheel bolts, and the tyres are well balanced up to any speeds I'll need in the UK, with zero vibration detectable.

Place had Hunter alignment, but I didn't bother as all four old tyres seemed pretty evenly worn, with no tyres showing any heavy inner shoulder wear, which used to be an issue on my w203 C320.

I do like new tyre day.

Took one to the main dealer to have a part replaced which I’ve been waiting for since May. I blooming hope it fixes the issue.

I rarely have a courtesy car but needed one today as Mrs D won’t be able to ferry me back and forth today, so driving a courtesy car is a rare treat.

It’s a GLC 300 4matic AMG Line. I know that because there’s a sticker on the back of the key - good job that the modern keys are big!

It’s jolly nice. It has a great big screen in the centre and another generous screen in the cluster, both of which are nice to use.

It’s incredibly smooth and very very quiet in the move, the engine mounts must do an incredible job of filtering out vibrations.

The engine is surprisingly intrusive at at low speeds, and really stands out because of it being at odds with actually driving.

Posh car for a courtesy car these days. I must be today’s VIP customer or a small perk for waiting 6 months for an active transmission mount!

Rotated my CTEK chargers today to make sure that the cars which haven’t been used for a while and aren’t trickle are as healthy as they can be now were in the danger zone for weak batteries.

Worth popping your car on charge if you haven’t already, as just driving them may not be enough at this time of year with short journeys, dark nights and lots of heater/aircon action.

My Wife had an Hours Eye Appointment, so I went for a Blast up the A1 in, Wait for it:

SPORTS MODE!

Exciting Eh? ;):banana::banana::banana:
