My friend Simeon has a 280GE in for engine work and he asks if I could help find the correct MB tool. The timing chain is being split and there is an MB tool to rejoin the chain, but his local dealership isn't able to help - any suggestions welcome, he kindly hosted the Bicester gtg last spring...
Hey guys, so long story kind of short the water pump bearing failed and resulted in cutting into the timing chain casing. Now it was repaired temporarily with quiksteel but only lasted a few months. So i decided to take the pump off and try doing it again, only this time the whole piece of...
Hi all.could the experts please advise on this matter.my understanding was that the w203 does not have a timing belt but timing chain instead.does the engine/timing chain have to be replaced at some point ?thanks in advance.
While driving my C220 W204 a warning came up saying "check engine oil when next refuelling". Because the engine started to sound rough I drove the four miles to the main dealer very gently. The engine did not overheat nor was there a warning of low oil pressure. However, the engine required a...
Hi. Lately I have noticed when I 1st start my car the it a rattle. Only last 1 second or even less. Only happens if the car has been left. Sounds like a timing chain rattle. Has anyone else had this? Not sure if it's normal.
I know this is a previously discussed topic, but I thought I'd just add to it...
Whilst in Germany on business trip the other week, I was chatting with a taxi driver about the OM651 engine (as you do!). This taxi firm runs a large fleet of W212's, with a mixture of CDI200 and CDI220 engines...
How we going guys, i'm a newbie here and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding timing chain issues. Let me set the scene.
My car is a C180K 05 with roughly 69000miles on the clock. Upon hearing suspicious noises that sounded like the timing chain upon startup...

Hi all,
My Dad has just bought a b200 2011 with 50,000 on the clock. Being the B200 it's the diesel variant.
I'm trying to find out the service interval for the cam belt, or whether it even has a cam belt.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Will

Hi there,
I'm new to the Mercedes A180 - W169 - 2006. It's my wife's car and it rattles like mad at low revs. I've changed the Poly Belt and some pulleys but that's not stopped the noise
I've been told that it could well be the Timing Chain Tensioner but I can't see where it is located and I...
Hi all
I have a 2006 C180 Kompressor (1.8L engine) which has done 75,000 miles.
I have heard horror stories of the single timing chain (I believe this model has just one chain) stretching then breaking on this model sometimes, in the region of 70,000 - 120,000 miles, and causing damage to...
A180 CDI. This morning we had what I hope is just a chain tensioner failure at 62K. Sound like a bag of spanners rev dependent. Had just previously thought I noticed a slight "whine", but it wasn't clear and was intermittent.
Anyway, limped back carefully to my local indep chap and left it...
Hey all,
Had a great response to my last post so thanks everyone!#
Just a couple of basics, I have just purchased my '02' C230K and I have a couple questions on some maintenance.
I assume this has a cam chain rather than a cam belt, and if so its done 100k any recommendations on getting...
I have recently purchased a 2011 B180 CDI sport which I believe is a W245. Does it have a timing chain or belt and either way when does it need changing, if at all? TIA
Hi everyone,
For a little while now our semiauto / funshift A160 has been making a little whirring sound. Sort of like a very slow helicopter, but the sound speeds up with the revs. It happens when in neutral or in gear. It is a whirring sound that is steady at idle and increases with...
