£4k to spend what would you buy?

It was tonge in cheek, but shows how cheap some AMG are, which I guess was what my suggestion was more about. W210 55AMG are pennies.

I know it was tongue in cheek:thumb: he's also looking at S500's E500's etc trouble is there is a lot of carp about at the moment

Why not!!!?

Too much TLC needed on a car that old as a daily runner, you end up tinkering every weekend just to keep it in good fettle.

Better stick to a new fiesta then! Ha

Quite possibly very accurate.

If £4k is the max budget and he doesn't want to spend the w/e tinkering or spending additional money I'm not sure a MB is for him.

IMHO the Japanese have this end of the market nailed. Honda Accord/Civic?

How about a £500 Mk3 Golf Gti and spend the rest on the mother of all weekends in Prague?
No? Just me then! :-D

It is, but it's still an 11.5 year old, large petrol engined car.

Which I understand would put a lot of people off, not me!

Not necessarily I have a 17 year old CLK that is absolutely mint both mechanically and bodywise, I use it every other day but I never have to tinker every weekend. I just set aside one Sunday a month be it a full day or half a day to give it a good going over and keep it in fine fettle. If I had to do this every weekend it would be gone :thumb:

My BIL is a mechanic so no dramas in that department but lifes too short to continually be pratting with cars at the expense of the family.

I am switching from running old as a daily to new. I shall keep the XM I bought for the purpose, but too many little things that take up too much time - this is the same as every older car I've had from my first W124. The romance has gone - that is what a genuine classic is for, and the expense is actually far more than you think.
