All C43 AMG owners - What shall I do?

Why don't owners get independent advice from an Auto Engineering company ? See what the outcome is ? If it is concluded that it is dangerous, then the media needs to be aware of it and expose MB for their failure to see it and not re-calling, or pulling these cars off the road ? If this turns out to be the case, they are not only a danger to themselves but a danger to other road users.
Is it a steering assembly issue?
is it a steering geometry issue ?
Is a component issue ?

Either way it does not sound good for you owners of this model. Like I said earlier a few of my recent cars have crabbed to a degree but nothing like this.
I just accept that what I am witnessing is `normal` there again, there could be a fault with mine too. It is defo something I will be highlighting when I go for my first service, if I keep the car that long....

It will be interesting to see what the outcome of this is, I am concerned now for all involved.

Who says they aren't ;) not everything is played out in public. Something is held back to deal with in private. Especially when the lawyers are involved.

And regarding the National Media, watch this space as well :thumb:

How many owners have confirmed that they suffer from this issue?

My dealer confirmed to me today that they ALL do it, GLC's are the worst but they all have this 'characteristic'.

I was thinking more of confirmed issues, say those that have registered via the website set up maybe?

Dealers are legendary for saying 'They ALL do that sir'.

Yes, all GLC's suffer from this crabbing & juddering to a lesser or greater extent, and some owners are happy to live with the fault.

Take a look at the comments posted on the Honest John web site,

Mercedes-Benz refuses to fix crabbing problem on GLC and GLC Coupe | Motoring News | Honest John

Mercedes Dealer Refuses to Accept Ruling of Motor Ombudsman over GLC Crabbing Issue | Motoring News | Honest John

I would suggest the majority of families owning GLC's will not typically sign up and complain on forums like this. Dare I say, typical forum members on MBClub, GLCForums, Piston Heads and Honest John etc, are 'different' to the majority of 'normal family' car drivers. So the problem is much bigger than we seeing reported on the forums.

My dealer also said all of his GLC customers are complaining - some more than others :( He fully appreciates how embarrassing and depressing this issue is - he drives a crabbing GLC. But MB are telling him this 'characteristic' is only a comfort problem, and the dealership have to pass this information onto customers - nothing he can do :(

That information is there indeed, in the private area for registered and verified owners ;) With many more stats being gathered than Mercedes bothers to do via their Xentry/TIPS system.

But as Tony says - the demographic isn't typical for online communities. Registrations continue to grow on a daily basis.

And considering the opposition being provide by both people online saying that their 20 year old 190 does this as well, and Mercedes persistently trying to deflect and divert the situation there is unfortunately a whole cohort who truly believe it is normal.

You know in the same way like their GP can't do wrong, nor their priest. Their garage salesman is such a nice chap he always looks after them ;) That is a literal quote from my late father in law. I told him it is because you pay list price, always go back to him and don't question anything. But he still doesn't want to know because he is such a nice young man and knowledgeable. Well fair enough, his choice. I won't loose any sleep over it.

Funnily enough I've got a friend with a GLC250d who said it only does it occasionally and doesn't bother him. Well no more, it now does it persistently and constantly and it is driving him mad. He has gone from his best to his worst car and apologised for disbelieving me.

I truly believe that it is hard to comprehend for people how bad these vehicles behave.

Are we sure LHD cars don't do it? I'm pretty much sure that's a complete lie. If rear wheel drive cars do it, the steering wheel being on the other side won't matter. Maybe it's because they're not so obsessed with huge wheels on the continent and also use winter wheels/tyres when it's worst

So, U.S. customers are requested to sign a waiver too! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Big wheels....

I don't know what you mean with that reply. Anyway, it doesn't matter either judging by your posts on this subject.

But do not see what you implied in your last post. Laughable, truly laughable. And never mind U.S. customers being requested to sign a waiver that would mean German customers too! Both of which love a bit of bling including large wheels and the wheels seem irrelevant anyway as there's reports both here and elsewhere that cars fitted with smaller wheels have the issue also.

Do you really think if the problem was also in L/H/D cars that's how M-B would handle the situation...

100% Sure - No. However the posts have gone on similar US, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Swedish and Poland focussed online communities. It has the exposure, and the discussions but no confirmed cases. No people at all stepping forward that they have the issue as well.

As you may have guess I'm not a native Brit, I've tested this myself now as well in the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland. No such issues at all, and the cars are off factory also on summer tyres.

FYI, in Germany Winter tyres are compulsory, could also be an issue here but they may not be feeling the full affect due to them changing tyres over at the critical temperatures.

Just a thought? Also I got this on my 45, not to the extent some are highlighting with excess tyre wear. Hope you all get the answers you want!

:confused::confused::confused:

What does that mean? The wheel/tyre options are the same.

The guy doesn't know what he's talking about, he's constantly in salesman mode and would tell anybody black is white if it suited the situation. He's also dug himself a hole.

After all it was he who made a statement to effect it's the wheel and tyre combination that's at fault not so long ago on this very thread and said he was well informed or better informed about the problem than anybody else!

Anyway, dejongi I'll leave you to it and do hope you and your fellow owners get the problem sorted (doubtful) or get recompense of some sort. Wishing you well future.

Ahem I'm sorry to tell you DannyHall but that is not wholly accurate information; the bit you forget to include is; when driving on snow, black ice or roads covered in frost.

And even then they are in a minority compared to the rest of the European continent.

Please do not get me wrong, I'm a big fan of winter tyres when the conditions require them. The South-East of England isn't really such an area, neither are most parts of Europe.

Ha, you're correct! However i'm yet to witness a winter in Germany without a hint of ice, slush, snow.. But you get what i'm saying.. Tyres USUALLY go on around October - March, so some people may not notice the issue as much as here in the UK

Well having started this Thread thought now's the time to update it as have now had my C43 Estate on 19's for around 3 weeks.

First, I am glad I went ahead with the purchase: It really is a powerful beast. Yes, I have a had a few full-lock crabbies but if I hadn't been looking/listening for them then maybe I would not have noticed its impossible to say.

Sorry to hear that some members have cancelled their orders and gone off to Audi but its a significant purchase so you have to be completely confident.

Having come into my first Mercedes from an Audi SQ5 its hard to compare but the build and finish of the MB is far superior to the Audi but that's no big surprise as the Audi is getting on a bit now and I am sure the next gen Q5/SQ5 will be much improved. But that is then and this is now.

Looking ahead to my first service I will take it back to the dealer I bought it from even though they are not my local dealer I feel that should there be any tyre related issues I will be in a better position to discuss and move any issue forward with them rather than another dealer who probably couldn't care less not having bought the car from them.

For now all is well and I am more than happy with my purchase and should the mighty MB decide to put their hands up and offer a solution to this problem I will consider my options then but for now and unless this 'characteristic' gets up my nose in the future then only time will tell. Having said that I am assuming that when the warmer weather arrives this issue will be on vacation elsewhere so will not even enter my head for many months!!!!
