Some good posts on here.
Sound advice and some good ribbing too
The first thing I would say, Blondee, is try and decide whether you will actually keep this car long enough to warrant spending a fair amount on it.
I'm sure 99% of us on here have had cars in the past that we have spent stupid amounts of money on while climbing the car "ladder".
I've done it myself.
Don't get me wrong, I've always loved doing things to cars, to personalise them, mod them or improve their performance and I don't regret one bit of it.
I'm just wondering whether it might be better and more satisfying for you to wait until you have a car you know you will keep for a good amount of time (if that day ever comes!
).
I referring more to things like extensive exhaust work, remaps and even body styling. These are aspects that can potentially reduce your success in selling it on. You also need to consider insurance implications, especially if you're not likely to have the car in a year or twos time.
As for more cosmetic things (wheels, interior bits and pieces), I'd say go for it.
Mercedes already supply cars with various AMG features, so adding AMG bits to the car wouldn't be doing anything that they aren't doing already themselves.
However, as Howard mentioned (and as you've agreed), don't badge it as an AMG.
It's really quite cringeworthy to see a non AMG car badged as an AMG.
It's not just Mercedes cars either, I see countless random BMW's badged as M3's
:fail
If you do decide to do exhaust work etc, you don't need to by off the shelf AMG stuff, as mentioned.
Acid at MSL do fine work. It's ideal because he is close to you.
The main point of call down this way is EMP Performance.
Countless people have used them and report nothing but good things.
I even trusted them with my car and have them build me a custom exhaust.... I did stand over the guy doing the work though.... for 12 hours solid!
lol
There are also lots of places to get bits and pieces for your car.
Defintely jump on here and run any ideas or plans by this lot on here.
We'll advise you what works and where to go.
You'll want to avoid places like CKS Performance - over priced and shockingly appalling attitude to customer service.
I don't suspect you'll be looking to by forged wheels just yet, but I can certainly advise on that too!
Your car is your car.
So do what makes you happy.
