AMG GT Test Drive

^^^ Well if he would be so kind to order it in yellow so that I can buy it off him then, that'd be marvellous.

You mean after I'd have lost ALL the £10k it costs?!?!?

Really ****ing annoying that it costs so much because THAT really is the colour.

The problem is almost the yellow is 'the' GT colour as you say!

Having just gone a bonkers choice of colour on the SL (Not nearly in your league!) I am pleased I did as it is so unique. But the difference is the car is used as a 3rd/4th/5th car and I can warrant looking after the car a bit more exclusively.

However the RS6 is red and looks awesome but needs cleaning constantly.

You won't lose ALL of it but I accept the 10pc of the list price for paint is a lot. But then you could save yourself 100k and not buy one at all.

Who has more money than sense - the person who spends 10k on a colour they like, or the person who spends 100k on a car in a colour they don't like

Yellow? Looks crap imo., didn't even know it cost 10k as I never really considered that colour.

My original colour was designo diamond white but after seeming a magno GTS in the S.France I had to amend my order as it looked incredible.

Can't wait to get mine.

When's your delivery date?

Mmm, well.....I appear to have attracted some (unnecessary) insults about money and sense. So to be clear - just because I don't really 'love' any of the colours (i.e. none of them really stand out, not even the yellow if I'm being really honest) does not mean I don't want the car. What an odd thing to imply stumpy??

My dealer have been very helpful and understanding, including looking into whether I could get the Designo department at the factory to have it painted in the colour I really wanted - the metallic Le Mans red from the SLS. Unfortunately it's not to be as it's apparently a discontinued colour. And I suspect it would've delayed built beyond what I would be prepared to wait.

Anyway, decision made and spec is fully locked down. No going back. I always wanted a red one. I thought the metallic red would be the nicest option. It isn't. As you can see, I've tried to convince myself of other colours but I just can't - I still want a red one :wallbash:

So, I'm buying a red one. Fire Opal red, with the leather/alcantara interior, red stitching and red seatbelts. Job done, and I've saved (or rather not spent) £1k+ by going for one of only two free paint options.

I don't think he was implying you have more money than sense, I think he was suggesting you would be stupid to buy such an expensive car and not have it in a colour you like. I think the red will look really good

It will be spectacular in red - a real head turner - I'm sure you won't regret it Andrew.

As a newbie to this forum reading the thread I think you made the right choice by going for the original colour ( all be different shade of red ) as its was what you wanted when you order the car and if you had change the colour completely different you might have all ways wounded if you had made the right choice -any way the way that car can go nobody will see the colour as you whizz past ..

Brilliant colour for it !!!

Sorry Andrew if I have offended you as I am not suggesting that you fit that profile in any way. The point I am making is that it is often implied that people who spend such a lot of money on paint are mugs (fools and their money etc). Personally I find it odd to spend such a lot of money on a car and not have it how you want it. After all, you spent a lot of time and money getting your SLS how you wanted it.

There are many more examples of things that I don't personally understand. Porsche charge 200 quid to have your key painted the same colour as your car. I wouldn't but many people do. Rolls Royce want 100k to personalise your seatbelts. I didn't tick that box either.

If not spending money on options is so important we can save ourselves a fortune and not buy the car in the first place. A few cottoned on to my point and I am sorry once again that you didn't.

It read like that to me as I'm going through the same dilemma with a Range Rover Sport. It's also exactly the same cost funnily enough.

Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) at JLR will paint your car any colour you like for £10K (as long as it's available to retail bodyshops and not restricted by licence or trademark).

I've been umming and ahhing about this for a while but your comment made sense. Why pay that much for a car to start with and not have the colour you want.

So a Range Rover Sport in Aston Martin Amethyst Red is our next car.

Porsche's Paint to Sample is cheap at a mere £2900
