Best options for sealing new Calcite White paint?

So, thought I'd report back having taken delivery of the car on Thursday. Took advantage of the mild dry day today to give the car a good clean and seal to hopefully help keep it looking white!

After washing, it was clear that even though the car is only 2 days/250 miles old, some surfaces were already showing signs of fall out and crap sticking to the paint. The main affected areas were the front and rear bumpers and roof. I used AG SRP on these areas and luckily the small black dots came off easily.

Goes to show how important it is to seal the paint with a good wax/sealer, especially light colours.

Then used Collinite 476s on all the painted surfaces/door shuts etc. 476s is in my experience is a great wax at sealing out the elements that lasts well. Will be interesting to see how well it protects the car over the next few weeks. Hopefully will make it easier to keep clean!

Used the 476s on the wheels as well. Rain X on the side glass. Tyres dressed.

Bling! :)

Cracking looking car... best colour choice you have there!! enjoy :thumb:

Quick report back on how Collinite 476s is doing on the car.

I'm doing about 700 miles a week at the moment so when the weekend comes round it looks filthy! I've been washing it evey weekend and there is no doubt that the 476 is making the job very easy indeed.

Jet washing the car removes 90% of the crap as the 476 doesn't allow it to stick.
I use a weak car wash solution and the remaining dirt wipes off very easily.
Rinsing off you can see the water just sheet off the surface.

Same on the wheels, a quick wipe and they're like new again.

I can wash, rinse and dry the body, clean the wheels & door shuts in 40 mins.

If you like to keep your car looking like new, and want to keep it so without spending hours, buy some 476. No doubt at all in my mind that it protects the paint easily and effectively.

I used Natty's Paste Wax on my car last Saturday, its made by Poorboys! Collinite gets a good name, how's it lasting Ace571?

It's lasting really well. Water beads off the car almost as well as it did when just applied. I wash the car weekly and I'm really pleased to how it's performing.

Low sections of the car do show some dirt sticking on after washing which is probably more to do with the low pressure applied to the paint with my wash mitt!

I've bought some of this stuff on your recommendation but not had a chance to use it yet.

Honestly, I keep meaning to but the weather keeps making excuses for me (yes I'm wimping out for now!).

You are wimping out A-A :)

Two tips - preparation of the paint is key, get it as perfect as possible. Clay and cleanse if you have to.

With the 476s, don't apply to much or leave for too long before buffing. Better to apply to coats than apply too much once.

Have exactly the same on mine, did this back in November & it still beads well.

Washed it & winter tyres on 10th December, wasn't then cleaned again until 7th Jan which included in that time a 1200 mile haul to europe and parts afar.
Hosed, Wash mitt & 2 buckets & the grime fell off... nice :D

I use 476S as well think it's fantastic, use Poorboys White Diamond before that too.

Ends up looking very glossy and stays that way.

Where's the best place to buy this 'collinite 476s' and how much is it for a tub?

Cheers for the tips - yes I am wimping out...

Any advice on claying then?

Not tried it before, which clay bar any tips on use too?

iron-x gel or spray it before you clay it works wonders and reduces the amount of effort you need to put in when claying. Use a medium clay bar? Depends greatly on the surface of your paint, I've got a medium and fine bar but generally only need to use the fine bar on mine for the majority of the bodywork, use the medium one on the under sides of the sideskirts and the rear bumper & glass. More important is to keep the panels lubed up!

Hi everyone, my first proper post.

I use Colllinite 476 - tried lots of stuff since september last year but this is the one that eases the washing in my experience. Keeps it gleaming and beads beautifully. It also feels silky smooth.

I tried the autoglym HD wax for a few washes. It leaves a nice wet look finish but it doesnt seem to be as hardy as collinite and doesnt bead as well after the first week.

I also tried the autoglym extra gloss protection which is the easiest to apply - looks good when fresh but isnt great for keeping the dirt off it. This is very to the above two as it is synthetic and its in liquid form.

I've got a bottle of mer as well - used once didnt take to that - lots of powder - didnt hold up great either.

I concur with the view that new paint shouldnt be polished. I seem to recall I read some years back in the manual of a Saab I had that the piant took several months to harden fully (from memory upto 4 months). Logically polishing doesnt seem to sit well with the concept of not having fully hardened paint. Maybe merc paint is different and paint technology has moved on this was about 6 years ago.

Got my first Benz back in September last year in Calcite White. Absolutely love it.

Every spec of dirt shows up. I also get lots of stuff sticking to the paint despite the dealer Starguarding it (Starguard appears to be totally useless; they gave me a really fancy looking kit but the sponge and wheel brush look like they are from a £ shop !).

After spending about four hours on my first wash I went out and bought some Snow Foam and a foaming dispenser for prewashing for keeping those swirls to a minimum, only the remnants of the hardiest of stuff (some wierd species of tree near my office) now stick which I remove with some megs bug and tar remover. I was skeptical about the snow foam but it does work if left to soak for about 5-10 minutes, takes off quite lot of the dirt. It doesnt strip the existing wax as some people have claimed on some detailing forums. I use it neat. I also use a separate bucket and sponge for the sill areas, wheels and wheel arches o stop the bucket becoming contaminated with fine particles.

I avoid (weather permitting) letting other people wash it as I heard some of those hand wash places use things like washing up liquid (typically £1 a bottle - 1 bottle washes loads of cars) instead of car shampoo (typically £5 plus a bottle - 1 bottle doesn't wash loads of cars) .

I'll post some pics soon.

Problem areas are at the front wheel arches on the faces of the side skirts immediately behind the front wheels which have been peppered with stone chips. Anyone got any suggestions re film coatings or any other protection for those areas?

Welcome to the forum and good to hear another positive outcome for 476S. It definitely speeds up keeping the car clean, which is the key point for me.

The problem you will have with the chipped surfaces are they will need repainting before applying any film. Paintshield gets a good write up for this.
