Well I'm assuming it's a write off. Doesn't look quite so bad here as the bonnet vertical bits around the grille were pushed back behind the headlights until I liberated them to pump out some of the full tank of petrol. With the bonnet push that far back I was suprised it was still driveable.

Needs:

Bonnet, Slam Panel, Headlamps, Air-con Condensor (possibly fans), Grille, numerous pipes, clips, shrouds etc. The nose dive at the front means the bumper is just badly scratched, but could be salvaged. Radiator holds water, but is pushed back right against the fan. Brake pipes pushed against the ABS unit but looks OK.

What do folks reckon, write off? With 153K on the clock value must be between £1500 and £2k. Doesn't by a lot of parts/labour/paint.

I'm a slightly uncertain because the front wings are untouched and the beam behind the bumper looks straight - that they might attempt a repair. Anyone more knowledgable care to comment?

Id consider buying it back and repairing it, depending on the figures.

Not as bad as it looks :thumb:
Let me know if you want to repair. (I know a good reliable 2nd hand parts specialist.)

My 2000 C230K (157,000) had a 2k repair in November last. Only required new bonnet and paint to windscreen forward. Very close to write off though.

Should you buy it back, I have a my old facelift bumper skin you can have for free. Could do with a spray due to the number of stone chips, but its not at all bent/scratched.

Sounds like you both think it will be a write off (especially if it was 2K for a just a bonnet and paint), but repairable with second hard parts and mostly DIY labour.

Steve. Mine was a write off, until..... I got the figures regarding the repair. The authorised repairer tried to claim for a wing and a bumper that was only scratched and a grille that had seen 150k miles of abrasion from road debris. Once it was agreed that the repairer was taking the p*ss the repair was carried out. It's a pity that all insurers don't audit there repairers further than they do, if at all. It would certainly bring our premiums down!
I know that a genuine MB bonnet is £350 retail for your 202, not sure about the other parts although I had to buy an MB radiator for my C250TD 18 months ago which was £200 with my discount, so you can draw some conclusions as to the rest of the parts.
I'm guessing that less than a grand un-discounted from MB maybe £300-350 secondhand. As I said before, let me know if you want to go the 'repair yourself' route.
Good luck whatever way you go.

Definately a write off.

A friend of mine in Maidenhead has a reasonable silver bonnet & grille you could buy cheap. It's just taking up space in his garage.

Thats a write off :(

Try and spec up and see how much it would cost to replace the parts bit by bit though, you may be in for a surprise... then you can buy back and repair yourself! If its a reliable good car that is (which i'm sure it is!).

I've got a boot lid taking up space in my garage - swap :D

First day I took my CLK into work, I parked where I always did.
When I reversed back the front lip (AMG) caught on the kerb and broke. I took it to an independant who does insurance company work and he quoted c.£1500.
I took it to another guy who took it off, strengthed the break behind got a perfect colour match - £150.

I never parked there again.

Annoyed now - UK assistance were supposed to contact me yesterday to pick the car and assess it. They didn't - just phoned them, offered me a collection slot on Friday!!! But then a sudden cancellation opened up tomorrow when I said that was a long waf odd (:dk:), they should assess and hopefully confirm write off (or not) in 24 hours. Also dispite the fact it's less than a mile away the assesor won't come out to the car.

Means I have to wait until Thursday most annoying now I've got the Alfa lined up. Pretty certain it is written off, but just don't want to commit until I know. Then it will be a few days before I can pick the Alfa up.:(
