C350e owners club

Had mine 4 weeks, 800 miles. Love the car. A few little things - I agree with the post about the brakes feeling weird and having no a mind of their own, but that doesn't particularly bother me.

3 things I've questions on. One is a symbol on the console - just want to check that it means that the passenger airbag is disabled. Not sure why there is a 2 number next to the symbol - 2nd person? Just seems odd, and can't get 100% confirmed from manual

Second is sat Nav audio - can you turn off the voice and just receive the onscreen directions? I use sat Nav in the drive to work so it can make the best use of the batteries and to check for traffic. But I've driven the route for 5 years so I know the way!!!

And 3rd ... I can heard a constant very high pitch noise. Most noticeable when the stereo is off. My dad used to have an animal/pest scarer and the range of noise is like that (he couldn't hear it). Anyone rlse? Would rather not both with taking it in, as I bet they will say they can't hear it. Anyway - any comments appreciated.

Airbag - the light only goes out if the car detects someone suitable is in the seat, if say a small child sits in the chair and the light doesnt go out thats means the airbag is NOT active - i dont believe you can disable this, its all automatic to be as safe as possible - Volvo used to prevent you from disabling the front airbag and therefore you couldn't put a baby car seat in the front - reason being the safest place for a baby is in a rear ward facing seat in the rear.

Sat Nav - took me a few days until i found you can mute it just like the radio (same button on the steering wheel ) you have to do it when the directions are being announced or else it just mutes the radio/media

High pitch noise ? - sorry no idea

Hi Jaid2016

Problem with our car is its multifaceted nature, usually I drive in Eco or Comfort with the occasional Sport or Sport+ when I am in the mood and SWMBO isn't in the car.

With the chip it's bloody quick, but it's bloody quick anyway.

to be honest I'm not sure how much difference the chip makes, need really to drive it spiritedly in one of the sports modes this week and take the chip off to see if the difference is noticeable.

When I plant my right foot in Sports+ the car surges forward with wheel spin and imparts a big smile, how much is placebic, (not sure if that is really a word), and how much is extra from the chip I don't know.

Promise by the end of this week will have taken the chip off, will post photos and will post before and after results.

Hi Quonker sorry to bother you but did you get the chance to take it off and see what difference you could feel? Thanks bud J

Airbag - as I thought, but wanted to double check. Not that I'm ever planning on them being used!!!

Sat Nav - that's brilliant to know. Obvious, and it feels like I should have tried it, so great info.

Hi All, Had a couple of E250's prior to the C350e the car overall is top one thing niggles the brakes have a strange feel when the car is coming to stand still the servos seem to have a mind of their own ?...any one else experiencing this ? first noticed this on a demo that had 15,000 on clock, I thought the brakes may have had warped discs, but the same feeling is on my new one when you are just coming to stand still...

Any feedback welcome

Yes, exactly the same on mine. I think it depends on if the car is harvesting electric from the brakes, but I find it disconcerting as there's no continuity from one stop to the next. Sometimes it feels like some old Land Rover brakes which need bleeding, the next you can stand it on it's nose. Very hard to drive smoothly.

I had to ask too. You can also push down the volume thumb wheel on the centre console.

The brakes on the C300h at exactly the same. In Sport/Sport+ mode they are fine.

Brakes

Yes agree with all replies,in the last few seconds of stopping, takes a while to get used to it. Don't drive in S or S+ so can't comment.

You can also press the voice control and say - "guidance instructions off" !!!!

Haha! Crazy car. Three ways to do one simple task. I really need to get my head round what else I can do with voice command. All I have managed so far is "Call Home". :o

Has anyone worked out if you can make it default to start with the voice off?

I'm fed up of saying "guidance instructions off" everytime I use it...

EDIT: I do love the voice commands though, three short phrases and I can be on my way home, no hands, no fuss. Good for speedy exits from train station/airport carparks.

That would be nice as I too have to disable it EVERY morning and evening on the commutes but I fear it is not possible.

I would personally really like to set a sat nav destination in the favorites ( like the shortcut in my old BMW 5 series ) but its still pretty quick to set a destination every morning / evening so no real bother.

Strangely I have had to turn off my HUD as its hurting my eyes - turns out i need glasses, pah - getting old

Tekky - you can. Go into Navigation, select your destination, and then instead of pressing 'Start' hold down the Favourites button for 2-3 seconds

I've now got 'Home' as #1, 'Work' as #2, 'Guidance Instructions Off' as #3, and 'Wife' as #4. All I need to do is press Favourites and select in a morning, and I'm off...

Spent 50 minutes sat in the car on the drive this morning - been playing around, and now much happier about what I can do. I've been through the Linguatronic setup to improve voice recognition, all my favourites are set, it is now allowing me to read my iPhone messages through the interface, I know how to navigate to a post code via the voice system, I know how to search for music (not off the iPhone unfortunately) using the voice system, know how to do a Google Local Search, and how to transfer a Navigation destination from my phone... and I also know that I can ask for 'help' with the voice commands, by saying 'help navigation' or 'help phone'

Phew!! Never going to remember it all...

Do you do home visits? :thumb:

How did you get your text messages working?

How did you get your text messages working?

It's an iPhone (not Merc) setting

Go to Settings -> Bluetooth -> 'MB Bluetooth' -> Enable the 'Show Notifications' option

It's a little clunky in terms of how it works. It beeps and then shows up next to your phone signal strength on the main Command screen - and then you have to go through the menus to get to the message. at which point you can choose to have it read out. Would be great if there was a quick 'read message' command - but I haven't found a shortcut yet.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. The way it works is the same as my old BMW. Before that I had an Alfa which read the messages out, including "Smiley face" and "Sad face". :) :(

Completely agree. I think the balance between energy regeneration and friction braking is a bit clunky.

I don't drive much in sport or sport+. My guess is that it'll be better in those modes than in comfort or eco.

Yes in full E-mode no judder when slow down...me thinks the new E350e does not do this with the 9 speed box, overall car is good looking forward to the Tax benefits..

Hi,

While in navigation you can also press the central rocker switch/button and select the mute symbol which turns off the satnav voice.

Not worked out how to make calls with voice commands though : (

Good evening,

First post after lurking for months, hope i can ask for some advice. Feel like a child waiting for christmas at the moment. I had a C250d premium on order since April, i called our leasing company to complain about lack of information from the dealer about actual build date of the car in South Africa. Delivery looked like it was going to be early October at best. I commented that if i had known that the leadtime was going to be so long i would have ordered the C350e instead. Well knock me down with a feather, they offered me a C350e for immediate delivery. Managed to get my boss to authorise a change in order and fingers crossed pick up a Sport Premium in white on the 16th of August. So to my question, does e save mode only work when you have a destination programmes into the sat nav ?

Thanks in advance Nodders
