C350e owners club

Good evening,

First post after lurking for months, hope i can ask for some advice. Feel like a child waiting for christmas at the moment. I had a C250d premium on order since April, i called our leasing company to complain about lack of information from the dealer about actual build date of the car in South Africa. Delivery looked like it was going to be early October at best. I commented that if i had known that the leadtime was going to be so long i would have ordered the C350e instead. Well knock me down with a feather, they offered me a C350e for immediate delivery. Managed to get my boss to authorise a change in order and fingers crossed pick up a Sport Premium in white on the 16th of August. So to my question, does e save mode only work when you have a destination programmed into the sat nav ?

Thanks in advance Nodders

No, you don't need a sat Nav destination to use e-save. In Economy mode with sat nav destination the car determines the best use of the battery. It's fun in a sad kind of way to see how the cars electronics are utilising the battery, including charging on occasion to use more battery later in the journey. Most seem to agree that by manually switching between hybrid, Esave and Emode you can beat the onboard computer for battery usage and mpg.

My car was showing a measily 12 miles of electric range after charging this evening. And that's on a nice warm Summer's day!

My wife seems to think i get fun in a sad kind of a way so i look forward to trying that

I am kind of sad in that way. I find the E driving mode can be a bit overzealous in its charging. If you have a lengthy bit of urban at the end of the journey then it can be worth it but I find that when charging on the motorway mpg drops to low 30s which really hits the average if you don't use all that battery at the end.

For journeys I know, I do switch manually and seems to work well, my girlfriend just gives me funny looks!

hi all - long time reader, first time post. have a selenite grey sport premium plus with black interior ordered - being given a date of mid november.

couple of questions for you guys:

does anyone know whether the dates we are being given are accurate currently?
has anyone one over 6 ft 2 had any issues with head height on models with panoramic sunroof?
does anyone share my frustration that there are no decent, english speaking reviews of specifically the c350e on youtube (despite there being many many good c class reviews)?
Any of you current owners fancy making one for those of us still playing the waiting game?

so looking forward to getting this car - it's a company car and the first time I have ever owned a car anywhere remotely close to this value or spec etc. seems like it never will but the day will come eventually I'm sure! that's what my wife tells me anyway...
thanks

very jealous! mine has been on order for couple months now...hope it turns out to be as good as anticipated for you.

what spec and colour etc?

can I encourage any others who have cars to continue to post pictures and updates on 'daily living with the car' experiences

how fast is it? what would you compare it's straight line speed to for example?

Welcome and I hope you'll like the car when you've received it had it long enough to learn how to get the best out of it.

To answer your question, the straight line speed seems to vary depending upon where you are. In this country, I've managed to get it up to 70mph on several occasions. But in France it can go a little quicker; I've seen 130kph in good weather. However, in both countries, I have noticed that most other cars seem to be able to go a lot quicker. :)

Water ingress

Just got my car back after a week with MB. I'd had issues with the car refusing to use electric a few times over last couple of months despite plenty of charge and no issue charging.
Went in with this a couple of months ago and all it got was a software reset. Took it to another dealer this time and it's turned out to be water ingress assumed via the socket so new socket and internal cabling fitted.
I always charge regardless of weather but backed up to single storey garage with soffit overhang so minimal exposure to rain really. Fingers crossed they've improved the parts involved.

Daily living with the car is a lot of short journeys mostly on electric. Then the occasional one of these, which hurts my mpg.

I'm 6ft 4 ins and have no problem at all with headroom, I love the sunroof, significant other laughs at the frequency that I open and close it.

It's my first car with a sunroof for ages, it's fab.

Love the way it changes the angle when going at speed to reduce noise and the fact you can leave it wide open in the knowledge that if it rains it will automatically close, very posey.

I was initially concerned as to whether HYBRID ( in electric drive ) / EMODE (ie. electric only ) would be too slow and therefore annoying for my normal daily driving and even worse dangerous for pulling out of fast moving junctions ( ie. 60 MPH traffic from left/right ) - to get the best MPG you will need to change drive mode although generally HYBRID / COMFORT is perfect.

I often find myself moving to SPORT to ensure the engine is running when I need to move quickly at a fast moving junction, to get that extra jump.

How fast is it ? plenty fast enough to out drive most cars and its quite funny when another C class tries to blast off in front / alongside of you without realising what you're in when you go sailing past, although even funnier is when 2 C350e's have a little race as I found out the other day ( we both had the same idea of putting into SPORT+ and flooring it when green ! I won by the way, just )

Overall, I find myself driving more safely ( slowly, and cautiously ) in the never ending quest of MPG ( 99.9 which I typically get on my daily commutes )

Hi Jonbar,

It will be the Sport Premium in white with black artico interior. Saw an interesting video on Youtube which measured the 80 to 120kmh in gear acceleration at 3.3 seconds. That is insanely quick for a 1.7 ton saloon car.

I didn't know that about the sunroof angle changing according to speed! Tend to shut it as I hit the motorway. Will leave it and look out for it tomorrow. One things for sure I'll be learning new things about this car for ages yet, 4,000 miles in since April.

Just ordered a C350e in Australia. Delivery supposed to be November. How good are MB at keeping delivery promises?

It looks like Aus specs are slightly different to UK specs. Main difference seem to be that it comes with 19" AMG wheels. Have ordered it with Vision Package, COMAND package and Seat Package. Polar white with Silver Grey seats.

Would love to hear from anyone in Australia what they think (Also, from anyone else, for that matter)

I had a 2008 C320 before my Jaguar XF and was delighted with that car.

My experience of the estimates on here is some get it earlier some later, mine was 3 weeks late, a colleagues was 1 week early.

My wife used to tell me to stop talking about that bloody car.....she still does, that should give you a feel about the car, over 3 months into ownership and I still waffle on about it......

Yesterday I did a chunk of sport and sport+ (smile enducing)....as others have said its the way you can switch it from a quiet comfortable electric only commuter to a race bit of fun so easily.

Hello all. Loving my C350e estate with all the toys (many of which I have not mastered yet). Disappointed in the petrol consumption compared to a Vx 2.0 petrol turbo I owned previously, but managing to eke out the electric with careful selection of modes etc. so all is good. 60.1mpg on the last tank rather undermines the case I made to Mrs Leander to upgrade from my 2010 C220...

My question relates to the fabled software upgrade to get the external temperature on display. What else is updated as part of this software fix? It seems a lot of hassle just for a temperature display!

My software was updated in February and at that time there were no other upgrades or fixes. I still think it was worthwhile during the winter months.
I believed new cars have the external temperature on the odometer/trip screen?
