C350e owners club

Toyota have been running hybrids for years and some epic mileages. I wonder how they do it? Surely M-B must have cribbed their design?

I had a Prius for a couple of years. 1.5L engine and a total of 110bhp. Struggled up hills on the motorway. Not sure M-B cribbed much from their design. ;)

I need a new windscreen (C350e premium plus with driving assistance pack, plus several others!). I know I've seen some discussion recently on his topic so I know I want Mercedes to replace it, however as a lease car I'm guessing I may have a battle coming up. Has anyone here had any success with getting Lex to do this? Thanks!

I've had a 350e Estate (standard model) since Sept 2015 and, after a perfect 14 months, have experienced quite a few problems. The air suspension has failed three times (each requiring a week off the road in a MB courtesy car), the Sat Nav regularly says the SD card is unreadable, USB1 says there's no music on the stick, but it plays fine in USB2, the tailgate open warning regularly comes on at speeds over 10mph, but goes off when I stop. The tailgate always being properly closed too. The local Merc dealer (very courteous and helpful) has changed everything at least twice and I'm still getting the tailgate/sat nav/media errors. Lex sent an independent engineer to inspect the car, said it was fine and withing a couple of days the tailgate/sat nav/media errors all returned. I took pics and Lex offered to terminate the four year lease which I thought was very unusual. The car goes back this week. Has anyone else had similar problems? The car has around 58k miles on it at the moment and is about 1.5k miles form a major service.

I got Autoglass to do it but insisted they use an official Mercedes Screen after confirming insurance company were happy with this. They did a good job, they insisted I take it to an Autoglass centre, wouldn't do mobile.

I've got a slight rattle in my door. :D

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I am sure they will have checked this, but many multiple, unrelated electric errors in a modern car often point to a failing 12 volt battery.

Very few problems here. Maybe a USB music glitch, but it might be the drive rather than the car.

Here's a useful hint.

When you get the reminder about your VED from the DVLA, don't ignore it because it's a zero value. You still have to process it as if you were buying it... I only know this because I received a "final reminder" yesterday!:o

Oops, looks like I may need to get something else fixed while they do the windscreen....

Had a relaxed trip to work out of the M25 fast lane at 6:00 this morning, so nice constant driving and then the usual mix of B roads. 34 miles travelled, 51 minutes, ave speed 39 mph, consumption 118 mpg, ICE off 26 miles. Quite impressive at this time of year, even dare I say it approaching the official figures.

Wow!

Assume half of that is pure electric and you're still managing 60mpg. Very nice.

The hot weather makes a huge difference doesn't it?
I got to work (6 miles electric, 2 miles ICE) and I had 100% battery left!

Does hot weather improve things, even with Aircon taken into account?

I don't know all the factors, but my summer electric range is double my winter range. Maybe the battery conditioning uses a lot of power in cold weather?

As I understand it, there is an optimal battery operating temperature. In the cold it takes a long time to get to it, or on a short journey maybe doesn't get to it at all. Plus, you inevitably want some heat into the cabin too, so that further hits the batteries. When it's the summer the batteries are working in their optimum range. Incidentally if it gets too hot, they can start suffering again, but I think we are talking Death Valley hot.

As Dodgy says, your battery range is doubled in the the hot weather. Air con doesn't dint the range like heating does.

This doesn't make complete sense to me?.....

Apologies!

Set off on my 8 mile commute with 100% charge.

6 miles is suburban trundle. I do that on electric.
2 miles is motorway. I do that on ICE so I have more oomph, and it saves my electric for more suburban trundling on the way home.

I completed the journey and with some coasting and braking off the motorway I was back to 100% charge. In the winter the same journey would leave me 70%.

Hope that clears it up. :thumb:
