Apologies!

Set off on my 8 mile commute with 100% charge.

6 miles is suburban trundle. I do that on electric.

2 miles is motorway. I do that on ICE so I have more oomph, and it saves my electric for more suburban trundling on the way home.

I completed the journey and with some coasting and braking off the motorway I was back to 100% charge. In the winter the same journey would leave me 70%.

Hope that clears it up. :thumb:

Less confused now!

Are you in hybrid mode the whole way, or do you use e-mode on the suburban roads and charge mode on the motorway?

Also, is the part of your journey between the motorway and your place of work very short?

I use hybrid in normal mode for the 6 miles, but never bring the ICE into play.

Sometimes on my way home, if I know I can get home I will use E-MODE if the charge is getting low as if you fall below 20% it normally starts the ICE, but E-MODE will run it down to 10%.

For the motorway I use E-SAVE, not charge. (Charge increases the load on the ICE quite noticeably).

I work about 200 yards off the motorway junction so it's very short, so I tend to leave the ICE running for that bit.

I really enjoy tinkering around with the different modes. Sounds sad I know, but the split personality of this car is really interesting. Last night I had a good zip about in Sport mode. Then this morning I'm back to humming along in near silence.

This sounds just like me, I rarely have a journey anywhere without some mode\regen changes!

When I read this, I start thinking again about whether my battery is faulty.

Even in this weather I would have at most 60% of my battery left after the 6-mile suburban section. I could maybe get back to 65% from coasting and breaking off the motorway. Your winter battery performance is better than my summer! Unless it's all downhill? [emoji45]

I must admit I was left thinking similar, is the urban bit flat or downhill?

I have a 19.5 mile commute, IIn summer usually run on all elec in Hybrid mode for about for about 9-10 miles by then it's at about 24% and the engine kicks in.

I stay in Hybrid and more than half the time it's doing background charging and some slow bits is back on elec. The final mile I switch to E-MODE and drain it down to about 11-12% by the time I arrive at work and charge.

Usually manage a total of 15-16 miles engine off, mo around 110-180mpg in the summer.

My commute is nearly all single carriageway A road usually averaging about 35mph.

Yes, there is a lot of downhill. By the time I complete the return journey in the winter I'm out of charge. In the summer I might get home with 20% left. I reckon my total electric range on this round trip is 10-12 miles in the winter and 13-14 in the summer.

Since I've got the car I think I've got better at driving more economically. I'm probably annoying my fellow commuters, but I'm pretty gentle on the accelerator these days. It's all 30mph zones anyway so there's not must to get excited about.

I've got to the point that I feel like I've failed when the ICE kicks in. Bloody daft really. Didn't buy this car to turn me into a hypermiler.

I find when you use ESave, e.g. On a motorway so you have battery for later in the journey, the battery recharges again, slowly. When it regens upon slowing/ braking it pockets that charge and then the car computer attempts to hold the new charge level. So battery charge level increases in small increments.

When I'm driving home on the motorway in hybrid mode with the Garmin satnav on, I'll be down to 15-20% battery. It starts to charge the battery when I'm about 20 miles from home, until it has about 30-35%. I switch to e-mode about 3 miles from home (at the end of the 70mph section), or it would keep using the ICE and I'd get home with 20% left.

I suppose it wouldn't do this if the satnav was off. I should check.

New C350e - ride quality and audio system

Have recently taken delivery of a C350e estate as a replacement for a 2014 W212 E300h in AMG trim. The latter car was absolutely marvelous, and I am noticing a big difference between the two cars.

Firstly, the amount of vibration through the steering is a lot more than the E class. This despite the Air Suspension and smaller wheels. The car went back to MB today, with about 2000 miles clocked in three weeks and had the wheels rebalanced, this has helped somewhat but still far more vibration than I would have expected. It seems to get a lot more noticeable at 65 - 70 mph. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this, or whether it's a function of the tyres or suspension setup? The suspension does seem pretty hard, with the comfort / sports switch really making very little difference.

Secondly, tyre pressures. The car was delivered from MB with the front wheels at 290 kPa and the rears at 330 kPa. The manual says 250 and 270? I'm assuming that it was delivered to me with the tyres overpressured?

Thirdly, the Audio 20 system seems really, really sluggish to respond to inputs? Is this normal? And no voice dialing or selecting music via voice input? And the voice inputs on the sat nav are awful to the point of being entirely pointless. The traffic feature on the Garmin Sat Nav also seems woefully inaccurate compared to the COMAND system in the W212.

Finally, the touchpad. This just seems completely unresponsive, with the 2 finger shortcut to the media menu not registering 90% of the time, and attempts to use it to enter numbers failing completely. Seems it can't tell what a number 4 looks like..... Do I need to clean it, or wet my finger? Is a special glove required?

Anyone else experiencing the same issues?

No vibration at all on ours, very smooth. Does sound like there's an issue with yours that needs sorting as it isn't generic to the car.

Suspension, tricky as somewhat subjective I guess. Find ours to be a good balance personally.

Have COMAND so can't comment on the Audio 20, sorry.

Touchpad, hardly use it!

Sorry to hear of your woes. I don't have the vibrations you speak of and I have run my car on both summer and winter tyres. The tyre pressures they have given you are for full load. The ones you quote are for light load. The sticker on the fuel flap will confirm.

I can tell a noticeable difference between the suspension settings. I wonder if yours is locked in hard for some reason?

Audio 20 is not the greatest I'm afraid. Premium Plus would answer the problems you have, but I appreciate that's not very helpful now.

I haven't got to grips with the touchpad! I use the buttons at the back of it to change radio stations, and the star button for favourites.

Same here on the vibration front - I have none.

Comfort suspension is far better than my previous cars over speed bumps and sports isn't bad for cornering.

Yes - Audio 20 is clunky. Slow to start up and slow to switch screens.

I use the voice dialling from my phone and it wouldn't have occurred to me to use it to select music. I'll catch up with the tech eventually...

Never tried voice input on the sat nav. I've not been a fan of live traffic in the past, but the Garmin seems OK.

Never used the touchpad. Always seemed like a crazy idea, TBH.

Hope you resolve some of those issues or figure out work-arounds...

Appreciate your comments. Looks like it's back to the dealers for the third time then..... wish I'd had E220d now. Never mind only another 2 years 11 months ......

Hi blaze591,

I have a saloon but no hint of vibration - quite the opposite, lovely and smooth.

As the Captain says, tyre pressures are on the fuel cap, and there's a bit in the manual about them. I think it says you should expect 30kPa higher from warm than cold.

I've found that the two-finger audio shortcut on the touchpad works much better if you have your fingers apart as you swip up than if you have them together. Other than that I don't use the touchpad much, but then I've had mine 6 months and only just figured out how to get the DAB radio to display the song info, so I'm no genius.

Hope you get your vibration problems solved!

My personal tale of woe is that I'm now into my fourth week of not being able to charge because my 3-pin charging cable just stopped working and there are no replacement units available in this or any other known universe.

Yes sir, it's failed. Yes sir, it's a warranty replacement. No sir, we don't have one in stock. No sir, nor do any of our other dealers. No sir, nor does MB UK. No sir, nor does MB Germany, they're on back order. No sir, we don't have a demo car we could loan it from.

Good job I still have a petrol engine to fall back on or I'd be, literally, stuck.

Costing me money, but more annoyingly it's bringing my long-term mpg right down.

Grrrr.

That's annoying.....there have been a few failures of the bricks haven't there. Poor show there isn't any stock anywhere too. Bit like the charge socket/cable failures, took them ages to sort out supplies of parts.

Good day guys,
I'm looking to buy a 1 year old c350e. What issues should I look for/expect in a vehicle before purchasing?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Mine stopped working due to a wire becoming loose or damaged inside, took a few days to get a replacement after it was confirmed by the dealer, this was in January.

How much do they cost?
