C350e owners club

Hi everyone just wondering,

Does the car read emails out loud? How easy is this to do if possible?

Thank you

That is absolutely shocking. I'm on my second 3 pin unit and charge at least once a day off it, I don't think it will last till the end of the lease either.

They just don't seem to get that for many no charging is just not ok!
Yup, it's appalling. Just hoping the new cable arrives before 2040 or I'll be really stuck.

I dropped in to the dealer this week to chase it up and at least the lady at the parts desk had the good grace to look shocked and say "oh my god, that's terrible!" when the delivery date came up on her screen.

I also had Mercedes Me de-activate all my features last Friday and leave me without traffic updates on the busiest weekend of the year. Dealer reactivated and all ok now, but just wondered if anybody else had this happen to them? System crash or just me being unlucky?

Still loving every minute I spend in the car, just wishing the ownership experience was a bit less niggly.

Had a C350e as a courtesy car yesterday, most disconcerting, didn't know when the engine was on or not.Lovely smooth ride, really nice to drive but I have to assume that all "C" classes drive the same. I don't think it would be my engine of choice.

What did you not like?

I wonder how much the car would cost if they ripped out the engine, gearbox, drive shaft and fuel tank and dropped a bigger battery and some bigger motors into it. If the price was comparable it would be a much better car, but I expect 100kWh of batteries is still quite expensive.

It's probably a bit of a funny car to just throw someone into as a courtesy car. A bit more familiarisation with it and I'm sure you would get used to the power delivery, or choose which power unit (or both) you wanted to use.

The C350e has Airmatic all round as standard. Most C models don't.

Mercedes Me connect is very problematic in my opinion, sometimes it won't let you log in and plays up regularly.

It annoys me that you have some functions in the web app and some in the smartphone app. Both used to cap the mpg at 99.9 (at one point this lowered to 80!) then they fixed this in the smartphone app and now it's capped again!

What annoys me is when I contact them they start doing things like resetting the module on my car without permission rather than just fixing the problem which is clearly unrelated to my car, Mercedes customer service is pretty crap, I found Honda to be better.

It strikes me as an issue due to poor software testing (I work in software)....like the developers have added a limit which is fine for most variants as no others will ever achieve/display more than 100mpg and not considered the c350e though given the charging stuff in their you think they would have.

But the car is awesome as you say, good job too!

It is a bit irritating when they keep reintroducing old bugs isn't it. The new features in the app (that I have discovered so far) are fine, but I'd be happier if the basics were better, like true mpg for example. Still bugs me that the car itself tops out at 99.9mpg, that's just lazy programming when you consider the official mpg for the car is well in excess of 100mpg. On the whole, I do get the impression that the hybrid elements were not well thought out software wise.

I think that's called a Tesla! ;)

I saw a good description of a Tesla S recently, " a £30k car with a £70k battery pack". Probably not far from the truth actually. I'd still have one though.

Like you probably do based on this comment, I wish the C350e had a bigger battery too. Oh, and more than 80bhp of electric power......

It will be interesting to see what MB produce for their next full EV. Can't say the B Class EV really does it for me.

I must declare myself as a happy C350e owner. The car is exactly what I expected (and what I believe Mercedes intended it to be) the perfect tax fiddle! Perhaps that is a little unfair, it was intended to be a good compromise between an EV and a powerful saloon and it is that. It is not particularly economical but from the specification it was obvious that it couldn't be. A 2litre turbo petrol engine producing almost 200bhp but having to carry the batteries is never going to be economical and with an electric range of less than 20miles I knew that I was never going to charge it enough times to get economy that way. However, after almost 40,000 miles it has averaged 40mpg which I think is good and I really use and enjoy the power it offers. I had a Tesla as a company car while I was working on a project. The quality and the ride fall a long way short of the Mercedes and it was really annoying having to plan routes that had charging points available. The model I had was before the software update that tells you if a charging point you are heading for is already in use. Therefore, I had several trips where I arrived at a charging point and it was already hooked up to a car. I often had no choice but to wait for the other car to get fully charged and then wait while my car charged. This often added over an hour to my journeys. The Mercedes plug-in hybrid therefore still gets my vote!

I know these EV cars are coming but I still think they have a long way to go before they are truly practical. Mercedes claim a 250mile range for the EQ SUV (which based on Tesla experience will really be less than 200miles). This just isn't enough. I could not even get to one of my offices and back without a recharge. I certainly could not reach about 50% of my customers and would not be able to do some of my favorite holiday drives without a recharge, or in some cases, multiple recharges. I know we all have to 'refuel' and I also accept that the charge periods are reducing but where is the infrastructure going to come from? As the number of EV's grow there is going to be a demand for dozens of recharge points at hundreds of service locations. Also, who will govern the cost of recharges. At the moment the big oil companies create enough competition to regulate fuel prices. When we are all desperate for an electricity point what will stop the providers charging extortionate rates? :wallbash: I know I am a cynical dinosaur but I haven't heard anything to change my mind so far!

Ah, the Mercedes I-Pace..... In a lot of ways, that body style is perfect for a pure EV from the packaging point of view. Looks OK too.

I think I'd say the 350e does what I expected, but one can always ask for more ;)

Mercedes actually claim a 310 mile range, but they haven't confirmed the battery capacity as far as I can see. There's an argument that you shouldn't be driving 200+ miles without a break, but your point about infrastructure is a good one. Unless there's fast, reliable charging en route or at your destination, EVs are limited use for long distances.

I'm sure that infrastructure will improve as demand increases. With only 1.5% of new cars able to plug in, we need to be patient.

I love the car but am struggling to work out a few things.

1, how do I get the convenience window opening to work. I have held down the unlock button on the key, pressed it several times, stood close to the car etc, but no joy.

2, how do I train the voice recognition system. My Welsh accent is not efficiently recognised.

3, how do I change radio station without leaving the sat nav screen?

I would be grateful for your advice.

Hi Pete,
I too have had a problem with the window opening on my 250d AMG... For the past 2 years.. I just lost interest. I'm sure it's possible but who knows. (I'm waiting for delivery of the 350e by the way hence why I'm here)
Point 2.. blame Brexit [emoji23]
Point 3, I'm pretty sure that if you hit the home button on the steering wheel, the display on your dashboard will list various functions, using the left hand steering wheel controls, the up and down arrows, scroll to radio, press ok and now you should be able to scroll through your radio stations via your dash board using the up and down arrows. Press ok when you're happy and voila...[emoji106]

I think the convenience closing works from the door handle, not the fob.

Not sure on voice training. I find it either works first time or ties itself in a knot.

Radio stations. If you set your favourites up first you can then press the middle button on the back of the touchpad and you will get a small screen displaying them at the bottom of the map. You can rotate left and right through them with the selector wheel.

Hi Wrighty, You've done 40k miles, I seem to remember you ripped through your 1st set of tyres after about 8k, hah, hah. That means you might be on or about to boot up your C350e with a 5th set! Any views on tyre choice, ie performance, comfort, noise? Or have you just stuck with the same make? Good thoughts, btw.

Re: 1, I can close everything i.e Windows and sunroof by pressing and holding the close button on the key fob. Not tried the reverse to open everything, prefer to set the air con using the remote app, meaning I step into a nicely cooled car after work!
2/ I know it can be done but not sure how as never attempted.
3/ I have just a few presets on the radio, then when in the nav screen you can press the little dimple at the back of the touch pad which brings a pop up, from which you can swipe left or right to scroll through your presets, useful for iPod or streaming music to identify and skip tracks also.

I know this isn't specific to our model, and no doubt it's common knowledge anyway, but as it happened in our 350e, I may as well post it here...

Driving in Worcester yesterday, just approaching the Cathedral and up pops a massive 3D image of it on the sat nav screen. Pointless really, but a nice touch.
