C350e owners club

First long run today of about 180 miles. Left with little charge and used hybrid with nothing left when I got there. Used charge to 100% then e save to a colleagues house 8 miles from home. Did the last 8 in e mode and arrived with 6 miles left. Mpg for the day 40.2 - impressive for a 2 litre turbo petrol with great performance

So update, after the battery malfunction warning light yesterday, rang local garage and they advised not to drive it...

So call to lease company, one nice AA man whose computer wouldn't talk to the car, a drive to the garage and I'm now c350e-less :( . Twiddling thumbs awaiting a diagnosis...
Not good, I feel your pain!

Have done a few hundred miles this week. Was a bit nervous over the cost of fuel.
Yesterday I did Borehamwood (Herts) to just outside of chester, then onto warrington and back home. 400 mile round trip. Cruising mostly at 75ish, with a few heavy foot episodes (just cant be helped!!!) and stopped each way for about 20 minutes at services which I spent charging.

It is so lovely to drive, economy was about 44mpg and I got home with the last light on the fuel gauge flashing.

Although I am still not happy with the fact that the most miles showing on full charge is 16, at least I now know that on a journey like that my mileage expense will cover the cost of the fuel.

The other great thing about having this car is that you get to pack to close to the entrance of the service station!!!!!

There is a way....

The other contractor has either left the planet or gone ski-ing. He thought that OLEV would object to the cemented-in sturdy wooden post.

Well it seems to be coming good! This contractor has got permission from OLEV for the PodPoint to be mounted on my wooden post and is going to fit it with the mandatory safeguards (but without the unnecessary ones demanded by the other contractor) for the cost to me of £260 VAT incl - about half the quotation of the other lot.

Now all I need is a C350e to plug it into.

Rapid / Normal Charging

I've owned a C350e since last July and I've had an ongoing debate with Mercedes with regard to plug-in charging speeds as the garages I visited prior to the purchase confirmed that I could use motorway services to achieve a Rapid Charge so as to achieve 100% over a 20 minute break whilst I stop for a coffee and they also confirmed that MB's charging system was the same as other plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Mercedes Customer Assistance Manager has confirmed the following statements :-

'Mercedes-Benz vehicles do not support “Rapid Charging”. Some of our vehicles support “fast charging” via a wall box at 16A, which will be faster than a 13A domestic supply'

'All charging points with the “Type 2” connector are capable of charging the C 350e. The maximum we can charge a C 350e at is 16A, 3.7 Kw which would probably be considered as “normal charging”. “Fast Charging” is generally considered over 7Kw and “Rapid Charging” is considered at power ratings of 22kw and over. We can plug in a 22Kw Charger, or even a 43kw Charger which is what the Ecotricity points are, but the maximum we will charge at is 3.7Kw'

I have recently checked Mercedes facts with three local garages as a new car enquiry and each sales executive told me different facts which all equated to the vehicle providing rapid charging whilst taking coffee breaks. The truth is that if you were to try using a 3.7Kw charge it would take considerably more than 20 minutes to achieve a 100% charge as the Ecotricity charging stations state 'NORMAL CHARGE' once it is connected to the C350e. I parked along side a Mitsubishi Outlander (plug-in hybrid) last week at a Ecotricity charging station and the vehicle owner showed me the display reading RAPID on the charging station whilst he was charging and said that he achieved 100% charge in 30 mins as he believed the Mitsubishi allows 43KW connectivity. My charging point displayed 'NORMAL' charge, but unfortunately would not permit a charge as the charging station stated it was waiting for a reply from the vehicle.

Mercedes Strategic Manager has also confirmed the following :-

'Mercedes had only designed the Plug-In Hybrids for 'trickle charge' as the battery life could not handle the rapid charge current levels used at the UK charging stations. None of the Mercedes current plug-in hybrids, or new models, will be installed with the Rapid Charge ability as Mercedes require approx. three years of further development before the rapid charge technology on Mercedes vehicles will be available'

It is interesting to consider why Mercedes don’t notified potential buyers that the rapid charge function was not designed or available. It's also interesting to note that when I took delivery of the C350e my local dealer explained the rapid charge ability during the handover of the vehicle as I could use motorway services for a rapid charge whilst taking a break. :dk:

They did, but not in the sales brochure. This information would have come from a well-informed salesperson who had read and remembered the briefing documentation:

Search for MB document "NNID - 2429 Attachment 1 Sport Product Guide" It's dated about March 2015 and still shows the Drive Mode selector as "Agility" not "Dynamic". This describes the two charging modes: Mode 2 at 8A taking approx. 4 hours, and Mode 3 at 16A taking about 2 hours.

How much charge did you get in 20 mins?

Ref: Rapid / normal charging

Sounds like a 'VW' situation on a smaller scale.

Buyers would be covered under Mis-sale of goods Act

Compensation perhaps?..

Company car drivers.... Thoughts????

Promised pictures from the trip to Germany to pick up the car.
As promised here it is.
Sindelfingen just outside Stuttgart, Mercedes largest plant.
Factory tour was just amazing, they know their logistics :-)
Hope you like it.

Update on my charging problem.
Identified as corroded cable due to water ingress in socket. Cable on order but nil stock in UK or Germany... 2-3wk estimate :(

Sounds like yours jp350e

Sounds like a design flaw IMHO

Heater Booster failure

Have you had any issues where after charging, the battery is still flat or not fully charged and the dash displays "malfunction" with the red battery symbol ?

Heater Booster Failure - is this linked to high voltage short circuit ?

By the way, I've been told today by my lease company, not by MB, by lease company, that there is a shipment of parts coming into the MB UK warehouse before the end of this week. This will then be distributed around dealerships next week. Once they receive it, heater booster will be fitted and car returned so should have it back after 3.5 to 4 weeks. MB don't want to talk to me direct about it because they do not see me as the customer because the car is owned by the lease company.....I am just the company car end user who puts the petrol in and pays the tax....strange that ! I just hope they have sorted the high voltage short circuit out that caused them to recover it in the first place.

I'm not sure Mercedes are interested in Sale Of Goods Act as Mercedes Customer Assistance Manager has decided not to reply to any more of my emails with regard to vehicle performance or operational queries as Mercedes do not see me as the customer as they have referred the 'point of sale' responsibility with the leasing company.
It's an interesting view to take, apart from the fact the leasing company only had the C350e specification available at the 'point of sale' which was published on Mercedes website! - Complete and utter frustration with Mercedes Customer Assistance department as it's the worst customer experience I've ever encountered considering they deal with customer enquires / complaints!:fail

I understand your frustration but under contract law they are correct. Their customer is your lease company. When things are in danger of getting 'legal' all suppliers will refuse to 'talk' to anyone other than the legal representative of the customer.

Mercedes-Benz Norway say that Mercedes Me will be available in Norway late February! But they say it will only be available on cars produced in December 2015 and later. I got my C350e in November, and when I asked if that means that Mercedes Me will NOT be available for me, the reply was "Yes"!
Is this really true? When I bought the car the dealer promised that it would be available in the beginning of 2016.

Interested in how you have managed to get water into the socket.... I noticed this morning when opening the boot of my estate that water channelles down into where the home charger cable was plugged into the car. I don't think any water got past the cable but I don't how well sealed it is when open and charging...
