C350e owners club

My conclusion is that it doesn't even out - uphill costs more range than downhill recuperates. I got 15 miles electric from 16 claimed, by using the electric on downhill and flat sections and putting the car in e-save for the uphill bits. There was a little sailing but not much, and anyway I'm wondering if the range calculation assumes some sailing.

Good tip. I will move car out of e-mode into e-save for the hills on my home-school-office run and see how that works out. Going up the biggest hill which is probably a 20% gradient for 300-400 yards sucks around 15% of the battery alone

HUD anyone?

Anyone got the HUD? From the description in the brochure it would appear that the info displayed is a bit paltry. Is it worth the extra £825? Views please. (Also asked on the other thread)

Hills make a big difference and I am thinking temperature does also. 2 scenarios this week both on a full charge and car heated up using preheat. Car in E-mode.

Home-school-office (7 miles including several hills one of which is very steep) - I get to the office with no miles remaining and showing 30%ish charge.

Manchester City Centre-Home (14 miles quite flat with mixture of 20-30-40-50-Motorway) - driving very carefully, judging traffic flow etc, I made it all the way on electric only save a few hundred yards towards the end when it flipped back into hybrid and he engine fired up briefly a couple of times. Impressive I thought.

Overall since Rolec installation on Monday I am showing 154 miles completed @ 88mpg.

I am hoping the battery improves as we head into spring/summer as I really love this car but had based my 'business case' on a better electric range. I was thinking of replacing my 2014 5-series with either the new E350e or the GLC350e but maybe the battery technology needs to move on a little more first....

I had a Lexus CT200h previously and would see 10 to 15% difference in mpg between summer and winter. Not sure how the battery heating / cooling systems differ though. Remember that running the A/C and low tyre pressures can affect significantly too.

Ordered!

Hi all

I have just ordered the c350e sport premium. I have a few questions that the (useless!) dealer could not answer and hopefully one or two of you may be able to provide the answers;

1. Is the full power (i.e 290 bhp ish) always available?
2. Does the car come with carpet floor mats?

I am sure I may have other questions but those immediately came to mind.

Many thanks

James

Hi James

Congratulations :-)

The full power would be available to the driver via a simple "IF +AND" logic! There is a "Sport+" Driving Mode available to choose from a menu in order to extract the maximum power of the Hybrid Engine if the HV Battery is sufficiently charged to boost (assist) the ICE engine.

I asked the dealer to provide me with matching colour mats (carpet) and they did. I heard that it might be an option to order but as a preemptive measure I asked and I got it!

You'd love your new toy :thumb:

Mine is the same specification as yours- really good choice :D

Yes have the HUD. I agree it is very expensive speedometer. I find it particularly useful for reminding me of current speed limit - although I believe it also requires one of the other options. It also shows cruise control speed and limited speed if either set. Can also show navigation directions. Very clear in all conditions. Obvious without being intrusive. Projects on to windscreen rather than separate glass. I am glad I went for it.

Thanks very much. I have added HUD to the almost complete package on order. Only lacking the privacy glass now. I find it difficult enough to see out of my present car at night as it is without making it more difficult. Personal choice so no criticism of those who have chosen it.

I was told (and my experience seems to back this) that there is always battery power in reserve to ensure if you 'give it the beans' it has the full 290ish bhp available.

My car came with mats but they were arranged by the excellent Parts Manager at Chelmsford MB so I'm not sure if was the dealer looking after me or part of the purchase.

Hi guys, very lucky indeed to of placed an order last week , to get a cancelled order that will be delivered by end of March!!
I have read through lots of treads re the car recently and know quite a lot, but what isn't clear to me is when the car is in full Electric mode, does it produce the full 290 odd hp and the same performance as you get in hybrid, or does it reduce the power available?

Only an assumption as not got my car yet - But full electric mode would only use the Batteries available 82ps...

Personally would think this fine for town driving etc and traffic lights... But meh, not got mine yet, a few weeks to go! wohoooo!

For all those with the car, have you turned off traction/stability etc. and had a play on a wet roundabout ? I'm guessing the extra rearward weight aids traction.

I'm not encouraging such behaviour ;) ... but just wondered if anyone has had a play ?

Thanks in advance ....

Ahaaa, finally found the online manual describing the operating modes - been looking for that for ages!
It doesn't say much but basically states that electric only = no engine, and therefore no extra HP - until you press pass the haptic pedal and engage the engine.

Do you have the link to the online manual ?

Would make interesting reading in advance of getting the car.

Its a bit of a pig hunting through it as it is a generic c-class one with the odd Plugin Hybrid reference. So worth using the search. (Operating Modes for example)

C-Class - Interactive Owner's Manual
I strongly recommend the Mercedes App if you have a smartphone or tablet. You can select and download the full C Class manual but with links and browser-style controls so you can jump about and find things rather more easily than a linear manual.

I do not think the stability control can be switched off fully (unless anyone knows better). I love RWD cars and fancy myself as a frustrated drifter but so far I have found that the rear comes round rather more quickly than I would like. I think the torque from the electric motor lights up the rear wheels too easily and then it is almost impossible to get any power balance before the internal electronic fun police cut in and the power is cut.

Thanks for that.

Sounds like I need to verify your findings when my car arrives next week ;) ... I was hoping for a nice gentle power induced over steer when exiting roundabouts.

NEW QUESTION - I was completely stationery the other day (I travel a lot on the M25!!) so I thought I would look at the internet on the screen. I went through the phone/internet menu and put in a www. address but got a message that the service was temporarily unavailable.
I assume it is all done through your Bluetooth linked phone. I checked that the phone was connected (it was) but the screen display showed it as 'off-line'.
Has anyone found a way of connecting to the internet?
Thanks

I see you have owned a Porsche and you're still alive so drifting out of a roundabout will be a piece of cake for you!
