C350e owners club

I'm still struggling to get public charge point in the NCPs in Croydon to work ... not yet managed to get them to start charging using the Polar Instant App on the phone.

Still, I should have the Source London RFID card arrive today/tomorrow (fingers crossed) ... then I can charge at both ends of my 22 mile commute :D

I've not quite got to grips with favorites yet :| - probably should investigate at some point.
:P

A couple of things you may not have come across yet :-

It took me some time to find how easy it is to select a preset radio station. In my CLS it was as simple as pressing one of the 'telephone pad' buttons so I was lost in the C Class. I read the manual and found the middle button at the back of the 'handset' - it displays in the bottom of the screen your radio presets and you can scroll through them and see what they are playing and select one.

The dealers call them Curry Hooks - the clip on the right hand side of the boot is ideal for hanging a curry from !!!

When the summer comes it makes me smile when you have the sunroof open and approach a tunnel (on the M25 in my case) the roof closes and re-opens when you exit. Also, if you leave the roof open when parked and it rains it closes (check it with a hose first).

I have had headlamp washers on my last 8 cars - not on the C Class. I am amazed that there is not much 'noise' about this on forum. That said, I haven't found a need to clean the lights so how scary is that !

The 360 (and I think the standard reversing) camera sits behind a cover which slides open, rather than being exposed above the number plate as on other cars. Never had to clean the camera and even if the rear is iced up the camera is clear.

You can add speed camera locations into the Comand map very easily and for about £ 25 / year get very regular updates. The audio notice of a camera mutes the sound but it is a bit late if you are well over the limit.

I hope you continue to enjoy it - I have had 2 CLK's, a Lexus 450h, E Class Coupe 350 CDi, CLS 350CDi all from new and the C350e is up there with the Lexus in terms of quality and acceleration. I switched from the CLS as it was becoming a pain to park as a result of its and my width. I miss the CLS for looks but nothing else as the C Class is miles ahead in technology. This won't help you, but the Road Pilot / Distronic Plus is amazing - in the stop go traffic on the M25 it is much more restful to let the car drive itself - I would not have another car without it.

Thank you so much Wivenhoe, its comments like these that keep the 'us' not in the know in the know and any previous history and experience is priceless :)

Always intruiged about lexus - as TopGear used to say, they are cars that you should never own, but always want to :P - I'm sure they have changed a lot, but other cars always seem more accessible so to speak.

talking of the camera, you are right, i've seen the option in settings (no idea where, was a lucky find) to open the shutter to allow cleaning! Its there somewhere!

So agree with the curry hook. I currently have my 3 way power adaptor bag hanging of it :) - ish they had found a room under the boot top to velcro it!

As it is also a lease car i have a first aid thing (On top of what came with the car) - and that velcros to the back seats well... That along with 3 suitcases (not massive ones to be fair) - and i'm actually not appalled with the boot space so far. I'm sure there will be times when i need more, but Back seat boot works pretty well :)

2 colleagues at work are getting the BMW 330e soon, and have both been in mine. They would have chosen the Merc had the 330e quote system not have been wrong, so they got £40 a month better off, with a similar spec. (it is now £80 per month more!) - and they were v happy.

Tis my first merc, and despite driving company cars 10+ years ago, is also by a long long way the most comfortable. It is a dream to be in it, and ignoring Mr Jerk (As sports+ mode is now known, due to gear changes), it really cant falter on the drive.

Well done Mercedes!

Strange though as having owned a golf etc, i always thought the drive was good. Looking back, the seating position was slightly turned, and no way near is comfortable, or is that just me getting older?!

odd one on the Headlamp washers, not sure i noticed them missing nor worry? i say that as i wash it every few weeks, or will do at least, but mainly as well, i've owned so many without and never worried.
More concerned that linksgs like adaptive cruise control aren't standard. Thats a big faux pas...

Made up for, in a big way by the seats, positioning, speed, comfort and design... (Ignoring teh fact my passenger door is now out of alignment and needs to go back again, after MB fixed the door not shutting properly!) :P

Well my car has arrived. Had I not cracked my phones camera yesterday i'd show pics (so will get some tomorrow).... I'm a bit confused and miffed after the first drives, its partially great and well, partially not so great, so far.

The car turned up dirty as expected. (back of a trailer from Newcastle to Worthing would do that..) And of course you don't get the garage hand over from a delivery driver, so was left a little blind in how to use the abundance of settings etc.

I've figured out the modes etc, and the drive is wonderful. Please bear in mind my comparisons will be against the Mk7 VW gold GTD that i've just handed back, and so far, the golf is on top... Due to absolute simplicity. The C350e seems so far, to be missing some absolutely basics that came on the GTD. (A car under 2 thirds of the price).

Ok, it might be a bit harsh, but i'll put a few of my ramblings down and hoping most if not all or sortable or a mistake on my behalf.

1) Parking sensors? - surely this is at standard? - yes the reverse camera works, and there is a piddly little display with a yellow line. But no audible noises at all, and nothing to indicate how far away you are at all?

2) Cruise control... Please please tell me this thing can brake when it sees a car in front? I have to admit, the website/builder/guides etc, for the car so useless in telling you what all the optional extras and things do, that i couldn't actually figure out at the time if this was standard or part of that expensive extra. Essentially i got a basic cruise control working by luck (no idea how it turned on yet!) - the stick on the left of the wheel seems to have a mind of its own. But no radar or equivalent, and no auto speed adjustments to the car in front. (I just have the premium plus pack with dark windows... so guessing i mis-specced a vital and obvious function?!). Urghhh! Frustrating.

3) whilst not so difficult to use generally, it is seriously missing the touch screen of other simpler cars. The mouse control thing is ok'ish, but not common sense.
The menu hides everything, and by going to settings i would expect to see an audio settings menu, etc etc, but nooo thats hidden in some stupid symbol on either the radio or media symbol? - i eventually found a basic menu with the treble / bass etc, but well, not much in there. (Should i turn on surround sound - really unsure if it was beneficial or not?)

4) The help menu / manual. This is seriously slow, and well, again finding things is quite painful. As i've had all of the above i tried it, and well it takes so long to find any useful information, it might as not be there. (I mean i want to find parking noises / beeps / acoustics, and it spurts about parktronic, or assist this, assist that? - urm... i want to know how to turn the blips and bleeps on?! The voice control takes forever to loop through its options, but well, none of them where what i wanted, and well... i have a feeling that one will never get used again.

5) - why does it display kmph on the screen? i want mph! I have selected mph in the fiddly settings somewhere (no idea how to get back there)
I would love to customise the trip screen so i could see the energy usage, the current speed and some more info, but i think most cars these days dont let you and only show you one bit of info at a time.

Ok, there are some great things, the seat memories, the drive comfort, the electric engine (so far). The fuel consumption was about 13.9 after mainly driving in charge so i could charge it up enough to show the missus the silence... hoping that improves somewhat on the 60mile return trip tonight - in hybrid :)

It picked up the 32gb on the meomry card straight away, and the sound is ... hmmm average.. I'm most definitley not an audiophile, but was expecting some burmeister magic... (Ooops, expectations again).

The car looks stunning, paint / seats are all great and i'm hoping the other issues will fade away soon.

As i said, hoping these are just ramblings, and the good will out-weigh the bad eventually. Will update after the drive later - off to the cotswolds tomorrow for the weekend. Lets see how she goes! :)

Any help or support with the above issues are appreciated! (First one to agree with me mis-speccing the cruise control options gets a snarl from me :P - and mercedes will get a wtf and a sigh....)

edit - no temperature show... bahhhhh....
Not sure if the displayed speed in KMPH you are talking about is the one on the screen between the speedometer and rev counter. If it is... Then you can change it to MPH by pressing the home button on the steering wheel, scroll down to settings, then scroll to instrument cluster, and the choose MPH

I've been driving the new C class for a year or so and only recently found that the whilst in stop/start traffic I would spend a lot of time with my foot on the brake. By applying a firm press on the brake pedal the word "hold" appears and the brake automatically applies. A tap on the accelerator and you are off again. Great for hill starts too.

Most probably know this already??

More of these must be arriving everyday. I saw two 16 plates on a cross country journey today. One in a version of silver looked very nice.

Noobmonkey

Always intruiged about lexus - as TopGear used to say, they are cars that you should never own, but always want to :P - I'm sure they have changed a lot, but other cars always seem more accessible so to speak.

I had the GS 450h and it was a dream - they never sold it as an environmentally friendly hybrid, just a high performance hybrid. 0 to 60 was 5.7s and official mpg was 35mpg - I struggled to achieve it !. Not a shade on BMW or Merc for handling but sublimely comfortable and reliable. I kept it for 3 years and only got rid because the boot was tiny due to the batteries and they were about to remove it from exclusion of the Congestion Charge so the residual would melt. I sold it with 40k on it and got £ 20k after paying £ 40k 3 years previously - the best residual I have ever achieved. I would have another Lexus but a comparable GS toyed up as my C350e would have been £ 15k more and horrid tax

Mines all ready now, unfortunately I missed the call today to arrange date and time for delivery, will call first thing tomorrow..

Command ONLINE TV media interface missing

Media TV interface?

Does anyone know how to get the TV in Command ONLINE working - there are references to it, a digital TV (DVB-T) in the media menu you get by pressing the media button twice. I can see all of the other media sources include DVD, USB, BlueTooth etc and they all work, but absolutely no TV option listed at all - was this an optional extra I missed? (Have the sport premium plus with driving assistance and surround camera).

Why would I want - well it only operates according to manual less than 5mph for safety reasons obviously, but would love to watch telly when waiting for "things", son, Chippy, school busses etc

Thanks in advance
Chris

Can I have some help please!

I don't know what I've pressed but every time I get in the car both heated seats are on. I haven't activated preheating on my phone

Any ideas?

Rob

There is a setting to activate preheat upon key unlock.

I think it's in the air con settings on the centre screen from memory

Connect Me

Hi All, long time lurker, after 6 months finally got my new toy yesterday and I love it. But Inchcape fleet won't activate connect me, data protection blah blah blah.

Has anybody had any luck getting it activated through them. Or is my only option to try a dealer, obviously I don't have the log book!

Thanks for any ideas!

I think our company policy is after 10AM any car can park in the bays.

To be fair, the charging station plugs into the rear of the car, and look how much room he has to get out.

I recognise that car park!
Make that another one from June......only once a week in the office on average though.
Someone must be able to get hold of figures for the numbers of EV & PHEV's ordered and maybe we could ask for some more charge points??
Could be wishful thinking though.
