C350e owners club

I still stand by my comment that the only reason to buy this car is for the BIK savings, if you're after MPG get a diesel.

There are other reasons. 95% of my journeys are from just outside Cambridge, into Cambridge. I can charge at work, and there are places to charge in town. I'm anticipating buying much less fuel than I do now.

Patterns of use have a lot to do with reasons to buy cars of this sort, as do factors like not wanting to run two cars to start getting into the EV world, BMW not making a 330e estate, most hybrids not being "lookers", etc etc.

So not the only reason, I would contend.

Fair enough, if you do a lot of pure electric miles and have access to free electricity. My crude calculations are that a full charge at home costs 85p and yields around 10 miles of real world range, which would be equivalent to a 55mpg ICE car.

I think the future of these type of cars has to be pure EV (à la Tesla) which can mitigate weight of the batteries by having no ICE, no driveshafts, gearbox etc. Along with a good network of free and fast charge points.

My electricity will be semi-free, but it's a fair point.

However, since I'm only getting around 17mpg at the moment (on the basis that I've never met a 55mpg ICE car I wanted to drive, and "oh, look, a V10!") I'll still be quids in fuel-wise, and being considerably nicer to Cambridge with it. It's probably about time...

I think there are plenty of other reasons to buy this car. Financials didn't play a role in mine really (only that I couldn't afford a Tesla).
I bought it because I like the tech and gadgets on it and the fact that I can silently sneak around town if I wanted to.

Back to the same charging bay as last time. This one's a bit trickier. Van covering both bays completely! Doh!

It wasn't too bad, called the number on the van. The team said they'd get hold of the driver. Waited 20 mins. Went to the shop and they put a tannin announcement out. 10 mins later driver turned up. He was fine and was v interested in the car :) but yes. Can totally feel for a pure ev driver in that situation.
On the way back was tailed by a stunning black c63 :) won't say at what speed. But he didn't break a sweat ;)

Having had my car off the road for four weeks and thinking it was fixed last week, today I have been told I am going to be the proud new owner of a .... new GEARBOX!!! and of course as the car is so new, there aren't any available.

The wait now starts!!

(and before you ask, I am not allowed to reject the vehicle as the lease company need to give Merc a chance to fix the car)

I have a black c350e premium saloon since February and I was wondering if any other owners could tell me whether their rear blowers have the same power of airflow as the front ones. Mine seem to have very little airflow. Also my Consumption gauge only goes unto 60mpg, has anybody else come across this and resolved? I have read that everyones else seems to go unto 99mpg.

The consumption gauge Definitley goes up to 99. Sounds like it needs looking at.

The motorways were really quiet when I did that trip so I genuinely was able to set the cruise to 75 for pretty much the whole way. I may have had the occasional blip up to 80 leptons ish but I really was using it as an experiment to drive normally, i.e. not being a compete eco freak and driving at 56mph, and certainly not being a boy racer either.

My point is that, driven in the same way, a C250 diesel would be significantly more fuel efficient. I hope this doesn't put a downer on prospective owners, it's still a lovely car :) I'm just surprised that cutting edge PHEV with a claimed 134.5mpg has such a disparity in real world economy.

Totally with you... Had a plug in Volvo for a while last year, the straight diseasal version was better overall for mileage returns. It's a shame the battery pack doesn't slide out the 350 for long runs as they do seem a little pointless at times.

Anyone wanting the best economy needs to look at Idriveaf**kingprius.com, instead of kidding themselves that the 350 Defies the laws of physics.. :D

I know which one I'd rather drive and it's turning up on Friday :thumb:

The instantaneous mpg gauge does only go up to 60mpg. While the trip meter goes up to 99.9. The moving gauge really annoys me, why not have a number? So much easier to read.

There is also a last 15min screen on the vehicle settings section of the comand screen

Some merit in that idea but it does weigh 100kg and is water cooled so that would bring complications.

However, the notion of exchangeable battery packs has been mooted as a way of extending the range of EVs. Drive into the service station, have a coffee and loo break while your depleted battery pack is exchanged for a full one and off you go. Not to my liking and what about international driving etc? I think we'll have nuclear fuel cells before interchangeable battery packs could be workable.

Picking mine up this PM. :D

Exchangeable battery packs is something Tesla have already "invented". Takes about 3 minutes and is all done by robots. Pretty neat stuff. There is a video on YouTube demonstrating the tech.

GOT IT! A whole month before initial predictions. After a 2hr40 marathon of signing papers and being instructed with wife/navigator about the car by salesman we drove home through the rush hour punch drunk! Lovely...

We're already C-class veterans but this is going to be different. Only comment so far about earlier topics is that both charging cables work as they should. The 13A domestic cable charges at 12.3A (measured) with insignificant heating of the plug or cable. I'll reserve any further findings about fuel consumption and computer glitches until I've got useful data. Outside air temperature working fine. This could be a nice relationship.
