C350e owners club

I did a 300mile round trip today to Hull from Northampton (A43/A1/A15 & M180/M18/M1). Got 44.8mpg in Eco/Hybrid modes; starting the journey with 20% charge and a steady 70mph. Decent enough but I did get 45mpg easily at 80mph with my C250 coupe.

I've also noticed that on my 70mile journey to the office I get 45ish mpg with the same conditions as above, 55ish if the battery if fully charged and 35ish when using charge mode. So all in all, if I use charge and e-save mode on the way there and hybrid with a full charge on the way back I average the same 45mpg as not bothering and just sticking it in hybrid. Unfortunately I can't charge at home or the office but I can seen how a charge here and there where possible will easily bump up the figures.

Good job I'm quite happy to cope with mainly sticking at 70mph in return for the savings in tax :-D

...mmm! That's very useful and interesting data. I can now contribute my own long distance data and it is not as good as Weller's.

Did a 600 mile round trip over the W/E Exeter to Haslingden (Bury) and back. The outward drive M5/M6 etc was a typical Friday PM nightmare and took six hours. Averaged 38.6mpg and 43 mph.

No chance to recharge during the week-end.

Home run on Sunday PM was only four-and-a-half hours averaging 39.7mpg and 58mph.

I go a bit quicker than Weller at 75mph using Distronic (which I am learning to love). I tried the ECO setting outbound but on the home run initially I used Comfort and "Charge", then "ESave" and finally, when within 11 miles, used "EMode" to deplete the battery ready for a re-charge at home. This last technique gave a noticeable increase in the mpg figure up to 39.7 even after about 250 miles.

Other discoveries: 360° Camera, Active Steering Assist, HUD are all great.
Active Lane Keeping Assist is useless. Keyless-Go! is a waste of time - especially in view of the stories about thefts from cars that have it.

There'll be more after my upcoming 2100 mile round trip to Italy and back during which I'll have plenty of time to try to replicate Weller's figures.

BTW, around town where I live when I do domestic trips here and there I see 90+ mpg all the time when I can recharge at home frequently. But I don't log the electricity used and convert the data back to the equivalent in petrol usage. That would ruin the picture!

Anyone have an issue with reverse.

I find it very slow to move backward.

When parallel parking its not a major issue as I reverse slow and its on battery.

However when I'm doing a 3 point turn I use a bit more gas and the engine fires up.

I'm always wheel spinning it in reverse when the engine comes on. Not a major issue just look silly in public.

Picked this up on twitter at the weekend. Will be getting back in touch with my local garage as when I asked them about any updated software to fix the outside temperature display, they knew nothing about it...

I got in touch with Mercedes UK through Twitter and they told me about the software update which could be done at my local dealer. I recently took it in for its 15000 mile service and told them about the software update which they knew nothing about, but then later told me it would be done with the service. On picking the car up, I was informed that there isn't an update available! I told them I was told by Mercedes there was an update but again they said they had checked and there wasn't one. So back to Twitter to explain what happened and asked them to confirm with me and to tell the dealer, I'm still waiting for contact from them at this time.

It makes you wonder who knows what when someone says there was a display software fault on a batch of cars when it clearly says in the owners manual that the outside temperature display is not available on UK C350e cars.

Not true. After you have struggled through pages 275 & 277 to page 292 of this dreadful manual, you arrive at the sub-section labelled "Selecting Permanent Display".

It is the "Permanent Display" (printed in pale blue) option that is not available in the UK. Try finding it in the Multi-function Display. It's not there.

The OAT has always been available in my car but only in one display of the MFD; this is in the "Trip" screen showing Total Miles and miles since trip reset. And it's at the bottom right of the screen, not bottom left. Slightly irritating that it's not permanently displayed, but how often do I need to know it? There's enough information to clutter the displays (and my brain) as it is!

Also, it's only available when the car is not started isn't it?

Charging question....

So in the car you get set 8,10,13 or maximum for the amps.

Why does it then also have a button on the 3-pin charger box that also seems to toggle between 8A and 13A?

My charge box is inside a weatherproof box where the extension lead outlet is also safely inside.

As I am using an extension, I have gone for the safer option of not pressing this button so my vehicle charges at 8A which produces no warmth on the cabling.

When we tried 13A on my colleagues vehicle the cable from the socket to the box did get pretty warm, though not dangerously so.

I tried the extension lead (Halfords) fully extended from an inside socket for a week.

It takes a lot longer on the slower 2 dot 8A charge. I used to switch it to 13A. However I did notice that the extension cable did get hot and the plug inside the house was very hot too. Not melting but it was getting worse the more times I used it.

It was only going to get worse in summer. I have now fitted a double weatherproof socket for around £60 from an electrician.

Much better than checking on the extension every 15-20 mins for heat.

I have the 4m coiled extension, whose tension is very worrying when stretching past 2m so I need the extension, I can live with the 8A charge, I have a metal RCD equipped socket in my outside cupboard that it's plugged into, I was trying to get my head around why MB doubled up on the amps control.

The OaT is available at all times in the Trip screen.

Mine came with this enabled.

Mine says the temp when it's off in the bottom right, when on it says "Trip" which I feel is a bit unnecessary, am I missing where this is turned on? Either in a not finding it way or it not being on my software version??

Was just not worth the risk with the lead and plug getting so hot inside for the sake of £60.

Also looking out for rain and winding up the extension lead every day was a real pain for just 16 miles max which ends up being 9 after driving like Miss Daisy :(

I am pleased (possibly smug) that I went for the 8m cables and that I have a 16amp charge point at home. I use the 13amp cable at work in our underground car park (dry).

I got the 8m offered as there was no 4m cables left during my build. Very useful and no extensions needed. Still using it while my power company pull a digit out of their posterior over my outside charger

The weatherproof box leaves me confident enough in the rain especially as the charge pack sits inside that too.

We're getting 2x Type 2's and 2x 3-pins at work hopefully and i'm almost always the first PHEV driver in so i'll be grabbing a Type 2 and leaving the extension box setup at home.
