What is wrong with the Boxster... and don't give me all that poor mans Porsche rubbish? I know a few people with Boxster's that could quite easily have afforded a 911, but the Boxster suited their wants and needs better.

You are soooo wrong here.
As for the M3, well i've yet to find one that can keep up when the throttle is floored. The C55 is rarer and doesnt have the stigma associated with an M3 either. If it was purely for a track car I may pick an M3, otherwise I think Howards comments a few months back summed it up for me....

sorry your soooo wrong . Evo car review say . Perhaps mercedes would accept that amg has more in common with alpine than the m division, but that won't help the c55 instead of trying to attract the ten people currently in an m3 mercedes has gone for that single soul in his c32 he will be very happy because for him the c 55 is a truly great car but it no m3 beater.

Wouldn't dream of buying it, give no credence to opinions published in it.
On our crowded roads driving an M3 to get the best out of it is lunacy. An AMG is far better suited to everyday driving.

I'm not on obsessed with the m3 it was alfie saying the c55 better than the m3 which it clearly not( ref evo car review) I said all along out of the 3,options the boxster the one to go for iam only trying to help the guy out !!!
The C55 is clearly better than the M3 (ref a dozen or so threads on this forum posted by people who have owned both cars and whose opinion I trust).

C55; More torque, more power, more refined, more subtle, faster, doesnt look like an estate agents car, better built, doesnt have suspension that collapses part way through its life, not available in horrid colours like mustard yellow and of course doesnt sound like the skeleton.......
Given that it is also a much more useable car than an M3 (granted not on a track) it doesnt take a genuis to work out which is the better all round car.

I'm sorry but you seem incapable of:
a) making a decision for yourself
b) stringing an intelligible sentence together
if you have actually driven any of the cars referred to then by all means state the fact and then explain why you think one is better than the other, if you haven't then nobody can take your assertions seriously.
Back to the OP's original post, just to throw a spanner in the works, have you considered a Cayman S? I've driven one of these and it was quite magical, I'd often thought that reviewers on TV and in various mags were talking complete bo!!ocks when saying how they felt 'connected' with the car, the road etc, but that is exactly how I felt when driving the Cayman, it was brilliant. This was the 3.2 version by the way, and i'm sure being that it is effectively the coupe version of the Boxster it must be a bit tighter to drive, sorry, haven't driven a Boxster so can't compare, however Evo say...

ok if it makes everybody happy amg cars are the best much better than bmw m cars , topgear , evo , whatcar ( rate s class better than rollsroyce phantom) are all wrong . What do they know there only sell/ watch by millions everweek .experts in what they do and get paid for it.

The Cayman is out of my range at the moment, I like the E46 M3 but not enough to buy one, the E90 is a different story but too expensive, I do search for the 335i Sport a lot, but not completely sold on it, also I wanted something pre April 2006 so its not in the high tax band.
Im gonna try and get a test drive in a 987 S and see if I like it, certainly like them in black with the optional 19" wheels.
Shame the Exige's aren't cheaper

Sorry but its just such a good car that I cant bear to part with it. Way better than those M3 things
Havnt driven a boxster/caymen myself but I have some friends who own them and they love them.

. I thought the S started out with a 3.2 as opposed to the base Cayman which was a 2.7 I think. I know the latest Cayman S has a 3.4, but what I was getting at was that the car I drove was not the latest version. I hope that clears things up! In any case the OP has said he can't afford a Cayman, so it doesn't really matter any more!timk

Please try and understand something - Evo, Top Gear, What Car, all give verdicts which are based on opinions. Whatever they say they, cannot be regarded as being 'right' or 'wrong' - car reviews are, in part subjective. You need to stop saying an 'M3 is 'best', Boxster is 'best' etc because Evo said so' as it's a generalist, sweeping, playground Top Trumps approach.

Ha ha ha. Clarkson drives an AMG
I line up of Merc AMG's W211 E55 AMG, SL55 AMG, SLK55 AMG, and now think he drives a CLK63 Black,
ohh he has a 600 Grosser, lol.
And he always goes on about AMG's he also did say he is a big AMG fan in a recent Top gear episode.
