Cleaning product and wax recommendations

Blimey, that OCD is really taking hold! You're definitely not afraid to splash the cash but then I'm told the streets of Cheshire are paved with gold. Do tell us which Premier League team you play for. :D

You do know the next stop on the slippery slope of extreme detailing is machine polishing, right?

You're not wrong about the OCD:D. As for the rest I can only wish. I am merely a social worker (a bonkers social worker some may argue). However I do tend to follow the motto: "You only live once":D

Funnily enough I was looking at the clay mitts yesterday (in the Angelwax website) and was wondering whether to get one or not but wasn't sure.

As for machine polishing I have already thought about it but have managed to hold back so far telling myself that I need to try hand waxing first. Fingers crossed I will manage to hold back my urges for a while longer:thumb:

Just thought to give a bit of feedback based on my experience so far. The important points so far are:

1. The entire process of cleaning car inside out and applying sealant/wax can take up to 8 hours:crazy::eek::eek:
2. if the alloys of the car are multi-spoke like those in mine then forget about applying any sort of sealant/wax to them. Not only will it take the good part of an hour but it will also leave your back very sore... and your fingers even worse.:fail
3. Angelwax H2Go does indeed make the water slide off faster. However I have noticed that every time the wipes activate the coating that H2Go forms on the glass becomes misty. And this is a true pain in the back side. :fail

I finish my 55k of with a coat of Zymol Carbon, Awesome on a black car.

I like effect of Chemical Guys EZ Creme Glaze. It leaves a shiny, wet-look finish.

The Clay Cloth Company mitt is far better than the G3 Mitt. The G3 Mitt has a very thin layer of clay with many holes in the surface which can easily trap contaminants. You can see the pink microfibre weave through the clay compound! The Clay Cloth Company ones are far superior!

Re: Wheels

Find time to save time... take them off get them properly clean, fall out remover, tar remover, clay etc... and then seal them with your FK1000P and a coat of wax on top if you like

From then on the dirty will be a breeze to remove with your Wheel Woolies ;)

:)

IMHO and experience, a sealant can easily be found that lasts considerably longer than 6-12 months, such as synthetic polymer coatings that will last 1-2 years.

Both the AG and Megs shampoos mentioned are not ph neutral so will shorten the life of your coatings, and any wax product which lasts 1-2 months is simply not worth wasting your time applying in the first place. A decent product should last at least 3 months, more if you spend more on a higher percentage product. Even more if its a hybrid, which contains a sealant blend.

It comes down to whether you want to spend your time polishing your car or driving it, and what price you put on your time.

Hi if your looking for a good sealant try Wolfgang it's
About £34 but it's well worth it

Have a look at the detailing world website - it also contains lots of advice about Obsidian Black. On my W213 Obsidian Black Im trying to keep the amount that I touch the paint down to a minimum by using a really good snow-foam, which should hopefully avoid having to wash the car as much as I normally would. Victoria Concours wax has had rave reviews for Obs. black cars and its lovely to get on your hands and move about on the paint.....:-)

Thank you for the advice guys but I'm afraid I have already bought the sealant and the wax so I'm now stuck with using them for the forseeable future. I am happy to apply the Carlack sealant twice a year and wax once every 2 months or so.

The only bit that bothers me are the wheels. These multi spokes are an absolute nightmare to clean in all the nooks and crannies they have. I can't understand why Mercedes doesn't do different models of the 16" wheels. I have seem better looking alloys on KIAs for god's sake.
