One week old CLK 320CDI has blown the 20amp starter motor fuse twice. Its gone to the dealer now but the Mobilo guy said yesterday that a recall was out on the new C Class for replacing the starter motor on 320 CDI's. Is this true and is this the reason for mine having this problem?

I've only seen a SAM related issue for the new C-class but for the CLK there already is this change from a 15 amp fuse to a 20 amp one (have you checked what your fuse chart says?). Now it looks like the 20 A fuse does not work, would be interesting to know how the dealer would fix this.

Many thanks for the quick reply. As I have the 20amp fuse in the box (I don't have any fuse chart either in the box or in the handbook - should I?) it appears that there is a real problem as it blew two mornings on the trot. As the fuse is under the bonnet and you need to take a cover off then undo two bolts to release the fuse box cover and the car is only a week old maybe I should send it back as it's clearly not "fit for purpose" and I dont fancy having to do all that in the cold and wet!!

It sounds like a faulty starter solenoid causing excess current draw. The starter is 2.3Kw so the solenoid is fairly beefy.

That is what my brother thought when I spoke to him this evening (auto electricial for Citroen). The trouble is if it don't happen while in the dealers, they can't fix it, or so they say, and as it hasn't done it everytime it may not happen!
