F1 2024

Agreed, but they are just about the hold the TT on the Isle of Man for the umpteenth time .....we all know it just shouldn't:doh:
A good friend of mine at the time (Alan Barnett) competed in many TTs in many categories. It was only the fact that he was around in the era of Agostini on his MV Agusta that prevented him ever bettering second place. He never admitted it to me, but knowing him well I’m sure it was the ultimate challenge of the island that kept him going back there. He was always happier (and more successful) on conventional circuits in the rain when everyone else slowed down, so a few brick walls and hump-backed bridges were an attraction for him.

IMO teams should only be allowed to change their tyres for the same compound under a red flag.

Shame it may have possibly taken away any undercut/overbuy potential.

Nice ‘get out of jail free’ card for CS. 🤨
Agree. I also think there is a case to have slightly different tyre rules for Monaco, e.g. only softs available, minimum two-stops.

My race summary?
Mess, chess then success … for the local boy

Good on CL & Ferrari. 4th different race winner of the season. Odd a team asking their leading driver to slow down. 🥴

I’d love to see an underprivileged person or poorly youngster have the role of waving the chequered flag at the end of every race as opposed to a rich & famous person. 🙏

Some brilliant motor racing today, but it wasn't at Monaco:fail:
The Moto GP event at Barcelona today provided racing fans with some proper overtaking and excitement.
Wheel to wheel at 215mph takes some bottle.

I'm afraid Monaco once again proved dull as ditch water for me. Two, yes two overtakes the whole race:doh:.
The only thing that livens up that place is a crash, or rain. Even Jensen Button was enthusing about the excitement of the pit stops! Really??

Monaco is perfect for the rich to parade their wealth, but I'd be massively disappointed to pay good money to be served up what went on today.
Literally, besides Magnusson doing his usual kamikazi overtake and taking out Perez and Ocon almost flipping his team mate, nothing happened.

Yes, you can point to huge crowds at most races, but given the choice, and the means, there are very few circuits I'd want to watch F1 live.
San Marino (Emilio Romagna) , Austria, Silverstone, Suzuka, Spa, Netherlands and Monza. You can keep the rest.

I'll now stand by for incoming scorn.

Here is some proper racing from yesterdays sprint event

You won’t get any scorn from me. When the top 10 finishers were the top ten in qualifying, in the same order, they might as well all have gone home after Q3 yesterday.

Monaco is perfect for the prawn sandwich brigade IMO. I
As per my earlier post, Monaco is very much (if not more) about the money. The Sky team mentioned this too. The cars were chugging round some ten seconds (15% or so) slower than qualifying pace. Max on new tyres couldn’t pass George who was on old hards that he’d had on from the re-start. Similar to a charging Mansell who was 2-seconds a lap quicker than Senna and still couldn’t get by.

Still watched it though, must be daft!

Not seen Moto GP yet, looking forward the highlights.

Which kind of sums up Monaco in general.

But today's race took the usual charade of a race to a whole new pathetic level of motor racing farce.

The venue is glamorous but awful. I think I stated a year or two years ago that they should find a way to improve the circuit or the race should be taken away. I'm sure that would focus some minds on improving the event.

I’m sure us mere mortals know best. 🤗

In all honesty, today’s race was poor. But Monaco has always been a gamble. Some good, some bad. Nothing new. Keep it and indulge. Next year maybe epic.

Most dull. The very odd one good. This took the usual poor standard to a new lower level. In that sense it was actually new .... but not in a good way.

The way the dice rolls it's unlikely to be epic. I'll watch the qualy next year and then skip the race unless the forecast is for rain.

Agreed. Some very valid points that have been made year on year. The simple solution is to stop watching if you’re not so keen. I’m sure the race weekend will not suffer as a result.

Packed grandstands at Monaco and empty seats at past events such as Turkey. Go figure. 🤷‍♂️

Just watching the (delayed) start of the Indy 500… (I know, I’m a glutton for punishment…. 🤣)

Only way to do it is very simple, have them all qualify in the cars as normal, after quali take the cars off the drivers and give them all push bikes for Sunday and have them race the bikes.

No, give them qualifying cars then let the teams totally change the cars for the race, unlimited mods, crashed? No probs take the spare out...
