Formula One 2018 - General Thread

Come on Kimi. Let’s see you win this one.

This is turning into a decent race for once.

Totally enjoyed that race. Hopefully it’ll be a great, close battle throughout the season.

I’m a McLaren man through and through but I’m very happy for Gasly in P4.

Shame for the RB Guys.

Great race! Mercedes' radio caused them problems...a poxy radio!

I didn't see Bottas overtaking Vettel as Seb is a better driver.

Hamilton did a fantastic triple overtake early on but just didn't have the pace

I think that race has decided Bottas's future won't be at Mercedes. He didn't put Vettel under anything like enough pressure, he should have forced him to shred his tyres with at least ten laps to go. It was clear MB's plan A was to force the Ferraris into another pit stop, but Vettel was allowed to conserve his tyres pretty much as he pleased due to lack of pressure.

^^^Agreed
Oh and speedy recovery to the Ferrari mechanic who broke his leg

Just seen Toto's interview, he was pleased with a 2-3 finish seeing as the car wasn't the quickest. However, I could sense he wasn't pleased that Bottas didn't get the job done

Yes it was a good race with plenty of overtaking. It is shame that most of the circuits don’t allow it to happen.

Can I just say,,,,, McLaren,,,,,3rd????

(Ok, ignore the fact that RB had a Double DNF)

Yeah baby!!!!

The green light system in the pits stops doesn't seem to work as well as the old lollipop system, lollipop man looks to see all four guns in the air before releasing

Other than the obvious concern for the mechanic, I was puzzled why they retired Kimi so readily as he could have come back in again for another go at the left rear. The reason is the car has to have the same compound on all 4 wheels or it's forbidden to re-join the track.

The medics would have been in the process of stabilising the injured mechanic and would have been in the way.

Yep, pretty sure that the car has to have the same compound on all four corners.

Proper Keystone Cops moment from Ferrari and with 20 (ish) people servicing the cars during a pit stop, its surprising there aren't more incidents like this. Very dangerous system if it can fail like this, could easily have been a fatality. The fine of 50k EUR doesn't send a strong enough message to Ferrari or the other teams.

I hope the mechanic recovers well.

Yeah. It happened on The williams’s of Bottas (or Massa) a few seasons ago. No pit stop incident but someone pulled out wrong wheel from the rack and they sent the car out with a mixture of tyre compounds on.

They got a penalty too.
