France to increase taxes on diesel fuel

Tanked up in France last Tuesday at 97p/litre (Carrefour Ardres) - makes even Tesco's up tp 20p/l discount look expensive!

The French government is clearly as deluded as the British government. Raising taxes to save the environment is a load of baloney, its just a way of getting more money for nothing.

From the country that tried to force us all to buy two breathalyzers and has a wealth tax so that all the talent flees the country...commies!

"This will add around 50p to the price of a full tank for medium car owners and 70p for large car owners."

Not a huge incentive to change then... :D

Typical DM exaggeration. But if that guy tries to ban diesels, or ban them from entering cities etc, that will be a different story. Let's watch and see what happens.

More money is needed by the Government, diesel taxes are very low, but the French motor industry leads on diesel engine development, so make some environmental noise and shove up taxes.

As a famous Frenchmen Colbert said many moons ago "The art of taxation consists in so plucking the goose as to obtain the largest amount of feathers with the least possible amount of hissing"

When governments impose new taxes the last thing they want is for people to avoid the taxable activity...

Makes you think about the government's real attitude towards drinking, smoking, and driving.

Alcohol minimum pricing...drinks industry pays for some 'independent' research showing how bad it is...price goes up, who benefits? The government & the drinks industry, or just the government to pay for A&E costs?
