M156 vs m157 amg engines c63 e63 amg

I looked at an e63s estate but ended up getting hold of a heavily optioned cls63 SB for less.

Agree with the comment above - you can get the S performance gain for significantly less money via a number if means. The LSD is probably the most meaningful of the additional spec but again that can be remedied retrospectively.

That said if you go into your dealer at the right time and they can source a pre built car you'll get a big discount.

Yep, got my quaife diff and fitting for £1300 inc vat.

Less than half the new car diff option price of £2400 plus vat.....

Again, great insight into C63 ownership.

Your engine sounds no less efficient than the 5.5 TT in my E63 - makes me want to go back to the M156!

Hi!
How is the Black Beast going? I hope it's treating you well. I still miss that car. The E63 isn't a patch on it for character and fun.

Poor old Jack Wood!

Maybe the 4Litre TT will make him happy.

I feel the twin turbo is better as a all round daily car with the midrange torque, whereas the m156 is a better weekend car. Just linear power.

"Having owned both, it has to be the NA 6.2 litre unit. I will be replacing my TT E63 with a NA AMG when my lease is up. Quite frankly, the throttle response on the FI unit is terrible and even after 20 months I can't steer it as happily on the throttle.

Economy on longer runs was better on my 6.2 but around town the TT pips it"

Horses for courses my tt is a in a different league to the 6.2 I had.

The tt is highly tuneable for less money than you would spend on a m156 but for me I'd have a m156 over a m157 in a heartbeat!:)

I've spoken to two 5.5 t/t owners recently.

One, a forum member, went from an E55K to an E63 5.5 t/t.

The other from a C63 to an E63S 5.5 t/t.

Both said that the performance of their 5.5 t/t was significantly better (quicker/faster) than their previous cars.

Unsurprising really, as evolution is a reality, and surely, good news for us all.

I had the c63 for 9 months and really loved it but I have found the 5.5 a step up in all but the sound, which I fixed with an exhaust.

I couldn't agree more. The new TT motors have impressive mid range torque and WOT performance, but can't match the NA engines for the precision of connection between throttle and rear axle.
Happy to be back in a NA AMG, but hope the AMG and BMW engineers can figure out how to fix this soon as big bore NA engines are finished....

Rumour has it that the 4litre is more responsive straight out of the box. Given what I have seen and heard on you tube it certainly seems to be loud enough, especially when the valves are open.

I have a deposit down on a GTS so some (as yet unspecified :( ) time in the future I'll be able to compare 6.2 vs 5.5 vs 4.0 :)

Like Justin I think that with some relatively inexpensive modifications the 5.5 cars are very impressive and very enjoyable. Since I got mine how I like it I honestly haven't pined for the N/A motor.

Chap comparing his current m157 e63 to his now sold c63 m156 -

Same here. Would keep it a while longer if the deal was the same as it's a lot of car for the money (at the price we got). But otherwise not loving it like I did the C63 estate. Not sure what it is. It sounds great, drives ok, but is just too big to be fun.

Is that not more to do with it being an E63 rather than the 5.5 Biturbo?
