MB accept S205 rejection

Jay - that looks a beaut! That's the same spec I put together on the configurator before finally deciding on the Selenite Grey. Once I saw the chrome against the grey, I fell for it. I do however like the bicolour wheels. Hope you're pleased with it - I love mine! :D

Thanks Simon. Wasn't sure about the white paint but with the night pack it replaces the chrome parts and adds a bit of contrast against all that white.

Must admit yours is a stunner!

How do you find the running boards? Do they get in your way getting in and out? Sure my 7yr old will love them.

Well got to say this thread justifies my decision not to buy a new Mercedes as the build quality on the 205 and 212 is not good as this thread proves.

However I did buy a VW

Did you look into MPG figures at a constant 120? Are they realistic? :D

I really hope MB have not gone back to 210 cost cutting days

Yes they are a bit off though does 50 gallons per mile :D Good customer service though my new car not due until March. They lent me a Golf GTD for the last 3 months which I gave them back today in exchange for a brand new Tiguan R sport 4x4 :bannana:

They have for sure on the 205 and 212. build quality is very poor. Something wrong when Skoda build quality of similar bracket cars is better than MB :dk:

What do you consider wrong with the 212?

We're 16K miles into the ownership of ours and it hasn't missed a beat. Theres not a single creak or rattle.

It's far superior to the 2011 Facelift C220 we owned, and that was also very reliable.

Just out of interest, how do you measure build quality?

It's something that is often quoted but I've never heard a definition.

I'd say squeaks, rattles and stuff falling off, how about you?

Are you seriously judging the build quality of two model ranges purely based on someone's experience on an internet forum?

Agree with above here, whilst this car has been a shocker, my previous C Class, our A Class an ML have been faultless really.

No of course not I have driven loads of 205 and 212 and build quality is shocking rattles and squeaks from cheap plastics used in the cabin. Flimsy switch gear, and what is it with that stupid stick on infotainment screen its like they forgot about it and stuck it on afterwards a bit like the Citroen 2 CV headlights :-). Engines in both cars are garbage until you get to the big stuff and no where near the level of their peers.

I've just picked up a brand new VW Tiguan R today as a loan car for 3 months and it just oozes quality interior is a much nicer place than any equivalent MB

MB have just lost the plot and back to their cost cutting consumer rip off days

MB/BMW/Audi are just the new Cavalier/Sierra/Montego, cheap monthly cost but flashy looking fleet car and PCP fodder.

If people expect a new luxury car for £299 a month something had to give, if a car has the same monthly cost as a Renault it needs to be built like one.

Clearly the list prices are inflated to make the PCP numbers stack up, and to keep people coming back for more.

Customers can't have it always, cheap monthly rentals require that the cars are cheap to build, hard to do on a luxury car but easier on a Twingo.

What car would you suggest?

Hard to say, but Jaguar and Lexus would be my choices at the higher end of the market, and Vauxhall, Kia, Hyuandi, Nissan or Renault at the lower end.

Strange how different perspectives are.

We discounted a Tiguan due to the lack of space but mainly the cheap looking and dated interior. Also another family member had to hand it his back for a refund due to sheer number of problems he had with it.

The 212 has an integrated Sat Nav screen not the stuck on one and we've not had a bump or creak from ours in a year and 16,000 miles of motoring. It's a great car. There's nothing that appears flimsy or cheap in ours, the switchgear all works perfectly. Ours is a CDI though not a bluetec, did something change late last year that caused problems?

I've got a year old S205 with 10,000 miles on the clock. No rattles or squeaks, looks lovely inside IMHO. Shame about the experience of the OP. It's always hard on a forum to judge what's going on as by its nature people tend to post about problems. A post saying it's going fine with no issues is a bit boring!

I've got the facelift with the New interior and nappa it's gorgeous

The 212 integrated nav is nice but useless the 212 deal breaker is the fake exhausts on the rear panel too Barry for me

That's a great point really. Take a number of 1000 205 owners. I'm betting most of them adore their new cars.

Regarding the styling, well, they wouldn't have bought them if they didn't like them. The fact that they're selling well proves people like them.

I agree with Chris, as a forum, we're more likely to hear about the few problematic 205's than the many that are running well.

Each to their own I guess.

Regarding Nicks post. We looked at a Vauxhall Mokka last summer. It was simply horrid. IMO of course.

Ant.

I didn't know what a Vauxhall Mokka was so I googled it, looks like a baby 4x4, harmless enough, but mine for £140 a month on some sort of lease/pcp thing.

There must be people who spend more that that a month on takeaways or vodka, how can any of the manufacturers be making any money "selling" cars like this?

Bit of a weird lifestyle when all your belongings are borrowed and paid for by monthly subscription?
