My New W209 CLK - Large Modding Project

Went to the bodyshop today match the colour swatches for the front bumper today and he showed me his progress on fixing the dog damage to the bumper.

He has been having alot of grief bonding the broken section back on, said he couldnt use the normal 'welding' agent on it as it wasnt the standard plastic used... or somthing.

he has applied another bonding agent which so far so good. letting it 'dry' for a couple of days to see how strong it becomes.

Nothings ever easy is it!

Finally got all my bits of trim for my facelift mod. If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for the facelift cage from Mercedes.?

£26 IIRC with discount so not much! Good luck, remember to place all screws in bags and mark where you got them from!

This time next week I should have fitted my 63 bumper :)

Bags? I bought a couple of plastic sorting trays from poundland. I write a little paper note and stick it in each section along with all the screws. Makes every job so much easier.

Damn, I would love one of those but they are like hens teeth to get hold of without selling a kidney.

What are you doing with your old bumper.????

May be interested if you are planning on selling mate.

Had a storage tray once, turned around and ended up kicking the lot over the garage floor :wallbash:

Bags it is!

Really nice CLK Karl.
I own the same model, but not the same look for the moment.

I was wondering, did you buy the car with the AMG bodyparts (bumpers & skirt) ?
If no, where did you buy them ? Cause I'm not interesting in a Rieger bodykit, I would like to keep the OEM parts.

By the way, are you selling your "current" front bumper as you will replace it with a CLK 63 ?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Bodykit was factory fitted :)

I currently have 4 people interested in the existing 55 bumper I have fitted.

And? Its my money!

I enjoy updating my car adding things and changing things.

I could have spend a couple of k getting a top spec model but I would rather spend my free time teaching myself how to take things apart and fitting them.

interesting thread.. dont know how i missed this one

well done!

Pointing out the obvious.

In the long run it's cheaper to upgrade than keep modifying an existing car.

;)

Indeed. Or as George Mallory said...

Front bumper removed - nowhere near as easy as a W202's bumper to remove! + alot more swearing. ;)

Dont you love the metal slide clips on either side?! Getting off is easier than re-fitting IMO
