My New W209 CLK - Large Modding Project

Had a go at wiring up the RVM light this afternoon, wired it upto the factory fitted ashtray ambient light via the A-Pillar:

Careful to position the wiring away from the curtain roof airbag:

And finally a shot of the actual light on, this was before I applied some sandpaper to the LED to create a diffused light effect so its not as bright as this shot implys:

Once I have finished the footwell lights I will take some decent pictures with my SLR camera that can pick up low light levels a hell of alot better than my phone camera!

Indeed!! I wouldn't even know when to start! Brilliant work!

Best picture I could managed before the battery ran out. They arent as bright as this in real life (ive brighten it in PS) but it does give you a good idea of what I have done:

2x LEDs per footwell, and one at the bottom of the RVM

Might have a go at the rear passenger pocket/wells also...

That looks fantastic Karl. :thumb:

Ambient lighting can make a big difference to the feel of the car - I think it's safer too, as you can see things in the car much more easily at night, meaning that you can find what you're looking for without taking your eyes off the road for too long, and without switching on interior lighting which itself causes glare and your eyes must adjust to the light differences twice.

Picked this up today from a certain member who had a run in with a dog... (gutted about the dog :( ):

Needs some work on the other side of the photo, as the side vents have broke off nowt major.

Need the centre grill, might make one out of mesh myself.

I am sure that it will have plenty of polish on it ;)

Rash's cars so smooth/polished I bet his MPG is higher than any other '63 out there ;)

Please don't.

If you need extra cash to buy an original, I'll buy sidelight LEDs for my W220 from you.

If I do, I will spend ages on it, source correct looking pattern and it will look OEM.

I would make it yourself... It's not hard, costs £10 for the mesh and 99% of people won't be able to tell the difference. If it does look crap you could buy a genuine one knowing you've tried.

Btw Wilcos on milton road have the same pattern as my cl's mesh, not sure if you would need different!
