New Top Gear Series Starts Next Sunday

It looks like the "selling" part was a technicality of the contract - he sells to them, then he will have the option of buying it back for £1. There was a clear intention to return the car to him, and he was promised it would not be ruined. And then Clarkson ruined it.

So, I think that's crap. I have no issue with the TG guys simply buying cars and then destroying them for our enjoyment (and I loved the episode). However, the way they appear to have done this sucks :)

I don't know. I quite enjoyed this one, every time Hamseter drove into James May I winced. Thought it was fantatic when he unhooked and left him!

He did say, the figure was £450, obviously to enable him to win the challenge.. ;)

A quote from the Top Gear thread on the Alfaforum already posted.

"Well it was my 75 on the show and I loved it. That's why I did it, to show how good the 75 really is it just keeps on going JK loved the car really loved it. Ok he trashed it but that's all an easy fix it needed a respray anyway and I sure my fellow 75`ers will help me out with bits. Going to try and see if Alfa Romeo UK are interested in using her for publicity. They paid me 450 for the car and 550 for inconvenience. That is what the receipt says. I only paid 550 for the car anyway and the clutch had gone since I had it. It is funny how Alfas really get in your blood."

I KNOW it is pure entertainment, I KNOW that everything is well scripted and rehearsed, but how many times have I moaned about the way they both use James May as an end stop, or deliberately 'dinked' his car? I KNOW they do it for a laugh, but it does frustrate me, especially this time because May had the only decent car. I guess that was also in the script, plus no doubt, so was the part you mentioned.

Yup, FINALLY..... finally James May reacted   :D He certainly had a very nice car and what a bargain!

regards
John

That annoys the hell out of me too!

Must be an age thing ;) - I was amazed when May turned up in a GTV for a grand, and the first slam of the door into Mays door had me really annoyed as there was no need for it. I could see then dink in htat door for the rest of the episode.
A nice GTV and a Spider were sacrificed in the name of entertainment, The Spider may not have beeen the tidiest option but it was certainly a very reasonable car for the money.

They could have had a really good factual enjoyable show without the intentional damage .................

Lying on the side was phoney, deliberate push over the side.

KingAlfa75 got tickets for the show.

A mate of mine was at Rockingham that day and got to drive out on the track in his GT2. I'll ask him what really happened and how much of it was actually scripted.....

In every TG challenge the always crash into Mays car, usually from behind. He gets rear ended several times unneccessarily in this episode and then the door handle thingee. They do it for humour...

Im still Livid that they trashed a perfect W123 going across the desert in Africa.. some of the bits they discarded of in the middle of nowhere have been NLA for years.
all in the name of entertainment..

Now is probably a good time to come out and say that I have always considered those GTVs to be hugely ugly. Nasty nose, boring rear end, stupid crease line that makes the thing look like it's tipping forward.

*shudder*

There's not a huge about of differance between kids/yobs smashing up bus shelters/phoneboxes/peoples cars for the crack and the TG three smashing up old cars just for the crack...
