New Top Gear Series Starts Next Sunday

I would say all these challenges are completly scripted and all the cars are obtained by reserchers?

I'm not sure I agree. I think JC is too lazy/self important to do his own buying, but Hammond and May both get a lot of pleasure from trawling Autotrader and such like, and I would have thought they would want to find their own cars.

Bear in mind that TG only got one Alfa from members of the Alfa forum. If the researchers were doing the buying, they'd have got them all there, or certainly tried to.

The presenters do just that, I can't see them hunting for cars.

Totally agree. Folks seem to forget this is entertainment; the researchers will obtain cars to suit the persona of the three presenters, they have surely always done this?

We have had a moan about the trashing of these Alfa's, but what about that Bentley??? Would you want to buy that ex demonstrator? No doubt Bentley would like to see their car being driven in a rapid manner, but surely that was way, way to OTT?? I would love to have been a fly on the wall when Bentley spoke with Top Gear after that show and no I do not think Bentley would have been impressed.

There's not a huge about of differance between kids/yobs smashing up bus shelters/phoneboxes/peoples cars for the crack and the TG three smashing up old cars just for the crack...

At least they own the cars ;)

I think I still have a soft spot for Alfas, and 3x75s would have been more amusing, but the GTV was still pretty decent towards the end, and Hammond was a bigger **** than usual trying to wreck what might be described as an automotive icon. Normally I just laugh it off but this episode made me as uncomfortable as when Clarkson killed the Merak engine for no reason :)

At this point I will point out normally I dont care and laugh it off for what it is, as a lot of other probably are this time. The 123 didn't worry me - but it did annoy Jay :D

TG (for me) is getting to the stage where every episode can be summed up as:
Clarkson does doughnuts/powerslides in something lumpy, some b-lister *returns* for another plug and a go around the track, and some classic cars get smashed up for a laugh in the style of the chuckle brothers...

And that's why I love it. Given the chance would I do the same? Hell yeah!

And I doubt Bently gave a toss that JC rode the ar$e off that car. Footballers are probably now queuing up for them now.

Well I still Pee my self laughing every week!
So what if it's scripted, isn't nearly all stuff on TV?

And, I think the bashing into each other is funny!!:D

- must be that sense of humour again.

Tonight

Jeremy and James recently bought themselves a couple of classic luxury limos. Jeremy plumped for a Mercedes 600 'Grosse', the preferred transportation of the world's most discerning despots. James, on the other hand, went for the full 'Tarbuck' and filled his driveway with a Rolls-Royce Corniche Coupe.
To see if buying either of these cars was a good idea, we've set the presenters a couple challenges that'll see them take to both the track and the streets of London.
Also, as Jeremy found out in last week's show, it's almost impossible to discover the Nissan GT-R's limits on the road. So this week Clarkson will be unleashing the big Datsun on a Japanese race circuit.
And, a pair of dragons get their claws on our reasonably priced car.

Call yourself a fan? Only if you can do the quiz.

Looking forward to todays show heard about the Mercedes 600 so lets see how it goes.

Blimey the horn of that 600 Große was very LOUD !

Tonights show was most entertaining. It's getting close to becoming samey, but the luxury barge deal was good and reasonably sensible.

The dragons were fun, the GTR is an amazing vehicle.

yeah that merc is a 'real merc'.

I wouldnt of liked that service bill he had!!! i seem to remember reading somewhere (here?) that his merc was in a popular Merc specialst getting referbished/serviced fairly recently...? i guss that was the bill!!

What the equivalent that Merc made now? Maybach?

I'd say that was probably the nearest comparison.

Strangely though the 600 Clarkson has I find far more appealing than a Maybach.

Thats the one he got caught using his phone in!
