Noisy 1.6, or is it?

In two minds on this one.

The Vaneo is the first "monobox" that I've owned, so maybe there is resonance and the fact the engine is closer \ almost under me, but it seems a touch "noisy" over about 3.5k, fine at idle and low revs.

It's the 102 version of the 1.6, 04 plate, only done 20k, any thoughts?

(under warranty with MB still, just want more info before I get a mechanic that replies with "they all do that sir")

They all do that sir!

What CAR, Parkers and Honest John all characterise the 1.6 VANEO engine as "noisy". Whether this due to the engine or just because its badly insulated from the passenger compartment I dont know, but seems a common complaint. Dont think there is anything amiss and in this case the phrase "they all do that sir" probably does apply. No harm in getting it checked out within the warranty for peace of mind tho.

Got it checked out.... there *was* a vibration noise, it was the air intake assembly that had come unclipped!

They checked chain and tensioners, all fine, is quieter now so that intake was the culprit.

They glued a door seal that had come adrift also, and washed \ valet even though it was "I know there are no slots on sat morn, but could someone have a quick listen".
