Ordered a Skoda today!!

Surely, you're not getting divorced over a car..?

Wifey and I know a woman who was livid that her husband chose a SAAB 9-5 Estate as a company car when all his contemporaries had BMW 5 Series. We asked her how she was liking the SAAB and she said "we don't discuss it". :D

It wasn't a nice car to drive. Slow (2.0l 140BHP), noisy and the auto gearbox wasn't smooth. Good spec, but not great value for a mid £20k's car. Each to their own, but it wasn't for me.

Its not a mid £20k's car it s 20 or 21k car

I wouldnt have bought a E200 for the same reason when i bought my W210 but like the way you can compare one to the E320 CDI i doubt the 140 auto is much like the 170 manual

Well what a wonderful debate , I must admit that I never buy new, I usually allow other more adventurous people to spend their hard earned money to find all the faults and get them rectified under warranty and then I'm only too happy to pick up a proper and well fixed secondhand car.
My point is that the skoda has developed really well under VAG guidance and if anyone wants to buy one - good luck, you are free to do so.
In one of my businesses and I'm sure it's true in other peoples businesses, first impressions count and if I or any of my staff drew up in any VAG vehicle, especially a Skoda, we would not be able to survive the downturn in contracts, we have tried every kind of vehicle out there but if we dont turn up in a Mercedes or Bomoow the image !!
Well you get the drift!!
With me I could and have had a variety of weekend toys and rally cars and motorbikes etc.. but I am a driver who enjoys driving and have done so for about 3 decades and more and if I cant drive a car that gives me instant respect and the power at the tap of a throttle that my non-rusting C43 gives then I would have to give up.
By the way, just for your enjoyment- I used to rally the Allegro 1750's when other stuck in non-sponsored Ford Escorts had to pay for all their amusement!!

Its not a debate its a collections of musings from a group of people who havent owned or driven the car in question giving their opinion, those in the know that have driven it have placed it very highly in the luxury car bracket higher than a A6, 7-series or even Bentley Continental

The same thing happened when i bought my W210 i had dozens of W124 owners telling me how superior their 10 year old cars were and how they feel so important driving their cars and look down on the owners of newer inferior MB, they were delusional, i think the theme persists

Skoda better than a Bentley? I must be still asleep.

Damm now I'm even dreaming about this forum!

I'd not quite rate it as highly as a Bentley, I think you're swinging the pendulum a bit too far in the opposite direction.

However, I do agree that a lot of people here are commenting out of what looks to be snobbery, rather than facts.

Honestly, not wanting to be seen in anything else but a Merc, what the neighbours would think, what the customers would think (*)... What a load of twaddle. If the wife wants a divorce because the car is not a Merc, better git rid of her now, what kind of relationship is that??

You know what, I drive an s-class because it was the car I liked best. My neighbours probably don't even know what I drive and I go to work by tube. At least I made up my own mind.

Maddog - good on you for making up your own mind. All our situations are different and if the Skoda works for you, then well done for not going with the herd.

(*) If I'd see a supplier pull up in an s-class, I'd clearly think I'm paying them too much...

For what it's worth, Honest John gives the Superb five stars:

And Aberdeenshire Council have made a sensible decision:

BBC Radio 4 included this in their headline news at yesterday. One wonders about the BBC's priorities and how well informed they are, as I suspect it was intended to tag along with the long-outdated "Skodas are rubbish" myth.

From everything I've read and heard, its mostly women and children who are obsessed by the false Skoda image. That says it all for me.

Surrey Police have a 3.6 Superb on test at the moment, if they end up with one as an armed response you know they are good. They've got an old Superb 2.8 at the moment as well.

As a business owner of two of these Superb's out of our fleet of 150 + vehicle's, I assure you that I'm not running under the illusion that my Skoda's represent us as a company, we use them purely as transportation for goods/products/ deliveries and for that they are great - but so do our vans do the same job!!
Our drivers enjoy driving the Merc's and enjoy the clients comments on these vehicles but trying to get our clients to travel in the Skodas is the hardest thing for the drivers and when they do they remain unimpressed , It's still a perception thing, you obviously have fallen in love with the Skoda so Good Luck but driving these vehicles every day just makes me so glad I can get back in the C43. My day is made up of driving Ford's and Skoda's and Volvo's and Merc's and even the occasional BMoooW but I would not want to try and bludgeon my colleagues here into trying to class a Skoda ahead of a Merc.
I think your doing the right thing by buying the Skoda and when they become established as the rust free vehicles they are and that they become as classy
over the next few years as the Merc. then let us hope that the dealers remain as good as they claim they are now and that they remain rust free!!

Or that they're really successful at what they do for their clients. And have good taste in cars.

I comment on my experience of the model I drove. Just checked the price on Skoda's website, starts at £23k -the extras it had took the list price over £25k. Not good value for money, £25k buys plenty. But maybe not so bad if you can get all that for £20 - £21k.
