Ordered a Skoda today!!

If you really want a lot of loading space, then an e-class estate has lots more space than an s-class. But an s-class is for wafting people around in ultimate comfort, not to use as a mover's van :D.

I am replacing an E class estate so yes i do need the space

Not sure the S class is the ultimate comfort but i'm sure it nice to be driven in

Just as an FYI if any of you chaps who are local to me fancy having a poke around a Superb for yourself, I've kind an event/open day tommorow and I've got a Superb 3.6 V6 DSG and a Superb 2.0TDi DSG you can take out for a spin and see what you think.

Link if your interested

I thought about DSG but decided not to try it on the basis that i was happy with the manula and suspected i might not be if i tried the DSG , same probably goes for the 3.6:):):)

May well pop down for the drive though

I have an E320CDi estate with-now-239000 miles on the clock. My colleague has an almost new Skoda Estate 2.5 diesel.he drover my car the other day,for about 300 miles, and pronounced that he was going to look for a used E320 now!!

Autocar magazine 14/01/09 tested the new skoda superb 2.0 Tdi against the
Audi A6, BMW 7and Bentley Continental. An eye opener for me......

Quote:

"the Skoda has competed hard and on merit out-riding the BMW, offering more space than the Audi and refinement levels close to the Bentley's.
It is a proper luxury car, and for space, comfort and quiet offered for the money being asked, is the most impressive here."

It's probably also worth noting that recent Skodas are at the top end of the European makes in the reliability surveys.

I personally don't like the looks and wouldn't buy one but it's clearly a sound choice and far superior in every respect to the now dated W210 rustomatic !

One of my neighbours switched from many years of Mercedes ownership to a Lexus GS300 and he says his only regret is that he didn't do it sooner. Interestingly the Lexus and Skoda dealer around here is the same company.

I had a GS430 before the CLS andthe dealers are / wers truly superb it was apleasure to need them BUT the car was a V8 sounding and driving like a 2.0 Sierra just quieter - uneventful driving experience - no V8 rumble at all

I had a new Skoda in 06 and it was a good car. The dealers weren't up to scratch then though which was a shame. I tried 3 of them and they were all rubbish.

I personally think the dealers are the biggest factor in buying a NEW car , I've had terrible service from the MB dealers , if i had an decent dealer locally then I would buy another Merc in a second likewise if the Skoda dealer was lousy I wouldnt consider one.

I really don't know how dealers get the fabulous rating that they would have you believe. OK, I'm not easily pleased, but it's rare that I come out of any dealership without a plot going on in my mind about how I'm going to sneak back and blow the place up.

Honourable exception goes to TwoMills Honda at Ledsham, but even they managed to mess up the easy part for a dealership - handover of a new car. However they did appear genuinely distraught and unprompted offered the first service free, useful compensation at Honda prices.

E320CDi Estate

Thanks for the offer-but too late.I pointed my colleague towards good used Merc Estates and he purchased a 2005 model from the Merc dealer at Coldstream for £13000.00.It had 51000 miles on the clock,so not a bad deal I suppose? So far so good, and he does not miss the Skoda(which his wife now has!)

As I discussed in another thread I defected to a Ford Mondeo and couldn't be happier so far. No it doesn't have quite the phallic ability of the MB but I reasoned I could live without along with the hassle of main dealers & the associated cost. I am very lucky, my local Ford dealer is fantastic - like a throwback to the 50's, the staff still get paid weekly ;).

For those of you who don't know, my 211 had the dreaded valeo issue and I have never been so consistently stunned by bad service as I was in those last few weeks of ownership.

Once I'd got over the snob issues I felt a sudden relief and was able to make a reasoned and objective choice. I wonder how many MB's, VW's and others will be sold in the next generation once the full impact of their recent reliability/quality issues really bite.

Don't get me wrong, I still lust after MB's for their looks and all the emotive things the marketing people would like me to feel, difference now is that I don't allow this to progress to my cheque book.

Skoda!?

For what it's worth I have an old Skoda Felicia. Or the dog car as the wife and I call it.
Well you wouldn't really want two rotties in a C Class saloon now would you? But back to my point, I think Skoda make great cars, my Super Czech euro bus just won't die! I abuse it constantly, its 10 years old and reliable as a swiss watch...

Still not a Benz though...

Fact is when sat in a line of traffic I've never seen a skoda and thought ooh i'd like to be in that,....

That's my view.

Just borrowed a new diesel Superb as a demonstrator from work. It had a good spec with touchscreen satnav, full leather, parking sensors, auto etc. The interior looked ok. Outside it looked imposing, but bland.

It wasn't a nice car to drive. Slow (2.0l 140BHP), noisy and the auto gearbox wasn't smooth. Good spec, but not great value for a mid £20k's car. Each to their own, but it wasn't for me.

I have had a diesel Octavia VRS for 18 months and as a practical car its great.
Its fast and fun to drive I never get below 35mpg and have had over 50mpg on the motorway. Its not let me down at all and I got 3 years free servicing and warranty so I am very happy with it.
I use the Skoda for day to day trips and the Mercs for pleasure and I find it a very good combination

Very similar to me, the MB is for pleasure but my current workhorse is a Volvo V50, tried the VRS estate and must admit a very composed car and well spec'd only thing that put me off was when I got home Mrs F said there is no way you are parking a F*****g skoda on my drive. Game Over:eek:
