Paddle Shifters... Thoughts?

I hear you.
You're not the first to dislike the button as I have heard quite a few people saying that they are not ideal.
One of the gripes with the buttons is because they are just that - buttons and not paddles.
Can't say I'd be keen fumbling around for buttons either.
However, a lot of people have also retrofitted paddles to replace the buttons, or swapped out the steering wheel for one with paddles.

I here you both there my ml 350 had the stupid buttons , not nowhere near as practical as the paddles on my sl , as stated your fumbling around trying to find them too :mad::mad:

Tried to use them on a few occasions and scared myself :0 .... Having said that, I would like to learn how to use them properly

Haha this is how I felt... Loved it because it was different then shout, crikey I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing but this thread has given me some really good tips so looking forward to having a proper go now I know more. Just read about the buttons too - just had confusing!!

It's frustrating isn't it!! Not only do they get their grubby mitts over it and leave marks (To which my sleeve just won't remove!) but it's just rude!! Who does that? I distract them and try to walk off so they follow!! Haha!!

Yes, the old walk away from the car trick, a good move :thumb:

Ok good, good.
If I hear you using anything but soft materials, I'll find you!!.... and clean it properly.:D

LOL, you sound like Liam Neeson in Taken......

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking to touch your car with an item of clothing I can tell you I don't have the ability to actually stop you. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people who like to touch their car's bodywork with their bare hands. So if you take your sleeve away from your car's bodywork, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will..... show you how to use a microfibre cloth ;) :D

I love that film... I've got to tell you both something though!! A friend of mine passed her test at school & her little red nissan Micra was waiting for her one day with balloons on & ribbons etc. A week later she thought it looked dirty so cleaned it with... A Brillo pad!!!!! :-/ Scuffs, scratches down the lot and she didn't notice because it was wet!!! Ha!!

Nooo!!!! Rashman will have to have a sit down when he reads that ;) :D

Reverting back to the original topic of this thread... I have news. I did it!! I mastered the paddles!! I drove for 30 minutes to a meeting and only panicked at one roundabout.

What I couldn't understand was twice when I was changing down from third to second, just as I pulled it to change down, it automatically did it for me so effectively went straight into first... Jolting hell haha!! Still a bit confused as to why it does it for you when I have auto that does that but then it suppose it has to a certain extent so not to destroy the gearbox or transmission.

I did really enjoy 'thrashing' it up the gears though so that way felt great but coming down the gears was a different story, took some getting used to. Also, I drove home in sport mode back down the motorway and really let it go... Pushed a speed I really don't care to admit to but it drives a blinking dream!! So glad of my choice :) x

Good news, glad they are working out for you and remember it's all good training for that SLK55 coming your way one day :thumb:
