R129 refresh

I suspect that may come in time, although the camera phone picture and poor light probably aren't helping matters.

Fasteners and valves on their way from Kirsten @ Felgenfuchs. I think I'll be picking up the car this weekend, hopefully I can get the wheels built on Sunday. Then the challenge of tyre choice starts...

Nothing yet, been flat out with sorting the house out. Should be ready to collect any day now, merely a case of me having time to get down there and get it.

my sl60 amg is getting alot of things done to it.
I have decided to upgrade the brake calipers.
I am looking at getting the 6 piston front and 4 piston rears from the c63 amg for a good price. Then i will get some nice discs and pads.
Cant wait to see yours all finished, now is the time of the year to do the jobs etc. i wont be touching mine from march onwards so i can actually use it when its nice weather. Saw a sl55 amg the other day the other car i was going to get and im glad i went with the sl60 in the end.
I just feel so much better off in a r129 cant explain it.

Wheels are all assembled, and sat waiting for the Sikaflex to cure. Then wax and seal ready for tyres.

Definitely noted a couple of pointers for next time - painted finish on the dishes is not durable enough, will have to be powdercoated next time (couple of years perhaps). Also it is easier to do with 2, that way they can hold the bolts still while you torque up the other side.

Really needs a daylight shot...can't see me having time for that before Xmas!

That is art my friend!!!!
Well done, would be happy to have them around me during Christmas, just to look at them lol

Some progress made, and a step or 2 backwards. Got the tyres mounted and the wheels on the car. Will get some pics this weekend.

Also this weekend, I have to get the car up in the air. 16 years has taken their toll on the transmission cooler pipes, and one of them let go on Xmas Eve. Back home on a flat bed...but at least it meant I could drink!

Another push over the weekend...got the oil cooler pipe changed, it was a rusty mess and leaking out of several places. Also changed one of the hoses as it wasn't looking too clever.

Replaced some of the dead interior bulbs, got a couple more to go. Also changed out one of the bonnet buffers, the other is going to need some more "abuse" to remove. Got the wood back in, along with a brand new storage pocket to replace the worn one.

Wheels are on, but I think it might benefit from sitting a bit lower. Here's a brief update shot anyway; I'm away on a course next week so won't be able to get some proper images until the weekend.

Looking forward to those pictures

Looking good Drew! A word of caution about lowering if you go down that route, I have scraped the underside of my front AMG bumper several times and so did the garage when they put it on the ramp for the MOT last time....

I had a feeling that would be the case...it's something I'm going to have to think very carefully about. At the moment it's 30mm gap between tyre and arch at the rear, 40-45 at the front.

I think it'll have to be a case of working out what pads are fitted, and then perhaps either use smaller pads, or lessen the 30mm drop on H&Rs with thicker ones.

Great job mate - am curious what the damage has been on your wallet (£) for all this great restoration work?

I've tried not to think too hard about it. If you tot up all the bits in this thread (AMG kit, exhaust & wheels, respray, wood refurb etc) and allow for a new hood at Easter, you probably wouldn't get any change from 6k.

If I throw in the mechanical work over the last 3-4 years I could have probably sold this and bought a passable SL60 for the same money...

...but I'm not sure it would feel as good as mine now does?

You need H&R's in your life.

Check out the MBclub discount on H&R's that I put up.
