The Complete M271 Engine thread. ( Revised and Updated )

Hi all ,

The fuel cooling looks good , i will have to do more research on it before passing my views , anyways i got a small problem which i needed to help with.

as i said earlier in my post , i got a c230 M271/W203 with kleemann boost kit and headers installed , i went ahead and upgraded my ecu also , once i installed the ecu , i took out the K-box ( a piggybag used to send maf/map settings to ecu when you install boost kit/pulley ) the reason for taking it out was that the settings were already updated on the ecu.

the car started with no problem/error but it missfired a bit at idle , i thought it was cold and the idlling settled in a bit , but when i pressed the acceleration it started to missfire ( well i was pushing the accelerator and the car was dying on me and vibrating as well ) .

I got it check on the computer for error but it didnt diagnosed any problem , the missfire or whatever it was still happening a bit less than before , i called kleemann and they checked their software for possible problem but came clean and now they asking me the error code for further assistance but so far no error has been shown on the car or the computer.

I double checked the wiring and even the plugs are new and since computer isnt giving any problem in diagnostic i guess everything else is fine too but the problem is still there and i cant seem to pin point anything or plan my future actions.

i checked it with fuel bar pressure and at idle it was at 3.8 and with acceleration it was just coming over 4 to 4.2 which kleemann guy said was cool and fuel was not the issue.

any help or tips would be highly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Is the MAS reconnected properly after removing the k box?

Hi,

Here is a new update about my problem , i got my car out of the morning cold and drove a mile , later it stoped giving me miss fires ( if u call them miss fires because they dont generate any errors on ecu )

i noticed that once restarted the car , it gave me miss fire on the 1st acceleration test and in other it ran normally without problem , and the same thing happened 10 times , i took the car on drive again for like 30 mins , no problem at all , once came back and restarted the car , it gave the same miss fire once and than all went back to normal.

i will take the car from the mechanic tommorow and use it a bit to see what else there is.

pretty unusual but thats how it is and the workshop guy said that if there was any electric or hardware problem than it would appear the whole time and not at just the start and also the computer diagnose isnt showing any errors at all.

thanks in advance

I have a 211 with a 271 engine , the car has covered 95k . The timing chain has been replaced buy the last owner , but im not sure what milage it was done at , when i bought the car it has 88k .
Should this be changed again ? what is the milage life of these chains .

Someone clever will be along shortly but I understood you never needed to change the timing chain?...

As R2D2, I always thought one never had to change them!

When i bought the car i was told by the previous owner that the cam chain had been changed and it had nearly destroyed the engine , he was not very clear about what had happened as he was not mechanicly minded .
Then last week the car was with an MB specilest getting the transmission serviced and the owner of the garage asked about the cam chain . He said that he changes these often , so it got me thinking if i should change mine again . Its gonna cost over 400 euro for parts and labour , so i dont want changing this without need , ive already spent over 400 changing the rad and servicing the transmission

Hi Everyone ,

Been off too testing alot after my last problem , the miss firess n all was hard to live it but than kleemann told me to do default initialization fron das ( merc computer ) basically it removes all ecu adaptations ( not the settings ) after that i drove the car for like 300 + km aggressively and following are the results :

1. That car is eating alot of fuel with ecu upgrade than with kbox , it used to be around 8 to 9 in city per litre , now its 5 to 6 , on highway it used to be around 13 to 15 , now its around 8.

2. the ecu upgrade increased the rpm by 250 so the car shifts on 6200ish while factory does at 6000 , i thought it was a good thing because with header/boost kit i have more power and with more rpm i will gain a little but instead of that now it creates a little lag after 6000 until shifts at 6200ish , and in 1st 2 gears the lag is little noticeable but on 3rd gear and onwards it gets really laggy.

3. the miss fires have gone after ecu initialization.

4. the ecu upgrade promised around 15 hp increase , on my car i was told around 10 but i dont see that increase at all , maybe the rpm lag is creating the delay and making me think that the car is slow but atm i am really thinking the car is on par without the ecu upgrade if i ignore the rpm lag.

i will test a little more before getting back to factory settings on ecu and like i said before dyno is not available here atm due to some fault.

i am still not sure what to do , either get factory ecu settings back or just get the extra rpm thing off my ecu and hope that my ecu will show that 10 hp gain.

P.s : car details are on previous posts but i will post them again , c200 k w203,2003. kleemann header / k&n air filter / SC pulley by kleemann / kleemann ecu upgrade/ free flow exhaust system by Remus.

Hi I am in Hong Kong and just installed the sprint booster 2 days ago. The feel is wonderful, looks like driving a different vehicle.

Can anyone suggest the next "safe" step if I want to increase the hp a little bit? Mine is a 2003 W203 C200K.

Many thanks.

hi ,

u have the same vehicle like mine , just get the kleemann headers and boost kit , thats around 45 hp we talking about and its all safe also.

no errors no hassle.

Thanks curly.:)

How much is the parts cost for kleemann headers and boost kit? After the installation will the car computer need to do some modification on the program?

In case it vanishes it says:

"Whether to replace your broken supercharger or in case you want to tune your engine (see below)!
Factory installation of the rare supercharger that comes to cars powered with M271 Evo (W203 C230 with 192 hp)

Sale of the supercharger Eaton M45 model fitted to specific vehicles from Mercedes-Benz series W211, W203, W209, W204, R171 equipped with 1.8l engine type M271!

The supercharger is new and never used on a car!
It has been tested on a bench with a special machine to ensure that it works as should and is ready to be fitted without any hesitation!

Mercedes-Benz equips its vehicles with the M271 engine with various turbochargers, which either differ in the mechanism (trident or spring) driven by the supercharger or the pulley size (large or small)!

This particular supercharger is Part Number A2710902780, which is driven by spring and comes exclusively in motor M271 Evo (the engine's W203 C230 Kompressor with 192 hp) One of the main reasons for the difference in horsepower compared to the other M271 (143 and 163 horses) as they are fitted in vehicles such the W203 series models C180 Kompressor and C200 Kompressor is the size of the supercharger pulley which is smaller, the pulley is in all other superchargers in size (internal diameter) 71mm
while in A 271 090 27 80 size (internal diameter) is 65mm thus raises pressure on the same engine speed!

It's a very good and proven solution to increase horsepower!
In a CLK200 Kompressor W209 MY2005 with 163 horses it has been observed an increase in hp by simply changing the stock supercharger (A 271 090 20 80) in 186 horses and it was on dyno before with 170 hp! Gains were at about 16 hp!
In general you should expect an increase of 15 to 20 hp!

Another good thing is the operation of the supercharger which is clearly quieter than that ofsuperchargers with a trident!

Changing your supercharger (A2710901780, A2710902080, A2710902380 A2710902680, and the large pulley) with A2710902780 is the safest upgrade you can make to your engine and always stay within the manufacturer's specifications!
Please note that the supercharger pulley is not an aftermarket product as these that occasionally appear on eBay!
The pulley is pressed on the supercharger and it is stock just like from factory just like the one you buy from a Mercedes Benz Dealer!
Nothing is changed, it is 100% new and stock!

Eaton supercharger for vehicles of Mercedes-Benz M271 engine
Part Number: A2710902780
Pulley Diameter: 65mm

Supercharger is new and unused!
Has never been installed on an engine!
It is tested for proper function!
It has some surface marks created during transport which in no case affect its working state! "

£750 for 15-20 bhp though???

After a happy afternoon on the ECP checking out these numbers, I can confirm:

A2710902080 ("the large pulley" ) is standard on
C180k W203 143bhp
C200k w203 163bhp
SLK 200k 161 bhp

A2710902780/A2710902180 "the small pulley" is standard on:

C230k w203 193bhp
C180k W204 154bhp
C200k W204 181bhp
E200k W211 181bhp

Hi R2D2,

If I change the pulley (2003 W203 C200k), do the car computer need to remap?

Seems need to pay a lot (relatively) to get a slight increase in hp.......

Normally the tuners recomend that you run the car on 98 ron fuel in order to make sure that the engine doesnt run lean by running extra boost when using any of the pulley kits.
A couple of people on here have run K Box if that is what Kleeman are calling their boost kit.

hi i have cclass w203 cdi 2.2 2004 facelift last night when i was coming home i was doing 70mph and when i slowed down i couldnt got no more the 40 mph with the gas right down still will not go over 40mph
