Upgrade of Becker Map Pilot (with new features)

Piff said:
Joined this thread a bit late as we have just bought an SLK with Audio 20. I've just bought a Becker Map Pilot on e-bay and it should arrive next week.

I note that it can be updated within 45 days of registration. I presume this is a map update rather than a firmware/software update.

I'm guessing that the maps are updated every year.

What is the latest map update:dk: and is there one due soon:dk:

Last update was March 2013, they state updates are every 6 months so in theory next is September(ish), they are a bit hit and miss by all accounts

The last 2 updates have been both firmware/app and maps, you will find the maps are quite out of date if you are used to 'TomTom' style updates but still very usable. Think around 2 years out of date

If you tend to speed the speed camera option might be useful but by default you can get it to warn you verbally at either 1, 5 or 10mph above the speed limit which I personally prefer, it seems to warn of cameras that aren't even on route and in built up areas it can trigger for no apparent reason and can get confusing. It's not a lot if you don't end up using it but if you don't tend to speed its not really worth it IMHO.

I've upgraded mine no problem. Only thing I can see that's significantly different is the viewing angle. Now there's more road and less sky, whereas before I had it around 50-50.

I can't remember how to change the view, or whether you can at all now?

It all updated in about an hour, and the firmware update took 2 attempts.

I bought my Becker and installed free upgrade 2.5
I can not enter 7 digit post codes, just 4 which gives the town. can anyone help.
Thanks.

Just upgraded my Becker (free 45 day) and still unable to enter 7 digit post codes.
Any ideas?

The upgrade should be 2.5.26- You sound as though you have upgraded the maps but not the firmware (which isn't subject to any 45 day limit)

Received the unit this morning. Updating maps/software/firmware took hours.

Just plugged it in and haven't got 7 digit postcodes.

Do I need to update firmware again?

Becker Map Pilot GPS freezing [SOLVED]

[SOLVED] Got a support e-mail from Becker after two weeks with an additional reset procedure, deleting nearly all files on the device and then restoring everything using content manager. No feedback on my firmware question though.
This did not solve the problem either; but meanwhile the loss of satellite signal got worse and I ended up having no signal at all anymore.
I ended up suspecting the hardware, took my car to the dealership where they confirmed the GPS receiver (in the roof antenna) broke down. With the GPS receiver replaced now, all seems to be fine again. End of story.

Careful! Since I upgraded mine from Firmware R22.3.1205 to R26.3.0130
and Software 2.0.51 to 2.5.26 (with associated Q4 2011 maps), I seem to be having issues with GPS position fixes. From time to time, the device seems to 'freeze' its GPS location. At that point it says no (0) satellites and no GPS signal.

I am not 100% sure yet the issue is due to the Map Pilot device (who knows the in-car GPS antenna cable could have a connection issue), but it strongly feels like an issue with the latest firmware R26.3.0130. Reason for that? When it freezes, I can't get it to work anymore (tried all possible resets), but the next morning it usually works again. As if after x hours with no power (?) the GPS position resets its self ("cold boot" / initial fix?).

Have also tried restoring to Software 2.0.51 (still facing issues however), but that doesn't restore the previous firmware I think.

Prior to this upgrade (did another upgrade earlier), all worked fine. Never had problems.

I sent a service/support question to [email protected]. Will post here when I have more details and/or a solution.

check the firmware/software version and if its not 2.5.26 update it.
The older version did 7 digit postcodes but once you put the 4 th you needed to press the return button to each time to enter the last three digits. The latest version lets you do 7 digits like it should do.

Just checked
firmware/software is 2.5.26
maps Q212

I've just tried to download the firmware again & it tells me that it is already in my "library"

Found the library - it's full of loads of file folders and I wouldn't have a clue which ones to delete.

Not obvious in becker content manager how to re-load the same download.

Just put the unit back in the car, and although I made no changes when connected to the pc, it is now doing full 7 digit postcodes:wallbash:

However, on entering a postcode it finds the location ok - example home address which is a town/village a few miles from Ipswich.
When I go to reload it from "last destinations" it is just listed as "Ipswich"
That's going to get confusing when the list fills up and many of the destinations have the same description.

You can rename the last locations and also change their position in list

I am taking delivery of a new C Class soon. I am puzzling over whether a Becker Map Pilot is worth the money. Read so much on the forum which appears negative. Also I am an Apple user so will need to persuade someone to do the updates for me. Becker told me they have no plans to enable Apple. Currently use a Garmin which has free map updates quarterly, traffic and speed cameras. All the updates are a doddle. Fits to the dashboard with a mat and of course a wire to power it. Would so like an inbuilt unit but......???

Becker has been spot on for me. Yes it's a little confusing at first trying to sr software and firmware but it works well and the integration makes it well worth while.

I'm having a bit of trouble. Maybe one of you have encountered the same issue.

When I first plugged my Becker unit into the computer, it copied all of the various library files needed, and ran fine. From there, it asked me to create a Login & Password. I did so, but then it doesn't connect to the Becker website.

I am unable to continue my registration, thus unable to download the new maps or software upgrades.

Any suggestions? Below is a picture of the error I'm given.

I haven't registered officially yet, so the Online Shop hasn't even received a password from me.

That message appears right after a clean install of Becker Content Manager. Once you enter an email address, password & confirmation password. From there, you are supposed to be taken to Becker's online registration page. But I get this error instead.

I'm having exactly the same issue, I have uninstalled content manager and reinstalled but to no avail. Watching his thread with interest.

Why not go to the website and register first and confirm that's works then try connecting device and updating after.

I seem to remember I did it this way round as I wanted to read up on it before I actually had the unit
