Visit to South Yorks Police Road Crime Unit - 18th Nov

Well I have been trying to arrange this for a while but I am pleased to say that today South Yorkshire Traffic Police have kindly agreed to us visiting them at their Road Crime Operations HQ which is located in between Rotherham and Sheffield.

This will be an evening visit and will consist of a presentation on Advanced Driving and Riding (they will cover bikes as well as they are all one team and also want to make car drivers more aware of bikers) and Roadcraft and then an informal question and answer session discussion where we are free to ask anything we wish on the work they do. They will then take us to the garage to show us all their "Toys" and whilst they were very apologetic that they don't run MB they say they have a fine array of weaponary to show us including Volvo, BMW, Mitsubishi EVO, Subaru Impreza, 4x4's and various motorcyles used in the unit.

Knowing some of the people that work on Road Traffic in South Yorkshire, I'm sure they will make this an evening for us to remember and it will be enjoyed by all

Provisional dates booked with them are 12th November or 19th November 2009. Number is a Maximum of 15 (First come first served)

I need to confirm back to them before the end of next week when we are going so if you are interested please add your name to the list below with what date you are available.

If you are bringing younger drivers are there any specifics you would like included I'm sure the guys will cover everything but if there is something important you want to get accross just let me know and I'll make sure they cover it. If take up remains as slow as this think I'll bring my daughter too.

Should be quite interesting this, thanks for sorting flanaia. I personally have a real gripe with 'traffic cops', as i see them outside my work on a regular basis and they seem to be quite unproductive. This will give us an insight in to what they really do and hopefully change my perceptive.

No problem it's a pleasure and I know what you mean but hopefully this will give us a better insight into their workings. I'll post the full location details and time later when I've confirmed with them. Will also try to think of somewhere to meet up for those that fancy a coffee first.

Update

Just had a call from South Yorkshire Police regarding our visit to them arranging what we would like out of the evening so the agenda is as follows

1. Presentation aimed at young/inexperienced/new drivers and those wishing to advance their skills in Roadcraft called "Drive for Life"
2. Presentation on The Work of the Road Crime Unit
3. Question & Answer session
4. Tour of the Operations complex
5. Tour of the garage and demonstration of the vehicles
6. Demonstration of some of the other tools used in road policing.

They have also asked if we could move forward a day to Wednesday 18th November 2009 and to start at 6pm. The visit will last 2.5 - 3 hours depending on questions.

If you have your name on the list could you please confirm that the 18th is suitable or not for you. If it's not for the majority then they can still accomodate us on the 19th but we won't be able to do everything listed above due to operational reasons. Sorry for the change of date but they are doing their best to make our visit worthwhile.
