My 57 plate C220CDI auto is now due a B service and a MOT. The car has done 35k.

Just got a quote from Stratstone/MB Skipton and they have quoted £383 (originally they quoted £477) for the B service and £30 for the MOT, is this the expected price to pay for a B service?

The B service includes new: engine oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter. The brake fluid won't be changed as it was done last December (it had a A service then). I asked about the auto transmission fluid replacement and MB Skipton told me that this needs doing at 37k (next A service). I was expecting them to tell me that the 5 speed auto box is sealed for life and this won't need doing- this is what I have read on these forums.

My local indy might be able to do the same work for about £50-100 less (tbh- I didn't check), for the peace of mind I'd rather let MB Skipton do the work (they will also do any outstanding recall work should there be any).

Im the same as you B service now due at 38000 but im on a service plan which works out at £275. I asked about autobox and was told it was sealed for life would like to know if another MB dealer says the same.
The guys on here say its should be done at this service and they are right the fluid should be changed (oil dosnt last forever

Put your cars' details into here and see what comes up: Mercedes-Benz ESS

ATF change seems to come and go.

As Rory said..

Also:

1. Shop around, prices vary between MB dealers.

2. MB service will renew the anti-rust warranty and Mobilo for another year, so it has this going for it.

3. Said that, I am now having my car serviced at PCS Horndean (see: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/general-discussion/96004-pcs-horndean-olly-jack.html ). They charge less than an MB dealer, but for me this is not the point - the MB main dealer who did the previous A Service did a very poor job and overcharged me - twice, while PCS did fantastic job and did not charge more than they said they would.

4. As far as I am aware, both A Service and B service are essentially oil and filter change plus additional checks. The Air Filter and Fuel Filter come under additional work and are needed based on mileage and time, and not tied-in to either the A or B Service schedule. As such, these are charged separately to the A or B Service.

5. Bellow are some service items classified as additional work (i.e. are not part of the A or B Service):

Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Cabin Filter
Brake fuel change
ATF change
Brake Pads and and Discs change

6. The 5-speed is not sealed for life, in spite of some rumours circulating on MB forums... The dealer was right regarding the 37k, however I would bring this forward and carry this now at 35k / 4 years. Won't do the gearbox any harm. Cabin filter is part of the B service - I think that's the only difference in parts used. Some schedules say to change the key batteries, but others don't.

For the car that's under contract, they won't do the ATF change if the ESS doesn't call for it. But the dealer will tell you it needs doing when selling you ServiceCare.
I had that problem with the old ServicePlus - I was regaled with tales of massive amounts of work and consequent bills to encourage me to take ServicePlus. In reality my car has needed incredibly little servicing.

My local indi would charge £120 for the B service, using very high quality Millers oil. Where does £383 come from?

£120 for a B service? Even for an indy I think that's way too cheap.

As far as I know the B service is a major service, does the £120 your indy charge include parts, labour and VAT?

I thought it was oil and filter x3. If it was a major service then it would be more like £250. I had a major service quote plus cambelt on my impreza for £300. The dealer quoted £550.

Update:

Got the car back after the B service & MOT this evening- total cost £380 (for both the service and MOT).

Had the following items replaced as part of the B service:

Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Cabin Filter
Oil & oil filter
Battery in the key

Next service I have done at a MB dealer, I will be supplying my own oil- £65 for 6.5 litres of Shell Helix 5w-40!

Was given a B160 as a courtsey car- lets just say I wasn't impressed with that...I was happy to get my own car back!

Actually that's not a bad price from the dealer.
