w211 Juddering at 1200 revs

The hell with that - this is a known problem, there is a M-B service bulletin about it. If the car's under warranty they should do it under the warranty - no argument there! I took loads of crap over mine before I went staight to the top - Dieter Zetsche - fax no +49 (711) 1722244

I dont have the problem, but do I believe, have a valeo radiator fitted to my car. Mileage is 33k car out of warranty. Should I do anything to ensure that this problem does not affect me?

In answer to this question, if you have a valeo rad and your build date is before 30-09-03 then I would fit the new rad with the white circle on the oil cooler.

Prevention is better than cure

The dealer has driven the car and can feel the juddering. MB won't cover the glycol test and I'm being charged £156 for it. I guess depending on the outcome it could be worth it........

Seems odd you agree there's a problem but then charge to find out what when the car's under warranty. The car is a March 04 model and from what i can see doesn't have the Valeo radiator.

Have you checked out the build date of the car

Dealer has called to say its a new radiator and torque convertor. Bill is £2800 Merc say they will meet 50% labour and 75% parts. I have the extended warranty but apparently whilst this says mercedes and is on their papers is handled by a third party? Dealer waiting to hear if they will meet the rest of the bill approx £750......

mercedes customer satisfaction? Yeah right...

I've put the vin no in but can't seem to see how you find the build date. The car was delivered new to me march 04 It shows a delivery date of 16. 02 on the system....

I should have put 30-09-03 would you care to PM me the VIN number as the fault that you have should not apply after this date, that is my concern

you've got mail.... Dealer saying MB extended warranty won't cover the bill. This then leaves me with £156 for the glycol test plus minimum of £750 for my 50% of the labour and 25% of the parts.

This means we won't be able to get away this bank holiday which allows me time to pursue the claim through other channels. Left the car at the dealers as it was being serviced and borrowed the pool car. I'll use that for the weeks ahead whilst pursuing the claim.

Small claims court I guess but I really hope common sense will prevail.

Having a month between build and delivery for those particular months is similar to our experience. Ours was built in January 2004 and delivered February.

Interested in how you get on ...can't believe MB wont pick this up..

John, the car must have been built before 30-09-03
I fully understand what your saying and the reasons for saying it. Most of these cars are made to order but it is possible a dealer bought this particular one and had it in the showroom, but that would not explain the 16.02? If it was indeed built on the date you suggest then it will also not have the nano paint technology?

If I took delivery of a NEW W211 E-class in March 2004 then I would not be a happy bunny if it did not have this new paint technology. All UK 2004 onwarrds E-class had this paint. I say UK vehicles only because the 4Matics were the exception to this rule and they are not available in RHD format :)

Regards
John

Thank you John for that post, this also means that we can no longer tell people that they are in the clear when they ask, I feel terrible as I have told 30 or more people that they are in the clear and they may not be

I think your advice has been spot on and very accurate, this thread raises more questions than it does answers?

You allege this is a known problem and yes it is for older 211's. Can you please tell us the bulletin you are referring to that suggests this fault applies to this specific vehicle?

Question Time :)
Good morning Lexon,
We are all totally on your side regarding this issue but you have raised a few questions that have been niggling me.

Was this a brand new vehicle?

Did you order it through your local Mercedes-Benz Main Dealer?

What is the paint colour code? It can be found on the B-pillar and will be three numbers possibly preceded by a letter.

When did you order the car and was it built for you OR did the dealer have it in stock?

Did YOU ask for a Service Plus Warranty?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm an inquisitive old devil.

Good luck resolving this issue,

Regards
John

Dealer saying MB extended warranty won't cover the bill.

Maybe a dumb question, but what the hell is the point of a warranty if it doesnt cover major mechanical problems like this?

What I would like to know now is.

When a car within this group has had a repair, the new rad can be identified by a white round sticker on the oil cooler section.

Do new cars built after the said date (30-09-03) come with the same sticker on the top of the cooler.

Cars affected are,All built after the 30-09-03
203 with engine 111,112,271,611,612,990,646.
209 ----------- 112,113,271,612.
211 ------------ 113,271,628,647,648.

This is important as some way is needed to identify cars that may have the problem

I think I may have the bulletin. I will do dome digging.

JOHN. Send me your chassis number via PM and I will tell you your build date.

We already have the delivery date, that being some 5 ½ months after the end of the mod date.
