w211 Juddering at 1200 revs

The leaking fluid is from the auto box. Its originating from the connection to the lever.....a known issue. Its been adressed as I was sure it would be.

It does appear the the fault with the box is an ongoing issue to vehicles after 30th September. I'm wondering if towing with the car has highlighted the weakness.

Has anyone got any documentation that corroborates that? It's a crazy thought that towing might have contributed to the damage, we are talking of a large engined vehicle that should be ablke to cope, but what about the transmission, how well is that designed to cope with the effects of towing?

I'll see what I can find out :)

Regards
John

The max towing miles is 30miles at 30 miles per hour.

The reason for this is that most autos do not have a rear pump on the box, some MB cars now have this again after some 40 years of without

:) Good afternoon Malcolm,
Silly old me thought we were talking about towing as opposed to being towed? :o You have reminded me to carry out some research research this juddering on newer 211's.

Back to the drawing board

I read the above post by lexon as towing with the car..ie = a trailer or caravan.

Yup,
I have a very good friend in the good old US of A and he has as usual come up trumps: :D

This service bulletin came out in March 2006 and supersedes the one that specifically states this only applies to models built before 09/2003. If you are still asked for a contribution then I have the full documentation.

Date:
March 24, 2006
Order No.:
P-B-27.55/50f
Supersedes:
P-B-27.55/50e dated March 6, 2006

I was referring to me towing a caravan. The caravan has an unladen weight of 1250kgs and max weight of 1520kgs well within the limits of the car according to available data. I towed the caravan hundreds of miles on the Continent during the sweltering summer of 2002 in temperatures of 42c with my BMW 5series with no problem. When I acquired the E class I was advised the car didn't require an additional oil cooler providing I didn't exceed the towing limits.

I have no knowledge that towing a caravan within the limits may have been a factor but obviously all systems on a car are under increased stress due to the additional loads placed on it.

Car back from the dealers now and running well.

Now this thread has scared me  . My car is registered on 03/01/2004 as its 1st reg date but the vin check on the links mentioned gives the build/delivery date as 16th august 2003  . not that any problems have surfaced but incase they do.. how do we check if the radiator is changed? I could not find any white sticker but any pictures will help.

Also, would it be worth taking the Mercedes service plus plan instead of extended warranty? Any ideas on the costs involved? Warranty direct has quoted £375 for a 1yr cover for upto 5k per claim... not sure what the dealers will offer.

a bit worried now.. how come there is a 5 month gap between the build date and registeration date? maybe it was a demonstrator or something but its had only 1 previous owner.

What do you guys suggest I should do to keep myself a bit safe..?

probably just sat in the docks or something, doesnt mean a huge amount...

You could change the rad if it has not got a white sticker on the oil cooler as a preventive measure

this is the second one to come along with an earlier build date

can anyone explain where exactly this white sticker is as im always looking at them in auctions and have not yet spotted a white sticker!

First bit of advice. Stop worrying.

Reason for the gap I would suggest is the car could possibly have been ordered by a dealership who had it for sale in their showroom for a few months. I dread to think how old some of the really massed produced cars are before they are sold.

Radiator.
Again stop worrying, what will be will be and the radiator might never leak and I must confess to not giving this issue a second thought.

Warranty.
You pays tour money and takes your chances. A number of us have taken out ServicePlus and we all believe this is as good as it gets, but there are acouple of members who are worried about the 'What if' type scenario but the only example of a claim being refused is when someone deliberately broke something  :D then tried to claim for a replacement. However it is still all a big worry. :)

Sorry I can't be of any further help

Take care and stop worrying :) :)

Thanks John, I am trying not to worry after your kind words :)

But what does the sticker look like? sorry, but I may sound a bit daft but I cant understand in such sophesticated engine as to where is the radiator or where is the oil cooler? I do somewhat understand traditional engines but this does not look like one from any angle :bannana: .

Thanks.

Thanks John, I am trying not to worry :)
We have a February 2004 E-class and I'm a good kid saying don't worry because having a ServicePlus contract has perhaps made me quite blasé about this topic because if anything goes wrong then Mercedes will foot the bill.

These vehicles are quie complex beasts with all their electronic gizzmo's and I personally would not be so flippant if I never had the servicing contract as any problem might prove very expensive. If your vehicle still comes under the Mobilo umbrella I would give serious consideration to a warranty and if your not aware ServicePlus also includes services and MOT's. Your vehicle would probably need to be checked out by a main dealer prior to acceptance though?

Unfortunately I can't help with the sticker but try doing a search for the Glycol test as I have posted numerous pictures.

Good luck with the decision

I wont mind a service plus. from What I have read, its around £60-80 per month as I am not a very high milage driver (12-15k per year). will checkout a couple of stealerships (I really liked this word - hope its not a patent) tomorrow.
