What car did you pass your driving test in?

a Nissan Micra... what a nice lil run around.. do miss it.. as it was wonderful in its own weird little way

1966. A BSM Vauxhall Viva HA. First car I owned was a 1954 Austin A40 Somerset.

Hi Druk. My Dad had a Sumerset. OOV 410 was the reg. Do I remember rightly it was column change. I used to sit and shift gears in it sat on a cushion. Engine not running of course.

I passed my car test in a SWB landrover
then hgv 3 in a Bedford TK
HGV 2 in An AEC Millitant
It was a right dog to drive

1987 in the very last testing slot before the Christmas holidays, in an awe-inspiring Nissan Sunny 1.4, oh the ignominy...

That being said, the other cars in the household at the time were a Citroën 2CV, Citroën Visa and MG Midget. The Sunny felt very civilised!

And to all those Capri fans out there I too had a classmate who took his test in a Capri (2 litre) which his dad had completely overhauled and resprayed for him in black as a present. He failed. I seem to remember being very supportive but I am sure there was a deep down part of me that chuckled.

That's the one John. BJM 516 was mine. Funny how you always remember the first ;):D. Cost me £20...sold it years later for £17. Now that's depreciation for you.

I changed the column change to a floor shift from an A40 Devon. First major fiddle with a car and been at it ever since.

learnt to drive in a micra. Another learner trashed my instructors car the night before. option was to cancel or borrow a car....so i borrowed my freinds daimler double six manual......and was a little surprised at how fast it was....lol. passed even though it was in BL "turd Brown" with matching interior!

A ford fiesta! Lovely car to drive!

Learned and passed my test in the driving school's Hillman Hunter in 1972
Never felt moved to own one.

In 1985 I taught Mrs J. to drive in a 1963 rebuilt Mk 1 Mini 850.
Pull-string door handles, magic wand gear lever ... Examiner must have blinked twice.
Anyway - She passed first time.

This was quickly followed by the dreaded words ...
"Can I have a go in the Chevy then !! ??"
(2.1/2 ton, 5.7 litre V8, LHD Chevy full-size)

I reluctantly said YES.

My dad's favourite car (ever) was the Cortina 1600E.
Lovely car.

I passed my test in 1960 in a Mk1 Austin A40. At the time, a great car.

I passed my motorcycle test in 1973 at the second attempt on a Honda CB175. I passed my car test in 1974 at the first attempt in a Hillman Super Imp, the same colour as this one:

For me it was the instructors brand new (1973) Austin 1300. I bought the car for my wife 7 years later. It was dying by then !

Funnily enough, my intstructor had an Austin 1100, and lived opposite. The morning of my test, he told me his car wasn't back from the workshop, so I spent what should have been my last lesson looking for a car to use. The speedo didn't work in my mum's Hillman Minx, and I ended up with a Wolseley 1500 from a mechanic at the main Ford dealership, where I worked. In 1971, both were old cars then, and by the look on the examiners face when he saw the Wolseley, I was surprised that I passed.
