What do you want to know?

Quick one for when you get back JBD.
Can COMAND be retro fitted to replace the useless Garmin rubbish?
Thanks :-)

What is wrong with the Garmin out of interested? I have been told that it has live traffic.

Not that I'm aware of! I quite like the Garmin personally, only got lost once.

JBD I have been struggling a bit with the garmin map pilot ... Updates are a struggle with my PC (Files corrupted!) and doesn't agree with my Mac at all! NB any further telematics updates?

Sent from my iPhone using MBClub UK

I'll have a look when I get back. If you call your local dealership and ask if they have a star expert, they should be able to advise

It does, but it just doesn't do anything else modern sat navs do. Like allow personal POI's and such. Although you can follow the Garmin procedure for loading them and all seems ok, MB are suppressing them somehow and they won't show. (Unless you trick it. But they still don't work correctly) They have also stripped out much of the functionality of the Garmin system this is based on (Nuvi) like various settings (map layers, alerts etc), personal folders and the like.

It's cr@p TBH, and nothing like what a premium brand car should have IMO.
And it just doesn't work very well, there is a long stretch of the M180 were it puts your car about 50 feet off the road like they do for new roads; the M180 opened in 1977!......

I have had my own POI's in every car sat nav I've had since 1996, bog standard stuff and speed cameras, MB say they suppress these because they are not legal in some countries. Sorry, I don't give a toss! In the UK they are legal, and I want them in my own property. Every other manufacturer has location specific firmware/software for things like this, why doesn't MB?

Sorry, got a bit of a sad-on ATM LOL. I do love the car, it's awesome, but this garbage really lets it down. To the point I am contemplating ripping it out and fitting my own touch screen system in its place.

It does get you there, so as a very basic sat nav it's ok. But I can get more functionality by spending £40 at Halfrauds.

:-(

Of course, this could all be fixed by the launch of the promised CarPlay.....
Any news JBD?

I have read that the garmin on MB gets three years of updates but I have also read that only one update within 60 days is allowed unless you cough up more money. Anyone like to enlighten me which is true.

I have to say that I have a portable Garmin with lifetime updates that no doubt will be going back on the screen at some point but I would like to get at least a couple of years out of the built in garmin.

Steering codes
PTC AUXILIARY HEATER £0

I see that this has now appeared in the options list for the c350e. Is this steering wheel heating and why would it need selecting to add the option to the car on the configurator when it seems to cost nothing?

Not sure why its showing under steering.. but a PTC AUXILIARY HEATER is normally the "instant" hot air.

THec350e comes standard with the pre-climate control

Yeah that's got nothing to do with the steering, it's the the pre entry climate

Strange then that it doesnt appear in the standard options for the c350e unless the box is ticked.

JBD - sorry if you're still away in the sun this can of course wait:

I'm looking at a nearly new ML250 AMG Line but 'Drive the deal' is offering up prices around 42500 for a new car and guess what - main dealer near me has 6 month old model with 8k on the clock for the similar money.

I suppose the DTD figures are tight margins for the dealer with little negotiation left but I wonder how much I can expect them to be prepared to discount the used car by? We all have an opinion on depreciation but sticker price on this car is rather optimistic? I know if I roll up there they would say there is a deal to be done, either over-value my car or trim the one for sale to meet a monthly payment I give them.

I will be renewing a pcp which has a few more months to run, will I be in a stronger position near the end of the contract? With that in mind when will uk stock of w166 250's dry up?

I'm also wondering about timing all of this with the GLE replacement potentially generating even bigger discounts? DTD had 33% off an Audi A8 yesterday! (not that I want one)

Cheers

I think you would have to be nuts to buy a ML now for that sort of money. If you really want one get a 14 plate for £30-33k, but spending £40k on a 15 plate now?? Hmm?

New GLE 250 sport with prem plus can be had for £48k.

GLE arriving in 6 weeks, so not long. You'll get a much better PCP rate on a new one, it'll be cheaper than nearly new. That drive the deal offer seems strong. We're almost out of ML's. I'd get the new one or wait for GLE

I reckon a new GLE will come in cheaper a month if using PCP than a new ML even with £10k off list, and certainly cheaper than a used one at £40k.

I enquired about a 2014 ML250 SE yesterday that was at just under £30k and Lombard were only offering a residual of £15k on that car in 36 months. Now, when I was looking before xmas they offered me a residual of £17k on a 13 plate ML250 after 48 months.
So looks like prices have been adjusted quite sharply.

Just as a matter of interest, I also got figures yesterday on a 2014 Range Rover Sport, it was £52,000 with 12k miles on it, and they offered me a residual of £31,000 after 48 months.
This meant with £4500 deposit it was coming in at £499 a month.

To be honest, I then stopped looking at ML250s! haha

Eyup JBD.
:-)

Tonight the MB download manager has 'downgraded' the Garmin software back to V2.3
Any idea/info why?
Is it in response to the huge amount of disatsfaction with it? Admittedly not so much over here, but it's a big thing on the U.S. forums.

It still doesn't work properly though, still won't show POI icons on the map or alert correctly for them. And I have noticed that my car icon is often 'off road' by upto 50 feet! Causing it to constantly tell me to drive on to the nearest road!

I have it booked in for this on the 7th, I'm not happy with it at all TBH (sat nav, not the car)

Just wondered if you had heard anything, the disquiet in the U.S. has lead to Garmin publicly stating that although the system is based on their platform, they are not responsible for the version fitted in MB cars in any way....

Thanks :-)

I have no idea! I'm back at work next tuesday, so will endeavour to find an answer for you then

Thanks JBD, problem I assume is the new GLE is not likely to be discounted enough for my budget, wife says I can't go above £500/m who wears the trousers eh?
Do you think DTD figure about as low as it will go once GLE is out?

GlzzE - I appreciate your thoughts! I know from your recent posts you know a bit about ML's too.
Seems it's all about residuals for chaps like me using mainly finance deals and only a few k deposit.
Unless the new ML is discounted even more the depreciation I'll be financing doesn't make it a very good deal.
I find it even harder to get my head around second hand prices and of course finance rates not as low
I just thought I'd better look into this in the next month or so as the ML's run out. Otherwise get those new tyres and discs etc done and wait till end of pcp term, as you say - strong RRS residuals could tempt me...
