What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Received a FAKRA cable to find out whether I can get a picture on the Comand. I'll fit it later. Stripped the heater I bought for spares. Six steppers, all the linkages, sensors, Blower, resistor and matrix as well as an evap and TX valve all for £25. Now I know for certain that there will never be another problem with the heater! Painted another trace on the HRW and worked out how the video in motion dongles work. My CANBUS analyser will be able to help me design a set of codes to make the Comand think it is sitting still so I can work the reverse camera. I doubt if I can access the video switch remotely but I don't mind having a use for the button if I need it. I could always wire a relay across it, controlled by the reverse message on the CANBUS if I wanted to automate it.

Took the blower motor out (again) to oil it as it was chirping.

I did it 3 months ago (as well as cleaned it and the filter which were both gross) and thought I'd cracked it but I guess I didn't go a great job.

Hopefully this 'fix' lasts longer - I really don't wanna spend hundreds on a spinning fan motor...

Depending on the bearing, you may find it needs an overnight soak in oil to refresh a sintered bearing. Graphite lubricants are pretty useful as well.

Full service, brembo discs and pads all round, aircon condensor, new Bosch 10 intercooler pump, rocker breather oil leaks fixed.. Back to full health.

This morning I cracked and took it to the hand car wash.

I've has the block paved drive acid cleaned to get rid of all the builder's crap. I've brushed in new sand but need to seal it before the next car wash - otherwise I get stains from brake dust residue & tyre black.

But before I do that I've been informed I need to finish planting the back garden and jetwash the patio before this evening's visitors arrive. Which means I'll have to unblock one of the drains.

Getting this house from 98% to 99% finished is hard work but at least my wife had suddenly got the gardening but and is speeding things up.

Worked out how to wire the short stub of cable poking out of the IPod interface into the car. Result. Now I need to fit it properly. Collected the replacement rack.

Yesterday we were part of a photoshoot for an upcoming article on W202 AMG's in Modern Classics magazine.

We had my early 95' C36, an early 98' ex MB press car C43 (& forum member, ex car), & my C43 5.4 (also forum members, ex car)
Have dropped in the MBClub plenty of times, so hopefully that makes it to the editorial too.

Very foggy start to the day, delayed things a bit

Cleared by 10:00, but then spent the day dodging showers

Chirping gone, but I’m getting a weird whining now which I don’t think was there before, so it’s probably on it’s way out and will have to purchase a new one...

You win! Looks like a lot of fun. Love them in that blue/black colour and, of course, in 55 form :)

EDIT; just had a look and my first C43 is still going strong. W86 ODM if anyone on here has it. Just looked up my second one T502 NCH. Still going too! Both have had a fair bit of welding underneath at various points. It's great to see people keeping them going.

Installed the Ipod interface and took stock. The car has in the few weeks I have owned it had brakes, exhaust, thermostat, battery, front SAM a later Comand CD, Ipod and bluetooth interfaces and repairs to the door Ir receiver and HRW threads, replacement jacking pads and a thorough Starring. Every week it gets better to drive and use. I have spent less than £1500 and have the nicest car I have owned since my first 202. Lucky me.
I had planned to keep this for a year before buying a yet newer one but I like this car. Provided it doesn't get pranged, it will be a keeper.

Started the deep clean by removing all the boot carpets and giving them and the interior ones a good going over. They were absolutely filthy and look much better now. Need to sort out the centre belt which locks and won't unlock unless the lower mounting is released. There is ample evidence to suggest that I am not the first that this has happened to so I shall have to strip down the back seat to clean the reel up.

Just washed mine today although last week the car had the rear bumper fixed! Yay.

Just admired how it sits up a bit higher at the rear now rather than formerly dragging its ****[emoji1303]

Been underneath mine most of the day to find a whine from the engine bay!! Turned out to be AC Compressor, luckily i had a spare in the garage(as you do) bit of a job as the ac pipes were jammed solid, so had to get most of it out in 1 piece.

Strangely enough having posted before you yesterday my wife drove the E Class today and noticed a new whine from under the bonnet. Sounds like mine might be going south too.

I'd got it down to AC Compressor, water pump or Alternator!! Would always be the most expensive to swap wouldn't it?? I'm lucky as I'd had a spare from another Vito I'd stripped for a retro fit I'm doing!!

Mines only done 70k so hoping it may be the water pump, but sounds too whiney[emoji3]

Mine sounded like a radio from back in the day without a suppressor fitted, so the whining increased with revs
