What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Had a regas at Kwik Fit, went OK checking my records it was last done six years ago! Resprayed the tow hook cover in the back bumper so it matches the car.

Replaced rear pads and brake fluid.

Solved the World deforestation mystery. Having done the back brakes, I started on the front ones. They'll be easier, won't they? No, they won't. I ended up having to hammer on my 18mm Snap-on which irks me a lot. I got the caliper off, then the disk with a lot of thumping only to find that the hub face was in pretty ugly condition so it was out with ther cordless and a sanding drum to make it all spick and span. Once the caliper was back on, I pulled the inner wing liner and found that the planet's leaves, twigs et al were up the two drains.I think that will make a big difference to the car, one of those things that make it yours. I have another disc and pads to do tomorrow and a new rear box to hang then the car will be nearly finished mechanically. Just the heater to sort out. I was lucky enough to buy a complete unit for £30 so I have flap actuators and stepper motors galore so that will be all the systems working. I shall put the Ipod interface in while I'm at it and consider removing the cd changer which I cannot see me ever using.

Fitted the final disc and pads then the new back box. Hmm. Thought it was a bit noisy. Took it for a run to settle the brakes which are not yet good but will be. Suspicion of a sticky caliper after pushing it back. Time will tell.
Never get too involved with a car. Once you start spending time and money on it they get a taste for it! Looking underneath I can see a wet steering rack gaiter and I know what that means. Anybody changed one? I have seen the video for W211 and it looks fairly straightforward (compared to sundry Saabs and Citroens of my acquaintance.) Does anybody here know if the W203 is similar please?

Ordered plus gas to soak the hydraulic pipe connections in before changing the flexibles.

Ordered yet more parts from Mercedes

Fitted a new jacking pad to the front crossmember and sprayed the brake unions with Plus Gas. Ordered new wiper blades and took delivery of balljoint splitters. Painted three traces in the rear glass with slerp and a dozen on a friend's BMW. Connected Star for the first time to find that the Mux connected first time. Plenty of time to play with it but noticed it had a facility for recognising tuned ECUs(!)
Found the position of the ambient light sensor for the dashboard LCD. Now I need to find out if it is a photodiode (in which case it will have lost quite a bit of sensitivity through ageing, easy enough to test and replace) or a CdS cell which can be cheated with a resistor. Either way, it will be adjustable so the display can be brightened.

Looked at it and prayed for rain. Its hacky black.

Ed Of Divine Detail is giving the CL it's annual check up + he is also going to coat the Glass on the New Smart Brabus :D

Discovered that a PCMCIA adapter + SD card = MP3 music in the W221. Time to rock 'n roll.

oooh crap...

cahnged oils of my W219 and only after then it came my mind I should check the chain stretch... holy tensionser, lubrication hole almost totaaly visible in tensioner shaft! It was ok half year ago when I bought the car, 15000 has made bad things, or then I have been unlucky and every time I checked tensioner it was little bit retracted position...

Well I knew this day will come but i came sooner than I believed. Looking for 500-700€ cost...

Ran DAS. DPF Ash content 37%. Footwell actuator jammed. Everything else ok. Remaining brake hoses arrived together with the necessary spanners so that will be tomorrow's job in the morning. Rear ones first - carefully!
