What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Finally found time to wash the W204 after two weeks - it was absolutely minging!!!!. Then took the still dirty Insignia to Tesco for the dreaded Christmas shop - it was a nightmare - and we have the mother-in-law here as well. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas !!!
I should just keep a very low profile from now on. Things to do in the man cave, like sorting your tools for another year, bleed the radiators, go down to B&Q (the pub) for a radiator key, defer bleeding the radiators until another day, check the loft for bats (nice quiet place for a drink), tell your M-i-L not to over-cook the sprouts and text you when dinner is on the table.

Had to order new compressor, (old one scrap ) and I don’t want to change glow plugs without giving round the base of them a good blast out so I get no crap in when I lift the glow plugs out.

Woke it up and took it for a spin, then bought it home and locked it away again, not sure whether I can fully buy into this “putting them away for winter malarkey” haha! But I’m trying.....

After my car got the new rubber yesterday I had it washed. I'm going to hoover it today. Then fit the little sticky magnetic pad in the case for my new phone ready for the trip to Dorset.

It's great having a bit of time off. Since September I've been flat out in my new job and everything else has been getting a bit neglected. Both cars are now fettled. I'm not going to have a blowout on the motorway (well not at the rear, anyway), I've jetwashed tons of crap off the rear patio and finally managed to unblock the ACRA drain round the back of the house.

The final Christmas presents arrived earlier today & I'm about to wrap the last one for my wife - only my daughters' to go.

Happy days.

Carefully dismantled my (only) key to give the sensors a clean. Well I say dismantled, broke it into tiny pieces with a pair of pliers, and then put the pcb into a new shell. This is the first step of trying to solve an occasional fault whereby the engine cuts out without any intervention from the driver. My 'man' suspects either the key (it was perfectly clean inside) or the EIS, I'm doing the cheap stuff first...

I put some tyre dressing on and am now itching to give the wheels a polish. But my wife doesn't share that particular version of OCD. Tricky.....

Hard wired my dash cam, thanks to help from the forum.
Had a look at taking the rear door apart, but wimped out until a warmer day!

Fitted a Nextbase 9" Rear DVD player on the back of the passenger seat of the E63 for the Grandkids amusement.
Got a pair of wireless headphones as well and all is working well.
Downloaded a few films to a USB stick which can also be used as well as a memory card for streaming.

I'll take some photos after Christmas. Well worth the £59 99 for the player and £14 99 for the wireless headphones.

Fitted another brand new Pilot 4S after the last one picked up a screw and bulged the sidewall with under 1000 miles on the clock

Having not used it since it was detailed more then a week ago, our black car was too clean, so today we went to Aberystwyth for fish & chips, a round trip of 270 miles, taking 8h 15m driving time. We were there for an hour!

We took the Mountains to Coast route (Ultimate Drives) from Rhayader to Aberystwyth which was beautiful even on a wet and filthy winters day. I was keen to get back in the road quickly whilst it was still light, so we could take the Elan Valley route back to Rhayader, passing the dams and reservoirs, but the very narrow lanes, rally driving locals and rapid onset of complete and absolute darkness meant that we actually aborted at the start line.

A long way to go for fish & chips, but we do have form in this regard. What was perhaps a little daft was choosing to drive a journey lasting more than 8 hours on a day with 8 hours of sunlight.

When we got back home the car was absolutely filthy, wearing 8h 15m worth of finest Welsh mud, grime and filth, but a quick jetwash (no products, just water) had it looking close to clean again thanks to the ceramic coating.

So, where to go tomorrow...

Well, I didn't do it myself, as I don't have a suitable drive or ramp, or frankly even the time right now, but the old girl has been treated to new discs and pads all round, rear tyres, a crankshaft position sensor, welded an alloy, new brake hoses and a bit of a clean.

Then she got to stretch her legs with the traction control turned off....... she has lovely legs...........:)

Wow, must be some fantastic, fish & chips!! :D

I've been covering it in Wiltshire's finest mud, inside and out.

Took it out for a drive for the first time in over two weeks! It has rained almost everyday since the car was last used so the sight of rusty discs was starting to upset me  All nice and bright now after a few hard applications of the brakes and my wife even commented that I seem in a better mood

I drove it to a relatively empty multi-storey car park for the sole purpose of finding an empty floor and then doing full throttle acceleration runs, last moment max braking, and a few 180s and donuts.

Had a great time. Obviously I couldn’t stay too long in case it attracted the wrong type of attention.

You, Hooligan. :D

Finally figured out how to set the dash to how I want it, with the information I need showing. It did take a trip to the big new flashy dealership at Stockport to get it done, but well worth it.

The digital display in the S Class is very similar to the one I had in my previous W213 E63s but with a few subtle differences to the operation. It was these differences which threw me, in particular the absence of physical switches on the steering wheel and the addition of touch-pads. I hate these things and struggle with them at the best of times but to have two of them on the steering wheel of a moving car demands too much of my concentration so they seldom get used. Anyway, the receptionist listened to my tale of woe and, after suggesting I had a wander around the showroom, told me she would get someone to assist me in due course.

After a few minutes I was approached by a young gentleman who turned out to be an apprentice with MB Stockport. He followed me to the car and within a few seconds had the dash exactly how I wanted it. The left hand side display was fine, it was the right hand side I couldn't get to adjust but he has now shown me exactly what to do with it so I'm now able to alter things at will.

Now if they'll just put the cruise control switch back to the steering column where it's always been, instead of adding more stuff to the wheel, I'll be totally happy.
