What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Put my Ctek MX-5 battery conditioner to work today for the first time since I bought it.
Haven't used the E63 for a few days and yesterday was -3c and the Eco ligt took ages to even appear for me to turn off. Usually a sign voltage is low.

Started by checking the aux and main battery with a multi meter and the aux was reading 13v engine off and the main battery 12.3v.
I spent about 20 minutes attaching the comfort lead to the + and - terminals of the main battery for future charging, then starting it on an AGM setting recharge.

Checked 5 hrs later and the whole set of lights were displayed indicating a fully charged main battery. I took a note of the battery Part# as this being a Sept 2014 model, its probably on its original battery so could be due a new one at some point soon.

There probably is a reason why Varta Bosch and Exide to name 3 brands only give a 3 years warranty on any new AGM battery:(

Had a dint removed from my boot lid

Having not used it since it was detailed more then a week ago, our black car was too clean, so today we went to Aberystwyth for fish & chips, a round trip of 270 miles, taking 8h 15m driving time. We were there for an hour!

We took the Mountains to Coast route (Ultimate Drives) from Rhayader to Aberystwyth which was beautiful even on a wet and filthy winters day. I was keen to get back in the road quickly whilst it was still light, so we could take the Elan Valley route back to Rhayader, passing the dams and reservoirs, but the very narrow lanes, rally driving locals and rapid onset of complete and absolute darkness meant that we actually aborted at the start line.

A long way to go for fish & chips, but we do have form in this regard. What was perhaps a little daft was choosing to drive a journey lasting more than 8 hours on a day with 8 hours of sunlight.

When we got back home the car was absolutely filthy, wearing 8h 15m worth of finest Welsh mud, grime and filth, but a quick jetwash (no products, just water) had it looking close to clean again thanks to the ceramic coating.

So, where to go tomorrow...
Today we had a drive to Barmouth (on the coast in mid-Wales) for fish & chips. Round trip was 215 miles, 5h 15m and manages 19.4 MPG.

Last year my daughter went to Barmouth on a school trip, and had some “very good” fish & chips and ice cream, so that’s we set off to.

Just after we set off I asked her to check that the shop be open, but it seems that the shop doesn’t update their seasonal opening hours!

Almost every shop in Barmouth was closed, but one fish & chip shop was open, and were dog friendly, thank goodness!

There’s a Euro Garages Starbucks just outside Barmouth which was open so grabbed a coffee and headed home again.

Barnouth isn’t the greatest out of season but it was nice to see the sea, but the roads and scenery were exceptional and worth the drive.

And why the hell not. :)

Wheels off the old W211 E220, cleaned inside and out.
Checked tyres, all suspension joints and bushes, cleaned and waxed brake pipes (removed inner arch covers) on all 4 corners.
All lights etc. checked along with wipers, washers horn etc.

Dropped off for MOT, passed no advisories, not too bad the old bus. ^

Full service including Gearbox oil & new discs pads & shoes on the rear..

Managed to get it fail it's MOT because of stupid mirror indicator. Everything else perfect without advisories :wallbash:
New unit on order and hopefully tomorrow will be sorted. Gutted.

New mirror indicator cover (Genuine MB colour coded mirror cover) installed and passed MOT with flying colours with no advisories.
Learning point: Faulty mirror indicators don't trigger the error message on dashboard and the blinking speed remains normal even when the LED indicator is faulty.

Just ordered a full set of Glow Plugs ready to be done!! As I have No2 plug not working thought I might as well get the full set done..

Got my W212 SLA and IHC coded (with great help of local forum member, thanks Mauh)

As the SLK was booked in at 1.30pm for an MOT at the MB dealers in Swansea I went out early this morning to pump up the tyres as have not done it recently as it's always raining or blowing a gale.
Disaster!, took a close look at the rears and checked the tread depth ( by hand ) on the tyres and realised that they were at best marginal in terms of being legal.
No one in Carmarthen had tyres that would fit ( or I would want to fit ). Anyway rang Harris Tyres Swansea,
( discovered they are a branch of Micheldever Tyres who I used many years ago and was impressed ).
At just over £150 for a ContiSport5 (fitted ) discovered they actually had 2 in stock so £300 lighter I just got to my MOT in time. Passed with no advisories after they reset the tyre pressure warning system which the tyre depot had screwed up by leaving the new rears at 42 lbs sq inch instead of 32.
