What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

A new 12 month ticket for the E class , we’ll sort of .
Got 6 advisories
One for each wheel well brake pipe that says “brake pipe corroded , covered in grease or other material “ . I very much doubt they are corroded because they are always treated twice a year . I guess I’ll have to clean them for the next MOT ?
2 advisories for both rear lower suspension arms “corroded but not seriously weakened” . Fair enough I’ll clean them up in the summer .

Got new plates made up for Missy2, just got to sort out new surrounds and get some extra sticky tape to fix them as the existing surrounds have screws

Went to check my thermostat temp with the icarsoft after a run , although the dash gauge sits where the picture shows (+80) and doesn’t move the icarsoft showed an initial coolant temp of low 70’s moving up eventually to 85/86 which took an age .
So new thermostat time I believe.
Im lucky my car doesn’t have an electrical connection on the thermostat , so with a bit of cross checking against the MB part number and the fact it’s a Wahler stat I’ve sourced one from Autodoc for £34 .

Planned to put the new plates on Missy2, but cant undo the screws to get the old plates off 🤬

Took front plate off and the holder underneath is held on with just 1 screw, is it meant to be like this?

Mine had two screws, at the top corners, but I'm not saying that's wrong,
if it feels secure should be ok, it's been ok all this time. :) 👍

When the number plate is fitted do the two screws help to secure that plate?

There are tabs/prongs on the back of the holder which insert into holes in the bumper on mine , undo the screw and pull the holder forward (just make sure none of the holes have screws hidden in them )

Drove one to McDonalds drive thru to pick up breakfast with my daughter. Food was poor, drive was great.

Changed the fuel injectors on the E55, took my time and hoovers around surge tanks before and after. Interesting to look down at the valves which looked in really good shape. Things were going really well until I attempted to replace the map sensor as a whilst I was in there sort of thing, dropped the the quarter inch swivel whist trying to remove one of the bolts, jacked the old girl up to remove under trays, noticed a big oil leak coming from dipstick grommet that I had repositioned to give better access to nightmare map bolt. Anyway I cut my losses and gave up on the map part of the job, bolted dipstick bracket back sharpish which seams to have sorted leak (monitoring that little gem). Buttoned everything back up, new gaskets etc etc and fired her up, all good, but a bit of a mission in the end.

It always seems to be the little extra thing which causes me a problem too. Sure it will be running sweetly with the new injectors though.

I changed the boot seal on the CLK and managed not to lose any trim clips apart from one that was already AWOL but I had some spares.

Yeah she ran spot on. I thought the map sensor wouldn’t be any more difficult than the cps, how wrong can you be, fingers crossed it never goes wrong, it’ll be farming that job out if it does, the pros must have fabricated some tool to make life easier, and I wouldn’t want to disturb that dipstick grommet again, once bitten and all that.
